Alice Walker

Pulitzer-Prize winning author, poet and activist Alice Walker has come out in support of the works of David Icke.

It happened while she was on the air on BBC radio where she was asked which book she would take with her if stranded on an island. She cited Icke’s “Human Race, Get Off your Knees” …and of course the mainstream media have started going apeshit over this. Big surprise. This is a bit of a big deal and let me explain why.

Walker’s book “The Color Purple” which was directed by no less than the king of Hollywood, Steven Spielberg and won Whoopi Goldberg an Oscar, put Walker on the mainstream radar screen. However, for decades prior to the film and book, Walker had been (and continues to be) a vocal civil rights activist.

One of her professors back at Spellman College, was anarchist historian Howard Zinn and it was precisely because of Zinn’s advice Walker returned to the South to become more involved in the civil rights movement in the 1960s. She met Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. She met Malcolm X (in fact in a post on her website she compared Icke to Malcolm X and mused what a fascinating meeting it would be if the two had ever met. That would have been indeed awesome.)

For someone *that* prominent and with that kind of a public profile to come out in support of a researcher who is as maligned and marginalised as Icke, is indeed noteworthy and a sign of the changing times. I mean let’s face it, David has turned out to be correct on the whole English-establishment paedophile scandal which he had been talking about for over 20 years and now because of the Jimmy Savile situation, has rocked the British Establishment to its core and continues to do so. He was dismissed a loon but the whole Savile-gate thing has forced people to examine his work with  a new perspective.

 People love to diss Icke all the time. They jump on him about “that reptilian thing” or the fact that they think he’s anti-semitic, without ever taking the time out to either read his books of watch his videos in full.

The “anti-Semitism” is actually about a very particular group of Zionists, which Icke calls the Rothschilds Zionists and has nothing to do with normal Jews at all. In fact, Icke posits that most Jews are getting shafted as well by these power-hungry ruthless types. “That reptilian thing” pre-dates Icke by thousands of years, he’s just the first one to bring it into mainstream attention. I’ve posted that the essence of demons in Christian cosmology is indeed reptilian but now I’ve discovered another interesting tidbit.

In the case of an asshole like Dick Cheney, I can believe it…

The mystical English poet and engraver William Blake was an influential visionary. Considered one of the best poets in the English language (a 2002 BBC poll placed him at number 38 for the Top 100 Britons of All Time), Blake was an early champion of feminism (being friends with the likes of Mary Wollstonecraft) an anti-monarchist (he fully supported the French and American revolutions), to just call Blake a poet does no justice to the body of his work. He had inspired generations after him  including the likes of Allen Ginsberg, Bob Dylan and Jim Morrison.

What caught my attention was the fact that he had the “second sight” and saw the unseen from a very early age.

From a young age, William Blake claimed to have seen visions. The first may have occurred as early as the age of four when, according to one anecdote, the young artist “saw God” when God “put his head to the window”, causing Blake to break into screaming. At the age of eight or ten in Peckham Rye, London, Blake claimed to have seen “a tree filled with angels, bright angelic wings bespangling every bough like stars.” According to Blake’s Victorian biographer Gilchrist, he returned home and reported the vision and only escaped being thrashed by his father for telling a lie through the intervention of his mother. Though all evidence suggests that his parents were largely supportive, his mother seems to have been especially so, and several of Blake’s early drawings and poems decorated the walls of her chamber. On another occasion, Blake watched haymakers at work, and thought he saw angelic figures walking among them.

Blake claimed to experience visions throughout his life. They were often associated with beautiful religious themes and imagery, and may have inspired him further with spiritual works and pursuits. Certainly, religious concepts and imagery figure centrally in Blake’s works. God and Christianity constituted the intellectual centre of his writings, from which he drew inspiration. Blake believed he was personally instructed and encouraged by Archangels to create his artistic works, which he claimed were actively read and enjoyed by the same Archangels

Anyone with even a basic understanding of symbolism can take one look at his work and see that Blake was, in all likelihood, inspired from something beyond this earth…

in 1790, “Blake, for the only time in his life, saw a ghost… Standing one evening at his garden-door in Lambeth, and chancing to look up, he saw a horrible grim figure, ‘scaly, speckled, very awful,’ stalking downstairs towards him. More frightened than ever before or after, he took to his heels, and ran out of the house.”…Blake often said that he was joined by invisible sitters as he drew them, including, he claimed, a number of angels, Voltaire, Moses and the Flea, who told him that “fleas were inhabited by the souls of such men as were by nature blood thirsty to excess.”…Fleas are often associated with uncleanliness and degradation; in this work, the artist sought to magnify a flea into “a monstrous creature whose bloodthirsty instinct was imprinted on every detail of its appearance, with ‘burning eyes which long for moisture’, and a ‘face worthy of a murderer’.”…The muscular and nude Flea is depicted using its jutting tongue to gorge on a bowl of blood. Part human, part vampire and part reptile, the beast strides from right to left between heavy and richly patterned curtains. I remember while in Turkey, taking a long weekend off of work to journey to Konya to watch the Whirling Dervishes, the mystical Islamic Sufi order established by Jalaluddin Rumi (or Mevlana as he is known by in Turkey), dance the Sema dance and to visit Rumi’s grave. I’m sure you’ve seen in either in ads or commercials or documentaries.

To outsiders who don’t know any better, it just looks like a group of men in long flowing white skirts and jackets, wearing fez hats, twirling around in circles. The Sema, in fact has a deeper symbolism. The circles they dance in represents the Circle of Life. Birth, death and rebirth. Fall, winter, spring and summer. The blood in our bodies being pumped out by the heart to only return back to the heart. The examples are infinite. It induces a trance-like state for the dancer which is supposed to help them meet with That, like ayahuasca might for some or peyote for others.

Mevlana was actually born in present-day Afghanistan, wrote all his poetry in the Persian language and is buried in present-day Turkey.

Back them, Rumi was not the spiritual superstar that New Agers and certain yoga instructors these days love to quote. In fact even 10 years ago, I’m sure if you even mentioned Rumi to those who were knee-deep in Deepak Chopra-speak or Wayne Dyer-speak, they wouldn’t even know who or what you were talking about. It’s interesting to watch because since the Rumi train seems to be slowing down now, I’ve noticed that the Deepak/Dyer crowd have now jumped on another mystical Islamic, Persian poet, namely Hafiz. (I’m betting after they get sick of or run out of the Persian poets, they’ll return to the Russians like Alexander Blok, and Pushkin and then heaven forbid, the old Europeans mystics like William Blake, W.B Yeats, Goethe, Meister Eckhart and Emanuel Swedenborg. It’s always about finding a “new” bottle for old wine.)

When western yoga instructors “discover” Emanuel Swedenborg, will that lead to a revival of interest in Christian mysticism? Your guess is as good as mine…

Truth be told, I find the sudden interest in Islamic mysticism by some Westerners and bubble-headed yoga instructors who are normally Conservative, Republican, right-wing and very anti-Arab or anti-Muslim, strange to put it mildly. True, the poetry of Rumi and Hafiz have inspired wonderment across centuries. If you have even the smallest spiritual inclination in you, you can’t help but be touched by their words. But before Rumi, it was the Khalil Gibran train. Before Gibran, it was Marianne Williamson and Neale Donald Walsch. It’s this constant hopping around because it’s a trend, without any real study or serious reflection on the works of these past masters and then passing it off as “This makes me look serious” which I take issue with.

if you want to be trendy with what you wear and what you eat, fine. But don’t expect anyone to take you seriously if you do it with your spirituality.

And this brings me back to Campbell’s quote above. I have to agree with Campbell 150% on this one. It is best to find someone whose words ring so deeply and so true for you that you will need to read up on all their works to process and internalize their ideas and sentiments properly. That’s when you start to “get” them properly. One spiritual master whose words have consistently resonated deeply with me, as I have posted many times here is Omraam Mikhael Aivanhov.

It was Neem Karoli Baba who gave him the name “Omraam” and it was Nityananda who explained that Aivanhov was an incarnation of Vedic sage from the Solar Age and in fact had come back to bring back the Solar teachings. Apparently he also met the legendary Babaji in the Himalayas as well but he refused to talk about it.

Like all seekers at the beginning of their road, I did my fair share of hopping as well. Not because a certain writer was the flavour of the month but because I was searching. I read George Gurdjieff, Rudolph Steiner, tried Jiddu Krishnamurti and Theosophy in earnest but none of it seemed to “stick” for lack of a better word. But with Aivanhov, it was like remembering a deeply treasured memory which had been forgotten and a flood of light breaking through a door. I’ve been reading Aivanhov since at least 1996 and have never looked back.

Like I posted recently, these days it’s also Alan Watts which is speaking to me (thank God for YouTube!). While I don’t see myself going to Japan to study Zen in all seriousness with a proper Zen master ( and I’m not even sure if the monasteries there even accept women!), Watts, like Aivanhov, was/is able to synthesize the Perennial teachings along with recent scientific findings and present it with their own flair and in such a way the modern reader/listener can connect instantly.

That is a rare talent and not one which New Age hucksters can ever master convincingly.

The Power of Touch and the Touch of Power

The recent news about hot yoga shyster Bikram Choudhury being accused of rape has been generating a lot of discussion online and off about the whole nature of power within the context of guru/student dynamics as well as male/female dynamics.

It got me thinking about the most primary of relationships which we all experience, that we have with the opposite sex (I don’t mean to exclude transgendered persons from this discussion, I’m just writing out of my own experience so apologies in advance if anyone may take offence). In my case, it’s not really about Dad, or brother or uncle or Grandpa. It’s mostly the kind when sexual dynamics and chemistry come into play.

 I’m writing this from the perspective of a heterosexual female, so bear with me a second for anyone who does not belong to that same group. Call me sensitive but there is a major difference in the way a man touches you which, if you’re alert can tell you almost everything you need to know about him and what he wants out of you, what he really feels about you, what he really thinks about you. It’s hard to describe but a whole host of elements come into play when a man touches you, how quickly he tries to touch you and where, how much pressure he exerts when he does touch you, how lightly, how fervently, how calmly, how warmly, how suddenly, how hard or how soft. Maybe I’m some kind of freak but I’ve been able to read exactly what was going on just by the way a guy touched me. It doesn’t even have to be in a romantic context like in a kiss or embrace. It could be even in a handshake or the way he hands me half his sandwich.

Sometimes less is a lot more…

 I remember meeting with someone, we had not seen each other in a few years and we went out for dinner a few times to catch up, the chemistry was still there but long story short, it was an impossible situation. I remember saying goodbye to him and he suddenly grabbed my shoulder. It was too abrupt, too sudden and he was digging into my skin too hard. I did not detect any softness, any patience in that touch. I wiggled myself out of his grip but then I realized all too clearly that I was nothing but a diversion for him. I also picked up almost instantaneously that if we were to become lovers, he would be a very selfish one. That’s when I lost all interest and realized it was a dead-end. I have since heard that he has gotten married and he cheats on his wife regularly now. Not surprised.

I remember another time when someone else lightly kissed my forehead. In that second, I could have been knocked over by a feather. It wasn’t just chemistry but there was a gentle sincerity and respect there which in itself is insanely attractive. Things didn’t work out, we were and are too different and have different dreams but I have nothing but good things to say about him, he’s a really good guy and I’m sure he’ll make the right girl very, very happy one day.

Now in the context of yoga, some of the yoga asanas can be sexual.

A good instructor’s touch is hardly felt, they’ll usually always ask for permission to adjust you properly, they respect your boundaries and in this case your boundaries involve your own body. A bad instructor will not respect your boundaries and in the case of the more lecherous instructors I’ve observed, will be all over girls while “adjusting”. All it takes is a few classes and you’ll pick up what’s going on if you’re alert.

 Now, I don’t want to make the victims of shady gurus and shady yoga instructors out to be in the wrong, and say that they should have known better and walked away earlier and bypassed the abuse. That’s like saying that women who are victims of domestic violence should have known better before getting involved with such-and-such jerk. But the promises of romantic love and fulfillment can often be as alluring as the promises of spiritual gifts and abilities and in that respect, they may not be all that different from each other.

Some gurus promise initiation or revelations of spiritual secrets and abilities if “you just listen to everything I say and do as I say.” For someone who doesn’t know any better, the glamour of spiritual specialness or of attaining what Alan Watts called “psychic technologies” (i.e bilocation, telekinesis, Enlightenment, levitation, mind-reading etc.) is too irresistable an offer to pass up.

Real spiritual initiation usually involves handing down teachings after years of study or being a student. It should NOT make you feel uncomfortable, or cornered.

Likewise some potential romantic partners may allure you with dreams of butterflies in your stomach, a  few sessions of hot, sweaty, toe-curling sex, maybe even happily ever after just as long as you follow what I call “The Script”. The Script can change from year to year, maybe it might mean sex on the first date but no later than the third. It might mean observing the highly changeable rites of courtship and following the ground rules which society at large has decided on. It might mean following the advice as featured in this month’s issue of Cosmopolitan or Details magazine.

I hate this magazine.

Both prey on the fears and on what’s lacking in one’s life and that if this one thing is not lacking anymore, we will be happy. I personally think it’s even more basic than that, it’s really about Power. That by attaining these things, we become more powerful and in control and here I have to agree with Watts completely, that power in that sense is really not something you want, especially the kind of power which involves controlling other people. When we can control other people, we basically want them to be like wooden dolls in a scenario or dream of our choosing. What makes life interesting is that wildcard factor, when we let go of that control and let things happen as they may. When people talk back to us, when last-minute changes happen.

Being in power over ourselves is OK.

Being in power over others is not.

A Real Spiritual Warrior has taken his fight to the next level

It is with deep, deep sadness that I just found out that spiritual teacher, writer, shaman and all around bon vivante Stuart Wilde has crossed over to continue his fight against the ghouls in the Aluna World as he called it.

I check his website everyday so I couldn’t understand why nothing had been updated since May 1st and its only after I checked out Zen Haven’s site that I found out that Stuie suffered a massive heart attack on May 1st during a scenic drive in his beloved Ireland and has left this side of the realm and has taken his fight against the Dark Side to the next level.

I’ve always heard that the good go first and this regretfully proves it. I know Stuart read my blog sometimes and I often got a lot of my ideas from reading his. His contribution, his words, his encouragement to those just starting on their spiritual journey were incalculable. I will miss him and his gentle humor greatly. I think he will be one of the fiercest warriors on the other side. If he can fight there, then we can all hold our end of the deal and fight here.

Two years ago with these words my life began and so did my love affair with Stuart Wilde. I’ve lived on the fringes as far as memory serves me, I travelled far and wide and often on a road less travelled, lived in different countries, fit in nowhere, stranger among my own family and friends, tormented by fear and alienation and emptiness.

I struggled, rebelled and was desperate to find meaning to all this, my own alienation and the cruelty in the world around me. I read the works of countless new age gurus, religions and was often disgusted by their spiritual elitism and night after night of praying to the ‘deaf gods’ I finally stumbled upon the teachings of Stuart Wilde.

Every day first thing in the morning as a humble disciple I was on stuartwilde.com; hungry for his wisdom, his teachings, his humor and his insights. Even if you are “thick as two planks”, his style of teaching will smack you in the head and make you realize that you possess far more power than you ever realized, the silent power.

“Happiness is relative. The further you get away from your relatives, the happier you are!”

He taught me observation is power and judgment is weakness. He taught me to laugh at myself and be proud of being dysfunctional and liberate from negative thoughts emotions and the daily grind. He taught me there’s light and dark in everyone and that free will is dangerous.

“Learn to trust feelings as they come from inner knowledge.” Finally I realized that even though I was born on the wrong planet, I was lucky to have found a true mentor and guide.

“Refuse to be scared in this life time”

His humor uplifted me on my darkest days.

“Imagine you’re on a plane that’s going to crash, What’s the worst thing that can happen? If you’re in economy, you’ll instantly be upgraded to first class, then you’ll die… Goood! Now you’re liberated”

I was especially touched by his genuine love for his readers, his free gifts to his faithful A-List members, like the St. John Worts seeds, prayer cards, horse stickers, prayers and recordings.

His untimely death has left a massive void, I regret that I never met  Mr Wilde or had the privilege to shake his hands and to tell him how much his teachings and writings saved and helped me. I’m comforted that he will always be around through his timeless teachings.

Although we never met, your energy and spirit have been a constant part of my spiritual path for many years, and will continue to do so regardless of whatever realm you may reside in.  Back when I was struggling to understand my place in this world, your light showed me that it’s OK to be a fringe dweller; and that we don’t always get to know the answers we seek.

They say that when the student is ready the master will appear, and that is just how you came into my life with such observations as, “If you cannot say it in 25 words or less, it’s not the God Force.“  Although I gained great knowledge from the various books I encountered before yours, You were the first one to show me how to incorporate that wisdom in my everyday life…the way of the shaman.

Each time my spiritual progress brought me to unexplored territory; there you were showing me the lay of the land, and the way of things from that point on.  You were my trail blazer, my deep recon warrior scout.  Because you knew the way, having been there ahead of me; I knew I would be OK out there on the fringes, just so long as I could see and feel your light.

At one time I think I had the complete set of your little wisdom pocket books, Infinite Self, Silent Power, Miracles, and all the others: but they each traveled onward with other fringe dwellers seeking their way; it’s what I think you intended for them…not to be mute wisdom collecting dust up on some shelf.  You taught me that what other people think of me is none of my business, and that the universe doesn’t count how many times we fall down…only the times we rise up and have another go at it.  From you I learned my true power, and how to deal with psychic attacks from the dark brothers in dark robes.  Warrior, path finder, light house, teacher and healer; you journeyed around the wheel of life, always in service to others.

They say that nobody ever really dies so long as they live on in the memories of those they touched.  But you see Stu, I don’t consider you as having died, it’s too soon, the grief too much to bear at times, so I’m telling myself you just went on ahead to scout the undiscovered country for me, and I know that no matter how dark the coming days may be, your light will never fade from my heart, and never fail to guide me on my way home.

An experiment in Earth Healing

Like I posted in one of my very first blog-posts  Iceland is indeed proving itself to be a high-frequency consciousness country over and over again. This is a country that had the foresight to jail their bankers who created the financial meltdown of 2008, then forgave every one of their debt. The result that they are now one of the most financially robust economies in the world. More recently, Iceland has decided to push legislation against internet pornography because of the damaging effects it has on women in the industry as well as the scarring if little-understood effects it has on children who are exposed to this material before they are ready to handle it.

Then I watched the recent interview with   Birgitta Jónsdóttir on “Democracy Now!” linked above and I thought to myself “*THIS* is the kind of politician we need everywhere folks. Now.”

Can you ever imagine you local politician ever writing something like her poem and then reading it out loud in front of a political prisoner’s jail? None around my neck of the woods, that’s for sure…One of the things I’ve always admired about the Nordic and Scandinavian countries is this very pragmatic outlook they have on things. They don’t give a rat’s ass about politics or stepping on some billionaire or politician’s toes but rather ask “Does this work?” and if it does, employ it and get rid of whatever doesn’t.

Did you know that Iceland grow their own bananas in their greenhouses because it’s cheaper to do so than to import them from overseas? Also the fact that the island is volcanic and geothermally active ensures they have all the cheap heat they need. (Do you see any agro-business or oil companies having a fit now?)

 A few weeks ago Waking Times posted a very interesting article on “How We Create Reality”. Normally, I have a hard time digesting magical thinking and can’t tolerate stuff like “The Secret” or books like those by Og Mandino.

No. Just no.

However this article was a little different in that it addressed how to actually negate poor self-image and also the fact that what other people think of us does end up affecting us, which is why it’s important to drop those frenemies and surround yourself with people who really do have your best interests at heart, an important point which many of these New Age pot boilers fail to mention.

I then thought about  Birgitta’s  poem and what effect , if any, there could be if indeed many people, instead of focusing on complicated systems and complicated daydream scenarios or visions lasting 20 minutes, instead repeatedly focused on one simple image, like the article suggests.

Would it really change anything?

So Shifters, here’s a simple experiment for you, should you want to join in (if you don’t, that’s cool too).

Here’s an innocent image below, all it is a vision of a Tibetan Mandala. Specifically, the Mandala of Auspicious Beginnings . In Mahayana Buddhism, the ideal is the Bodhisattva, one who has taken the vow to become a Buddha, an enlightened one. The maṇḍala, a symbol of the universe in Buddhist cultures, depicts the three great Bodhisattvas who represent the power, wisdom, and compassion of the Buddhas. This maṇḍala was  to invoke the blessings of the Bodhisattvas.
Don’t think about how-tos, wherefores, whys or what-ifs  or any of the rest. Just commit the image to memory and remember it as vividly as you can and remember it several times a day, even for a second or two.  Share it with as many people as you want.

It’s just an experiment, let’s just see where this goes, shall we ?

The past few days have been very interesting to observe. Not sure if some of you heard about this, but it would seem a huge cachet of documents have been leaked by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists involving high level personages and secret bank accounts and off-shore accounts of some of the worlds movers and shakers.

What’s interesting is that:
A) the information is coming out now à la Truth Vibrations and
B) it’s really been exposing the magnitude and secret relationships in the international financial and banking cartels and how far these uber-wealthy types will go to hide their fortunes and the legal loopholes they use.

The British Virgin Islands is a tax haven hot-spot.

They make the Nazis who hid their gold in Swiss bank accounts look like troglodytes with respect to the sophistication they now employ. I first heard of the story as a quick news tidbit on CBC radio last week and then the conspiracy websites started picking up the story. Not a single headline in the mainstream media anywhere so of course the usual media black-out is happening. The usual reaction: protect the elites, don’t mention names, pretend nothing happened blah, blah, blah.

It’s also been interesting to observe the media reaction to Margaret Thatcher’s death and the complete disconnect between what the media has been offering (i.e right-wing pundits glorifying what an amazing woman she was) and the real reaction on the streets of the United Kingdom (i.e flat out jubilation).

Personally, she rankled my own anarchist and leftist nerves, just like Ronald Reagan and Brian Mulroney from that decade of greed known as the 1980′s. She put 3 million people out of work, labelled Nelson Mandela as a terrorist (She’s in good company. Dick Cheney did the same thing), and had no problem gallivanting with the likes of General Pinochet of Chile and looking the other way while he killed thousands in Chile.

What I also find interesting is that Reagan and Thatcher both ended up suffering from severe dementia and/or Alzheimer’s and from what I heard, Mulroney has hit the bottle again…hard.

Meanwhile, you have guys like Fidel Castro, Noam Chomsky and Nelson Mandela still mentally sharp as ever, even at their advanced age…

Mandela and Castro are old friends. While most of the Western world supported the  apartheid years in South Africa, Cuba was one of the very few countries who didn’t.

Politics aside, just thinking out loud but maybe having some concern for a fellow human being might actually have a direct effect on mental and spiritual health? The Greek island of Icaria was once a communist drop-off point, where anarchists, socialists and other leftists were sent off to rot in isolation. The result? Today, Icaria is considered one of the world’s five “Blue Zones” – places where the population regularly lives to an advanced age (one in three make it to their 90s).

I really do think greed, selfishness and that so-called “competitive edge” drive to win somehow has a way of shriveling the heart, in contracts blood vessels into the heart and thus, the brain. On the other hand, have you noticed that when you’re being cooperative, giving and selfless, it somehow leads to joy? It expands the heart and dilates your entire being.

I’ve never understood people who are insanely wealthy and powerful who always wanted more. Even while they claim to give generously to charities, I don’t think you can really selectively be a shark-like son-of-a-bitch in your working life and then be some philanthropist during “selective” other moments of your life. It’s a way of being. You’re really one way naturally or the other. Or not.

Even if you have enough to insure that 7 generations after you will be millionaires and never have to worry for anything, when is enough, enough? This insatiability leads me to believe that economic and financial security isn’t really the issue here at all. It’s deeper than that. It’s a sort of sickness. Mentally, something is off. It’s based on fear. It’s not a fear of poverty either. I think it’s a fear of not sticking out anymore, of not being seen, of not being admired by others, of not mattering anymore.

Barbara Amiel – Conrad Black’s wife. She famously quipped to Vogue magazine that she had “an extravagance which knows no bounds”. Read any of her columns and you’ll quickly detect what an ugly person she really is.

I can’t think of a sadder way to live, to have such an insecurity constantly with you. We were never supposed to be defined by what we own and have accumulated. We are supposed to be defined by our actions, what we give and put out there and our experiences. In this respect, I sometimes think some animals are more “human” than humans.

If these examples of animals and cross-species friendships are anything to go by, things are changing in the animal world. That means things can and are going to change in the human world.

50 Ways to Starve the Beast

This is a fantastic article from The Organic Prepper which literally anyone can put into use ASAP. While I don’t see myself raising chickens (#42) anytime soon or growing my own tobacco (#43), there are some really great ideas here for anyone who seriously wants to live a more sustainable and less materialistic life.

A term coined in 1985 by an unnamed staffer of the Reagan administration was “Starve the Beast”.  This referred to a fiscally conservative political strategy to cut government spending by paying less in taxes.  So, in the original sense, “the Beast” was the government, and people were to starve the beast by spending less and using loopholes, therefore paying less in taxes.

These days the Beast has a lot more tentacles than just the government.  The system now consists of the government and all aspects of Big Business.  Big Agro, Big Pharma, Big Medicine, Big Food, Big Banking and Big Oil, to name a few.  It seems that now it’s the Beast doing the starving, as small businesses close because they can’t compete with Wal-Mart, the family farm is on it’s way out because it can’t compete with the huge, subsidized Monsanto mega-farms, people are going bankrupt because they can’t pay the outrageous medical bills…

Perhaps it’s time for another financial revolution – one where people group together and use the power of the boycott to starve all the arms of this Beast that would swallow us whole.  If we vote with our dollars, eventually there will, of a necessity, be a paradigm shift that returns us to simpler days, when families that were willing to work hard could make a living without selling their souls to the corporate monoliths.

Every penny you spend with small local businesses is a penny that the big box stores won’t have.  Everything that you buy secondhand or barter for is an item on which you won’t pay sales tax.  Disassociate yourself completely with “the system” that is making Western civilization broke, overweight and unhealthy.  Starve the Beast by taking as many of these steps as possible…

1. Grow your own food (this starves Big Agro and Big Pharma both)

2. Shop at local businesses with no corporate ties

3. Use natural remedies instead of pharmaceuticals whenever possible

Chamomile Tea does wonders for a whole host of ills.

4. Homeshool your children

5. Walk or bike instead of driving when possible

6. Get care from naturopaths and healers instead of doctors

7. Make paper logs from scraps for free heat if you have a wood-burning fireplace or stove

8. Boycott all processed foods

9. Shop at local farmer’s markets

10. Boycott corporate stores: Wal-Mart, Costco, Best Buy, Home Depot

11. Give vouchers as gifts for an evening of babysitting, a homemade meal, walking the dog, doing a repair, or cleaning

12. Join a CSA or farm co-op

13. Ditch television (and all the propaganda and commercials)

14. Participate in the barter system – if no money changes hands, no tax can be added

15. Buy secondhand from yard sales, Craigslist and thrift stores

16. Sell your unwanted goods by having a yard sale or putting an ad on Craigslist

17. Repair things instead of replacing them

18. Avoid fast food restaurants and chain restaurants

19. Dine at locally owned establishments if you eat out

20. Brew your own beer and wine

21. Read a book, purchased second-hand or borrowed

22. Grow or gather  medicinal herbs

23. Give homemade gifts

24. Attend free local activities: lectures, concerts, play days at the park, library events

Have any of you ever heard of the clichéd saying: “Treat them mean, keep them keen?

I only came across this very recently and I don’t know about you but this is the equivalent of an ideology for a bona-fide disaster and unfortunately I see way too many people falling for it, both guys and gals, of all orientations. Why? Because for whatever reason, it speaks to the part of some people’s psyche where they need constant approval from the person they’re interested in.

I’m sure you’ve all seen it:

1) The impossibly beautiful girl who can stop traffic with the bat of an eyelash walks around being mean and haughty and expects Prince Charming to crash his Porsche for her sake as a token of how much he likes her…and even then she’s still not happy.

Hint: A person who is that mean and cruel will never be happy, no matter what you do for them.

2) The insanely sexy love hound who has every girl in a 10 km radius at his beck and call who treats women like garbage but the girls lap it up to and somehow determine that with “the love of a good woman” (i.e Hers) she’ll somehow catch him, reform him and show off her Alpha Male to all the women everywhere. Hint: People who are used to being disrespectful, usually have a hard time changing their ways.

I wish someone would explain this to me, but is this sort of dating behavior and courtship “normal” and more socially acceptable in some circles than others? (I apologize in advance because I’ll be using a ton of generalizations and stereotypes here and no offense is intended anywhere.) I’m desperately searching for the article I read it in but I once read a line where insulting each other is a must when it comes to dating on American college campuses and between professionals in East Coast cities in order to “catch” (or trap)  the person you want.

I know I’m generalizing and maybe I’m a clumsy bear in this regard but my experience with people who try to pull this with me backfires in the worst possible way. Perhaps being an off-the-scale  INTJ-female has something to do with it (we’re rare ) but when I even detect games of this sort, I naturally bolt. I recall once I had a screechy female boss during a summer job who was a sadistic type, insulting and intimidating her employees to get anything done. When she tried it with me, I giggled. She nearly had a nervous break-down.

I couldn’t understand someone assigning themselves to soo much self-importance for such a small job.

I also recall meeting someone for tea who kept telling me he wasn’t interested in me, I just shrugged my shoulders, smiled, said “OK”, paid my bill and sauntered out. I figure if someone isn’t interested, then why should I be interested in them? He ran out after me and then had the nerve to ask if I was still going to talk to him anymore. Suffice to say, it was an instant turn-off.

I just don’t think real love or real respect has room for this kind of mental, emotional  and spiritual immaturity and it baffles me to no end that while everyone claims to be looking for real, true love yet at the same time, they then engage in this kind of behavior. If the right hand and left hand are going in two opposite directions, how the hell can you ever build anything?

Rhetorical question: Isn’t being spiritual, being kinder to one another, being more loving, all that stuff spiritualists, New Agers, conspiracy theorists and yogis usually go on about, isn’t it about being more truthful, more honest with yourself which then leads to a personal transformation and that would (in theory) then lead to a societal and planetary transformation if enough people do it?

See, a part of me is deeply pessimistic when I see that kind of emotional dishonesty running rampant in the world, that our economy, marriages, even friendships are predicated either on self-interest, economic gain, financial security etc. In short, fear.

Another part of me is deeply hopeful because I think the old ways of doing things have their days numbered. The machine is broken and the replacement parts have been discontinued. A new way of relating to one another and and new mindset is in the process of being created and birthed. It’s not completely out yet, but like some days in late winter, there are moments where you feel, even for a second, a foreshadow of spring which is on it’s way. Likewise, there are foreshadowed glimpses of this change in relation to one another.

An artist, who I always felt was a few steps ahead of everyone else, is David Bowie. He has a long history of being on the edge and figuring out trends and defining them before the mainstream even gets it.

Many astrologers have said that Aquarius is the sign of the Androgyn, that the Age of Aquarius will be marked by more androgyny, that there will be a further blurring of the sexes and traditional roles as we speed towards a more level playing field. Bowie’s latest video for “The Stars are Out Tonight” has him (looking fantastic for 66 incidentally) and uber-Androgyn Tilda Swinton playing with the idea of androgyny to the hilt (There’s even a  website which postulates that Bowie and Swinton are one and the same person!)

So going back to the idea of a new way of relating to one another. Seriously, you know what’s REALLY hot? I mean the kind of hotness that leaves you weak in your knees, the kind that has your mind wandering into serious X-rated territory when it shouldn’t be there, the kind that causes you to blush at the oddest moments?

Some of that old-fashioned stuff like integrity, loyalty, honesty, kindness and of course a rollicking sense of humor. Think of them along the lines of old-fashioned medicines like Witch Hazel, Cod Liver Oil or Castor Oil. Old fashioned, yes, but by golly, do they ever get the job done and done well

The Berkshires in Western Massachusetts is a weird and wonderful place. An area intersected by the old Mohawk Trail, gentle undulating, fertile valleys, fresh water springs, old New England towns full of (usually haunted) Victorian mansions and a strange ability to attract big-time celebrities who decide to buy local homes/estates and settle down to non-LA/non-Hollywood lives and run “gentleman farms” (i.e not real farms). It’s easy to see why Gothic horror writers like John Bellairs based their books on the area and architecture.

Once upon a time, men and women would gussy themselves up and put on scarves, gloves and maybe driving goggles and take off with the wind to discover new vistas, and see where the roads would take them.

Drives were considered to be adventures in themselves, a romantic way of travelling which we seem to have lost these days. The Mohawk Trail, aside from having an interesting history was one of America’s first scenic drive routes. I did it earlier this week while visiting a few psychic and dowser friends in the area.

My friend, Peter Champoux, is a dowser and earth grid reader and earth healer. A few years ago, he wrote a book called “The Gaia Matrix” and using the earth energy grid and the natural rock formations and geography, he’s able to locate energy vortexes in just about any given area. I’m sure some of you have heard of ley lines, dragon lines, energy lines which traverse this planet and where some mighty interesting stuff have a tendency being built up on. The Chinese art of feng shui is practically entirely based on this science.

The art and science of finding ley lines can get complicated very quickly.

I’m naturally a bit skeptical of things unless I can experience them or figure it out on my own but I’ve had my own experiences in Cappadocia (where I thrived), Peru (where I blissed out)  and Washington D.C (where I nearly died) so I know these things are real.

When we went driving through some of the energy vortexes which he had mapped out in the local area, no joke, I was literally taken out and almost immediately fell asleep as a result. That has never happened to me before. Peter’s grid is a little different from others that he places the center of the American grid squarely in New England and not Washington, DC which other maps do.

Why? Because the high-frequency side of American culture is centered in New England, the home of the New England Transcendentalists like Thoreau, Emerson, Whitman, and writers like Herman Melville and Nathaniel Hawthorne, including dozens of Native American holy sites –> good, enlightening energy as opposed to the gross, dirty energy which an imperialist political capital like Washington D.C or a cultural capital like Los Angeles or economic capital like NYC generates.

Who in their right mind would want an pit like Las Vegas to be their energetic capital?

(Want to find the energy hot spots in your neck of the woods? Get out there and start looking at the natural land formations, the history of those places and then see how you really feel when you get there. There are spots literally everywhere but it takes some detective work finding them.)

His next project will be to use the Hawkins Calibration scale for assessing the frequencies of some of these vortexes which leads me into the work of David R. Hawkins. I did not know of his work until I heard about it through Peter and it is indeed transformational stuff and a powerful tool anyone can use for themselves.

Hawkins was a kinesiologist and psychiatrist who developed his universal scale for assessing in the most basic terms possible, whether something, someone, some place is really good for you (and only you) or not. People have been known to calibrate food at the supermarket before buying it! You can figure this out by seeing that things which are good and closer to Universal Consciousness will automatically rate higher and those which are either worse or just plain bad will rate lower. The idea being that anything which rates 200 or below is not worth your time while things which rate above 600 is getting into high-frequency territory. 1000 is in the territory of Enlightenment. Here’s the scale.

So….how do you do it, right? Several methods exist, you can do the arm test like Hawkins demonstrates in this video or you can use a pendulum, one which you have cleared, attuned to you and keep safely away from other people’s use and psychic influence.

The better you get at it, the faster the readings come. I was shown how to use the pendulum method ( you need to use a heavy one). You basically need to ask the pendulum to give you a “yes” and see how it moves (circle? clockwise? counterclockwise? side to side? back and forth?). Once it shows you how it says “yes”, you need to ask for a “no” and see how it moves for that. Then you need to for “Maybe” or “Can’t answer now”.

I’ve been going crazy with my pendulum all week but here’s an example of how to do a calibration:

1) Print up a picture of say a place you’re thinking of going to (eg. Costa Rica)
2) Hold pendulum over this picture and ASK directly, “What is the calibration for Costa Rica?”
3) Watch pendulum move, how is it moving according to your “Yes”, “No” or “Maybe”?
4) Start counting. If it moves for example from the beginning side to side, go with that. Count 100 (still side to side), 200 (same), 300 (suddenly changes direction). Then you know that Costa Rica is somewhere between 200-300 for you at that specific time.
If you want to know the exact number, you can then start counting in increments of 10 from 200, say it starts changing direction at 280, that will probably be your Hawkins calibration for Costa Rica. In other words, not very good so don’t go there.

Granted these things are highly subjective and probably change all the time, but if its using your own energetic field and no one else’s, I think there’s some merit to that. Hawkins’ methods have many sceptics as well but like I have said earlier, experience is usually the best teacher, you’re your own best judge to see what will work for you and what won’t. As far as I’m concerned, it never hurts to add to your own bag of tricks. The ability and talent for discernment is far under-rated nowadays.
