September 2016 Astrology – Falling Idols, The Wetiko Illness and David Icke in NYC

I don’t know what it has been like in your neck of the woods, but it’s been a strange, strange summer for almost everyone I know. With the alternative research community going crazy over the Zen Gardner fallout, it now looks like Aussie researcher Max Igan has outed another so-called “Truth Warrior”, Ken O’Keefe.

(There’s a pretty hilarious fellow who goes by the name of C.W Chanter who has been posting videos about all this stuff on Youtube lately if any of you are interested).
Ken and Max in Gaza in better times (2013)

Ken and Max in Gaza in better times (2013)

For those of you that don’t know, Ken is a former Navy Seal-turned-save-the whales-activist-turned-Save-Palestine activist (he was on the Gaza flotilla when it was raided by Israeli soldiers in international waters a few years ago). He’s been highlighted on places like RT and PressTV for his stridently pro-Palestinian stance but according to Max, it turns out he made some bullshit non-profit drive called ‘World Citizens Solutions‘ and pocketed the donations to go buy land in Dominica and retire.
With this back-and-forth with Old Man Saturn in Sagittarius, the planet of karma doing his dance around the sign of higher progressive thought and philosophy, in some ways I’m not surprised some of these guys are being outed now. There will be more to come, not just in the alt research community but everywhere else I’m afraid.
I’m a firm believer that you have to listen and watch news sources you never would normally do if you really want the truth on anything. Remember the cardinal rule: There’s always three sides to any story, your’s, the other person’s and the Truth is usually somewhere in between. Syrian leader Bashar Al Assad gave a fantastic interview to MSNBC a few weeks ago, made the journalist look like a bumbling idiot and exposed American and Western intervention in the Middle East for what it really is: an attempt to destabilise the entire region, institute regime change (i.e.. put in a puppet leader who will follow the orders of Washington and London ahead of the best interests of their own people) , create a new and larger Israel and pave the way for Americans to get into and control Central Asia. Assad is many things but stupid isn’t one of them. Before politics, he was a trained ophthalmologist and doctor. Hezbollah leader, Nasrallah goes into exact detail why this is happening. ISIS is an American/Saudi/UAE/Israeli creation and paid proxy. Nothing more. Once everyone understands that, the jig is up.

From what both Carl Boudreau and Steve Judd have indicated, there will be an intense series of eclipses taking place which are going to rattle people and places. There’s a solar eclipse on September 1st and then another lunar one on September 16th and a Mercury retrograde happening the whole time. Steve predicts more geological changes and people’s irritability buttons are gong to be pushed, big time.
“This surge of eclipse energy from the mutable T-Square will accelerate the demise of global oligarchy and hasten the end of the gross political and economic inequality threatens global stability. The eclipse energies will trigger and accelerate karmic consequences for using dishonest and manipulative language. This will further cleanse our politics and economics of toxic rhetoric and hasten the end of the oligarchic institutions and practices that it supports. “
So it would seem whether you are a powerful oligarchy, a mighty government and military with a false sense of entitlement, the myths of nationalism or an internet New Age shyster on a soapbox, your words are going to come back to haunt you. Truth only needs two things to help it come out: Perfect Timing and Perfect Opportunity. That’s an iron law.

Because of this whole Zen Gardner fall-out, one of the side effects is that a certain Native American word has been making the rounds on many sites lately. It started out on Paul Levy’s website where he talks about “wetiko”, a psycho-spiritual illness which induces blind-spots which makes people to destroy the very base the live on, the land, the air and the water (it’s not a coincidence that the stand-off between pipeline companies and Native American tribes is now taking place in North Dakota over access to safe water. Chief Arvol Looking Horse of the Lakota nation has put out a statement on this and it is well-worth reading and thinking about.)
Wetiko—whose origin is within the human psyche—induces a psychological blindness such that those who have fallen under its spell not only think of themselves as sighted, but arrogantly believe they are more sighted than those who are clear-sighted. Instead of inducing people to see hallucinations that are not there, in what can be thought of as a “negative hallucination” the wetiko bug makes people unable to see what is there. Wetiko (I could—and did—write a book about it called Dispelling Wetiko: Breaking the Curse of Evil) can be thought of as a mind-virus that covertly operates through the blind-spots of the unconscious in such a way that those under its spell become its unwitting instruments to act it out—destructively—in the world while, at the same time, this virus of the mind surreptitiously hides itself from being seen.”
And that folks, is the basis of capitalism, indoctrination and the cult of individualism, right there.
Wetiko is what makes you look for more when you already have enough. Wetiko is what makes you afraid to share. Wetiko makes you suspicious of others. Wetiko is a hunger in the mind and soul which constantly needs to keep eating, buying and taking because it is never satisfied. Wetiko makes you covetous of what others have. It makes you want things you don’t really need. Wetiko is when you want something, know its inappropriate for you but don’t want to admit it so you look for an excuse, reason or justification to take it (I would say this is 99% of academic work and justifications for continued white privilege and cultural appropriation). In fact, it sums up the greedy colonial and imperialistic mindset very neatly, if you ask me, whether its Spanish, English, American or Chinese. If this world will have any chance at all, we all need to individually overcome Wetiko. Naming and identifying an illness is usually the first step to treating it.

Speaking of idols, David Icke has finished up his Australia and New Zealand portion of his world speaking tour. I’m heading down to New York next week for a few days off and to take in his Brooklyn show. A friend saw him in Sydney (and momentarily met him too, outside the venue) and said it was worth every minute even if it is an all-day show. I’m almost positive that the New York and especially the L.A show will be filled with celebrity and insider types given that folks like Jim Carey and Johnny Depp and practically every sci-fi screenwriter in Hollywood in the last 15 years follow Icke’s work.

Twilight of the Old Gods – Part II

Eye-opening read. Serious food for thought.

Eye-opening read. Serious food for thought.

I also recently finished off reading “The Alphabet versus the Goddess: The Conflict between Word and Image” by Leonard Shlain. Shlain used to be a surgeon and inventor. He invented some rather very specific forms of laparoscopic surgery but he was also an amateur critical theorist.

The gist of the book is that when human beings started with alphabetic literacy, learning to read and write, it rewired the brain in a completely different way  and brought about negative changes to a pre-literate cultures which were usually holistic and intuitive in outlook, were more right-brain influenced (right brain “rules” the creative faculties as opposed to the analytical left brain faculties), was more  focused on images, venerated the Goddess and “feminine” values like cooperation, community, sharing and communalism. With reading and writing, the brain shifted gears suddenly towards the left brain. Suddenly thinking which used to be more creative and intuitive, became linear and analytical and a shift from a Goddess-based culture to a patriarchal one, one we are still living with.  Reading this book alone may cause a shift in your ability to interpret the culture around you in a very radical way.
Right brain vs. Left brain

Right brain vs. Left brain

Shlain does this by doing some rather intriguing detective work and examining pre-literate cultures, their myths and stories, specifically the Israelites, Greeks, Egyptians, Mesopotamians and Babylonians.  I should insert here that Shlain himself was Jewish and he didn’t spare his own tribe at all.
Relief of Babylonian gods.

Relief of Babylonian gods.

He examined the origins of the Egyptians and the Hyksos,  When he tried figuring out the origins of the Jewish peoples, what he surmised was that, in his opinion, the Jews were originally a sub-sect of Babylonian society.  Specifically Babylonians who were scribes, who for whatever reason, were either kicked out or left Babylonian society and then became “The Jews”.
Ancient Egyptian scribes

Ancient Egyptian scribes

Shlain then makes some very important and startling points. First of all you have to remember, until not so long ago, not everyone could read or write. Mass literacy is a relatively recent historical development. For most of history , the majority of people could neither read, write nor do simple math. People who could, usually had very high social positions in feudalistic and prehistorical societies. Scribes in particular had a very special place in the courts of kings and rulers.
Fragment of Babylonian script. Can you read this?

Fragment of Babylonian script. Can you read this?

Among most historians, it is acknowledged that the area in the Fertile Crescent is ground zero in the development of written and recorded language. This is where you really need to pay attention: Shlain points out if you’re the only one in your group who can read or write and no one else can understand what you are writing down, then you’re pretty much free to write down whatever you want, make up whatever story you want, and there is absolutely no one there to contest it or refute it. No one can read or understand what you just wrote down. In other words, it is literally a “carte blanche” to write-up any myth you want about your self or your history and there can’t be any fact-checking or discussion.
Shlain thinks this is where these  Babylonian scribes who left, who self-identified and became the Jews and were thus able to forge a story about themselves as “chosen”, stories about Adam and Eve, stories about a jealous God and pretty much everything else in the earliest chapters of the Hebrew Bible. In other words, you really shouldn’t believe everything you read no matter how old or it is.

I’ll be very honest and upfront about this – It is NOT about the Jews.

What I take an exception to, is any kind of idea or mindset of any group  which thinks of itself, as “special”, “destined” or chosen” and then use that mindset to justify anything they want to do, like what ultra right-wing Israelis do to Palestinians, for instance or what white North American settlers did to Native Americans and First Nations Peoples under the guise of Manifest Destiny or what Brits did in the name of Empire. More recent political pundits and policy makers may call it the Monroe Doctrine or call it “American exceptionalism” and quite often invoke this as a reason to start of regime change in places like Chile in 1973, Iraq in 2003, Libya in 2011 and now Syria. Anytime, you have one group of people saying that their shit smells better than anyone else’s, that’s the exact moment you antennae and Spidey senses should be tingling.
What this small example shows, is that if this is the possible origin story of ONE of the millions of  stories around us, specific narratives we have based our world on, can you imagine what else is completely wrong?

Old Wine in New Bottles

“Magic is the science and practice of influence. If objects or beings have a positive influence on the world around them, we call this white magic, and if they disrupt, disturb or destroy, we call this black magic. In that sense we can consider everything as magic: gestures, words, looks, sounds, colors, geometrical shapes, and so on. And the same goes for animals, plants and minerals: inasmuch as they have an effect on beings, attracting or repelling them, healing them or making them ill, they have magical power.
When we look at the sun, the stars, mountains or lakes, we can feel the effect and the influence they have on us. And to a certain extent, we influence them as well. And because everything in the universe influences everything else, magic is everywhere. When you understand this and endeavor to think, feel and act positively, you will become a white mage.”

– Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov

As per Aivanhov’s quote above, some serious black magic went down in Paris. I’m not going to dwell on what happened too much; already websites, conspiracy researchers, political pundits the world over are in overdrive right now, analyzing what happened, by whom and why. I’ll leave it to them to pick up the breadcrumb trail.

I will only say this; usually if you follow the money trail and ask those kinds of questions like “Who paid for those guns?” “Who is funding ISIS?”, “Where is the cash really coming from to pay for their training and hardware?”, “Who is paying ISIS fighters?”, it’ll probably get you further along in solving these mysteries. but it would seem black market forensic accounting and finance are not nearly sexy enough to pursue (or perhaps too blatantly exposing?) than pointing fingers and fueling xenophobia and stressing out an already stressed-out situation in order to gain some political capital. I just don’t think those questions are being followed up on aggressively enough.

I know Vladimir Putin is currently being demonized in the West and like all politicians of course, he has his own agenda, but I think both he and the amazing Australian independent journalist, John Pilger, pretty much nailed it, in the video below and in this article, respectively.

Do a little math, pay attention to history and it’s not hard to figure out that the American invasion of Iraq, Afghanistan and eventually of Syria (if they get what they want) is what opened this Pandora’s Box of craziness. I don’t blame Bush Jr. I know he was am almost positive he was comatose most of the time he was in office anyway and was played as a puppet.

(L to R) Donald Rumsfeld, George W. Bush, Dick Cheney

(L to R) Donald Rumsfeld, George W. Bush, Dick Cheney

The real thugs were Donald Rumsfeld and Dick Cheney, both of whom are obsessed with American Grand Strategy and Imperialism, and both of whom seem to be missing in action now. (Rumsfeld I understand is now buying up all the real estate he can in super-New Agey and super-liberal, Taos, New Mexico. When I was there, a buddy of mine told me Rumsfeld is positively despised in the community and he has to wear a mask when he goes skiing in the mountains there so no one can recognize him since everybody gives him stinky eye all the time. And Cheney…I don’t think he’s human. I think he’s like the robot in the “Terminator” films, he has iced-cold liquid mercury running in his veins which keeps him alive.)

And here's Dick!

And here’s Dick!

There’s a serious story here somewhere, probably a hot-mess soup involving weapons manufacturers, arms dealers, the military industrial complex, the heroin and opium trade in central Afghanistan, off-shore accounts, international banking cartels, American Grand Strategy, intelligence agencies like the CIA, MI6 and Mossad, oil money, lecherous Saudis and paid Western politicians. Like penicillin bacterium growing on my window sill, I don’t know the dirty details, the various relationships  and I certainly can’t see it but I’m sure it’s there. Germs are all alike – you can’t see them but you’ll eventually see the symptoms of the disease they all trigger. You just gotta know what you’re seeing isn’t a cause by itself by a symptom of something far deeper.

Spiritual teachings the world over stress the unity of everything, how everything is interconnected in the web of life. I have no doubt the same rule applies on the darker side of existence as well.

Oh, what a tangled web we weave...

Oh, what a tangled web we weave…

I’m going to end this with a bit of a white magick trick. I was discussing this a few nights ago with a friend that there are times, I’m sure we have all felt, when we prayed, meditated and pleaded with the Un-i-verse to please give us a sign, any sign, that something or someone has heard us and instead, there’s absolutely nothing. Nada. Zilch. Zero. Dead silence. We wait and wait and nothing shows up or happens.

However, the second you make a move in the right direction, you make a difficult but right decision, you say something right and true even if you are scared everyone will hate you for it, you move towards the truth even if all the chips are down and you’re terrified, the strangest thing is going to happen to you. Out of nowhere, you’re going to feel strength returning, you’re going to feel something “warm” for lack of a better word, you’re gong to feel a lightness in your limbs which wasn’t there before, which will keep propelling you forward. That’s your sign. It begins with that feeling but if you keep going along that path, you’re going to start to feel Presences around you, the good kind, you’re going to lose the fear, you’re going to start living second by second. And that’s real Magic. Use it well.

The Mess of Identity

In the last few weeks, I have been beginning to see some extremely encouraging signs of change, even incremental, small ones, in the way public discourse and conversations are taking place.

First of all I am extremely pleased that American comedian Bill Maher has finally been exposed as the Islamophobe that he is and that it took not only a well-respected academic like Professor Reza Aslan to do it….

but a Hollywood actor like Ben Affleck as well

Yup.

Yup.

I admit, I used to like Maher, particularly the way he lampooned the ultra right-wing nut jobs in the US but his racism and all-too-obvious dislike of all Muslims became very clear over time. (I remember watching an episode of “Real Time with Bill Maher” when Nobel Peace Prize winner and the father of microcredit, Dr. Muhammad Yunus was on the show. Maher was condescending, rude and made snide remarks which Yunus did not catch, but the rest of the panel did. It was painful to watch)

antimuslim

Aslan and Affleck were trying to point out that “Islam” is not some homogenous, monolithic entity which is bloodthirsty all the way through and that a few bad apples is not representative of the whole barrel.  Maher (and that annoying pseudo-intellectual poser Sam Harris) don’t seem to understand how culture differentiates Islam from region to region.

This Turkish woman is Muslim but that doesn't mean that she dresses or acts or lives like Muslim women in Saudi Arabia....

This Turkish woman is Muslim but that doesn’t mean that she dresses or acts or lives like Muslim women in Saudi Arabia….

...like these women.

…like these women.

A Muslim in Bangladesh will be very different from a Muslim in Turkey, Pakistan or a Muslim in Saudi Arabia. It’s like comparing hard-core Opus Dei Catholics in Spain to say Catholics in Ireland, Mexico, Poland or Catholics in rural Quebec. Their expressions of faith will be very different from place to place, in large part due to culture. Maher does have a few Muslim friends, namely Salman Rushdie and Ayaan Hirsi Ali, two Muslim “spokespersons” who experienced the worst aspects of Islam themselves (via the fatwa in Rushdie’s case and female genital mutilation in Hirsi Ali’s case) but they only reinforce his opinion of what a bunch of savages most Muslims are deep down inside. The backlash against Maher and his ilk, mostly from non-Muslims has been surprising and encouraging. I didn’t expect that.

The problem isn’t just Maher and Harris. Those two are examples of the “acceptable” forms of racism rampant among Western liberals and progressives and right now, Islamophobia is quite acceptable. It’s the poster-child of “good” racism.

A few weeks ago Henrik Palmgren of Sweden’s Red Ice Radio, a show I normally listen to from time to time because of the interesting guests Henrik is usually able to score, had an interview with David Icke and it was really disappointing to say the least. Palmgren was baiting Icke over issues of race, immigration, multiculturalism, the legacy of colonialism and cultural purity. It’s painfully obvious to anyone who wants to hear it. Icke, to his credit, walked right over that pool of quick-sand and I have a strong feeling he knew what was going on and saw right through it. (Thumbs up, David!).

We just had Canadian Thanksgiving this past weekend while Americans had Columbus Day, or as many American cities and states are increasingly adopting in place, Indigenous People’s Day . That would have been unthinkable even ten years ago. When I was growing up in the 1970s and 80s, it was still (good) cowboys and (bad) Indians, like in John Wayne movies. Now it’s in people’s faces right on mainstream network TV. John Oliver and RT especially killed it.

This is the kind of image of "Cowboys and Indians" I was exposed to while growing up...

This is the kind of image of “Cowboys and Indians” I was exposed to while growing up…

Identity politics can get super messy, super quickly. I understand how people can get passionate or have very strong feelings about these issues. I mean I don’t consider myself a practicing “good” Muslim Indian Bengali-Canadian by any stretch of the imagination (if that were the case I would have never discovered the joys of sipping iced-cold vodka martinis), but I can’t help but feel angry or step up and say something when I see the carnage in Gaza and the media blaming it on “Muslim extremists” or have my blood boil over when I see how Muslim men abuse vulnerable girls in England or keep dozen of wives as prisoner sex-slaves in Saudi Arabia. I also get angry when I observe the media coverage over a spoiled, white American college girl who ends up doing something stupid while on holiday versus the long-standing incarceration of an innocent, eloquent black dissident and writer like Mumia Abu Jamal.

Mr. Bad-Assery himself, Mumia Abu Jamal

Mr. Badassery himself, Mumia Abu Jamal

I don’t think it’s so much about identifying yourself as “this” or “that”. Yes, our differences are worth celebrating and understanding, it’s what makes us all different and unique and interesting to each other. It gives life spice and flavor. Sometimes it goes wrong and you get cultural appropriation. Sometimes it goes right and you get a wonderful new mix of ideas and culture creating something completely original and beautiful. From a spiritual point of view, it might mean I’m Bengali Canadian in the here and now. I might end up Swedish and male in the next round or maybe I was an Austrian Jew in the last round. Who knows? Who cares? That’s not the issue. It’s really about making the conscious decision to walk in someone else’s shoes for even a minute and base our actions on that.

I’m going to close off with something Mumia Abu Jamal wrote and which Professor Noam Chomsky recently read out loud for a documentary about Mumia (from 14:50 in the video below) . I think it perfectly sums up our commonalities over our differences.
“In truth, none of us are whole, as in “finished”, for we are all beings who are still in the process of “Becoming”. We are trying to live in the midst of struggle against forces that try, daily, to confine, constrain and restrict our being. In a sense, these forces are as powerful, relentless and invisible as gravity. There but not “there”. Dig me? So we seek to heal in a place that is profoundly unhealthy; consumerism, patriarchy, white-supremacy and inquisitiveness are things that grip us all. We are all fish, swimming in that proverbial dead sea of materialism, seeking fresh water where we can wash our gills. Our challenge, it seems to me, is to be, or become, sensitive, feeling and loving beings, who seek to better the environment into which we were born. Speaking of liberal clichés, we must “Make it Better”, and it is that very doing, that becomes a part of our being, for we join in our hearts, minds and mouths and our bodies, in the struggles of those unfree amongst us. In a real sense, we become them. I think that was the life message of folks like Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X and why we remember and revere them. We felt them. And Martin gave up the ghost for garbage men in Memphis. Malcolm reached out to brothers in the Arab and African worlds and became a part of them. In many ways, they redefined who *we* were and became a part of us, through their impact on our lives and our consciousness.”

The Veneer of Spiritual Specialness

Mike Myers as a guru.

Mike Myers as a guru.

“True initiates, true disciples present themselves in a simple, natural manner and are always approachable. Why do you wish to impress others and attract their attention with superior airs? You will say: ‘But are we not to manifest our spiritual accomplishments?’ You must not hide them, and you must not display them either. Since you are working on yourself and are busy modelling and sculpting your inner being, let this show in the features of your face, in your behaviour, and in your gestures. But you yourself, stay simple and natural. Why demand recognition with affected behaviour? Since you follow a spiritual teaching, know that your qualities of wisdom, purity, and nobility will show through your expression and your attitude, without any need on your part to assume all sorts of poses to advertise it. Allow your inner work to speak for itself, and even without your realising it, it will bear witness to you. In your wish to help others, you are probably going to absorb some impurities, but do not worry. Think of water and tell yourself that you can follow its example. Yes, water, which is so transparent, so innocent, comes down to earth to absorb all the impurities of the creatures here. Then, one day, it merges with the ocean, and recovers its original purity. If you complain of being defiled, taken advantage of, and diminished, it is quite simply because you think of yourself as a pond, or even worse, a small puddle. Instead of identifying with a puddle, identify with the ocean and you will feel that nothing and no one can soil you. Then, in time, you will be seized by the rays of the spiritual sun which will take charge of your purification, and by rising into space, you will leave behind all the impure elements you have absorbed on your journey.”

– Omraam Mikhael Aivanhov

[To my batch of new readers and followers, thank you and welcome. Also, get used to the Aivanhov quotes in this blog. Aivanhov was a Gnostic, Bulgarian mystic and spiritual master and I’m a huge fan of his teachings.]

Aivanhov here is talking about what another late metaphysician, Stuart Wilde called “The Cult of the Chosen One”.
You know what I’m talking about, right?

John Friend, before the fall.

John Friend, rock-star yogi, before the fall.

Those people you meet at either some spiritual group, New Age gathering or at a yoga studio/mala who boast about who is more spiritually advanced than you, who has had more spiritual experiences that you, who has more spiritual faculties awakened than you and then use that as a selling point to make you feel bad about yourself and lure you into their own cult of personality. Unfortunately, many so-called teachers and gurus also display this stupid tendency, and in my book that’s an automatic red flag and a sign to stay the hell away because it’s ego-driven, not based on anything compassionate or genuineness.

quote-pride-makes-us-artificial-and-humility-makes-us-real-thomas-merton-126335

One thing I learned with my time with some of the First Nations Native tribes is that genuine and authentic Elders and wisdom keepers work with absolute humility. Humility in this sense is not about putting yourself down and thinking less of yourself but rather thinking about yourself, your issues and your stuff less. They don’t say very much, they certainly don’t advertise themselves online or put out brochures and they don’t really boast about their abilities on Facebook or Twitter. Rather, once they’ve accepted you as a student or feel you’re ready to receive teachings, little by little, in their actions, you start observing that they may actually know some really neat stuff worth knowing.

Mental telepathy is one ability many sadhus claim to have.

Mental telepathy is one ability many sadhus claim to have.

Hindu lore especially around the sadhus, or the Muslim Sufi ascetics known as fakirs are rife with stories of supernatural abilities, like levitation, the ability to prognosticate the future, forcing a mango tree to grow in front of your eyes from seed, mental telepathy, telekinesis, tricks like producing ash out of thin air like Sathya Sai Baba used to do or walking on water (which is why the story of Jesus walking on water isn’t such a big deal in India). Native American tribes and Siberian/Mongolian shamanic tribes talk about people with the ability to be skin walkers. Practically every culture in the world has stories of people who display what we would consider to be supra-natural ability.

A Siberian shaman.

A Siberian shaman.

Much of the spiritual literature in Hinduism, Sufism, and Buddhism are unequivocal about these abilities which they call “siddhi” and say that should you develop siddhi along your path to Enlightenment/Oneness, don’t pay any attention to them. These are just the little foothills of distractions on the way to the real mountains towering behind them.

Uri Geller and his bending spoons.

Uri Geller and his bending spoons.

So in case you ever meet someone who does have siddhi, like bending spoons or knows how to see your future on a polished fingernail and uses that ability to somehow convince you to join their group or follow them, I would just quietly suggest to give them a pass. Most of them are just trying to distract you. If you’re hunting for big game, this is just small fish in comparison.

Also, the next time you encounter someone who boasts about being “more spiritual” and tries to come across as more special than you, don’t say anything. Instead, just watch their actions closely because that’s where you’ll find your answer and find out everything you need to know about that person.

As for real teachers and real spiritual masters, I can only speak for myself and from my own experiences but I find the legit ones, their words have a consistent ability to almost have an immediate effect on you. They consistently have a knack for getting to the heart of any matter, quite often using simple words, not complicated jargon, which then resonates on such a deep level with you that you just automatically “get it”. Quite often, you’re not the same afterwards or you start looking at the world in a different way completely, and usually for the better.

Teachers and teachings are everywhere. You just got to know how to look and pick up what you need for your journey. They show up in unexpected places and ways and it’s up to you to pick up the trail of cosmic breadcrumbs.

I had written about a little-known Canadian seeress named Alma Rumball about two years ago. Alma is an example of someone whose works have much to teach us should we want to listen. Recently a documentary about her extraordinary life story was finally uploaded to Youtube and it is well worth a watch.

Enjoy.

When Life is Up For Sale

ATTENTION: NSFW and some disturbing content below and links. For mature readers only.

As I wrote earlier, I’ve been on a film kick lately. I’m usually attracted to stuff which explores metaphysical themes anyway so I struggled with writing this blog post and whether to publish it or not. I then decided, that as disturbing, ugly and painful as some aspects may be, in the end, the message is too important to pass up.

Pier Paolo Pasolini was a bit of a genius polymath. A writer, journalist, art critic, poet, painter, actor, novelist, philosopher, intellectual, political commentator, and finally, film maker and director, there was not much on the creative side of culture he did not study or work in. More than a little ahead of his time, Pasolini often stumped or enraged the critics of his day and nearly 40 years after his death, people are just starting to understand him and his work with a deeper appreciation, mostly because for his uncanny foresight and prescience of the world to come.

Film poster of "The Canterbury Tales"

Pasolini had made a trio of films called the Trilogy of Life, which included “Decameron”(1971), “The Canterbury Tales”(1972) and “The Flower of the 1001 Nights”(1974) which in themselves were bawdy, lusty but joyful depictions of human sexuality. There is a joy and playfulness in the Trilogy which is pretty obvious to anyone who takes the time to watch them. Pasolini was no prude. He was openly gay in a time and culture when that was socially unacceptable and no doubt that bled into his work.

His next and final film was the mother lode.
In 1975, Pasolini did Salò, (or The 120 Days of Sodom), based of course, on the notorious book by the Marquis de Sade. Only Pasolini changed the setting completely and placed it in the final days of Fascist Italy in the 1940s. (Before I go any further, I should warn anyone who wants to watch this film or take it lightly that this is a VERY disturbing film, and not in a slasher-horror film kind of way. Even if  nothing is real in the film and props and fakes were used, the content is very troubling. You have to be very, very , very strong to watch it and should weaker, more delicate souls watch this, it will affect you on a subconscious level so you’ve been warned and need to take personal responsibility if you decide to watch it.)

The 4 aristocrats, representing Royalty, Clergy, Law, and Political Leadership

The 4 aristocrats, representing Royalty, Clergy, Law, and Political Leadership

The film instantly was banned in practically every country in the world because of its graphic depictions of sexual mutilation, sadism, mental and physical torture and coprophagia. It remains banned in Malaysia and Singapore even now. There’s not much to the plot, only in Republic of Salò, the Fascist-occupied part of Italy, in 1944, four wealthy men of power, the Duke (Royalty), the Bishop (Religion/Clergy), the Magistrate (the Law), and the President (the Leader/Executive), agree to marry each other’s daughters as the first step in a debauched ritual. They recruit four teenage boys to act as guards and four young soldiers (called “studs), who are chosen because of their large physical genital endowments. They then kidnap nine young men and nine young women and take them to a palace near Salò. Accompanying them are four middle-aged prostitutes, also collaborators, who recount arousing stories for the men of power, who, in turn, sadistically exploit their victims.

The four older prostitutes.

The four older prostitutes.

The story depicts some of the 120 days at the palace, during which the four men come up with even more abhorrent tortures and humiliations for their own pleasure. The film follows four different segments inspired by Dante’s Inferno, the Anti-Inferno, the Circle of Manias, the Circle of Shit and the Circle of Blood. I am not going to recount what happens in the film, you can read that elsewhere, but rather focus on what the film and it’s aftermath really shows up.

The kidnapped.

The kidnapped, at right.

Reader, this film will break your heart and your shake your will to live.
I had to force myself to watch it through and had a good cry afterwards but as horrific as the scenes and actions are, there is a method to the madness here and I understand what Pasolini was trying to warn us of. Pasolini understood what market forces ultimately do to human beings, human souls and human bodies. When life becomes commoditized to market forces, that’s when the real torture begins. When you lose respect for life and look at it as a commodity, you lose your ability to feel any empathy and start treating others as objects to your own whims and inclinations – and the results often do end up becoming horrific.

Pasolini saw the writing on the wall back in 1975, before globalization really took hold of the world, before drug cartels controlled economies and before Banksters, Royalty, Religion, Law and Political Leaders hoodwinked the public to pay for their gross ineptitude and greedy appetites. He understood and saw all too clearly what the final outcome was going to be and started to ring the warning bell in the most brutal, urgent way possible. Unfortunately, he paid the price for it with his life. Shortly after production wrapped, Pasolini was brutally murdered in what many suspect was a Mafia hit. He was run over by a car, several times in a row, and pictures of his mangled, crushed body were published in the newspapers, shocking the Italian public even more. Somehow man and myth became one.

The antithesis of “Salo”, a film which argues very well against this materialism, I think is “A Canterbury Tale” (1944) by the dynamic duo of Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger. Set in wartime England, and like Geoffrey Chaucer’s original story of a group of eccentric pilgrims on their way to Canterbury Cathedral, it follows three young people: British Army Sergeant Peter Gibbs, US Army Sergeant Bob Johnson (played by real-life Sergeant John Sweet), and a land girl, Miss Alison Smith.

(L toR) Sargeant Bob, Alison and Sargent John

(L toR) Sergeant Bob Johnson, Alison Smith and Sargent Peter Gibbs

The group arrive at the railway station in a small Kent town of Chillingbourne, near Canterbury, late on night. Peter has been stationed at a nearby Army camp, Alison is due to start working on a farm in the area, and Bob left the train by mistake, hearing the announcement “next stop Canterbury” and thinking he was in Canterbury. As they leave the station together, Alison is attacked by a mysterious assailant in uniform who pours glue on her hair, before escaping. The remainder of the film is about the three of them sleuthing to find out who is”The Glue Man”.

That’s just the plot. It’s also a meditation on why nature has to be protected at all costs, the true cost of war and technology in human terms, the joy of childhood innocence and that miracles do happen. Chaucer’s pilgrims travelled to Canterbury to “receive a blessing, or to do penance”.  It’s really at the end which brings the film to a glorious, spiritual conclusion where each of them receives a blessing. (If you’re feeling lost or adrift, watch “A Canterbury Tale”.  It will help you find your bearings. )

The film also highlights The Pilgrims Way, an often-forgotten walking pilgrimage route which still runs through the English countryside ending at Canterbury Cathedral, and not unlike Santiago de Compostela in Northern Spain. The route is actually far older than the medieval pilgrimage route we know it as today and dates back to the Iron Age. (Quite often people doing the Pilgrim’s Way looking for blessings, end up doing penance and those looking to do penance end up with blessings. In other words, the route is some sort of karmic balancer and that is why I strongly suspect there’s a very powerful and still-pure ley line along that route.)

Map of The Pilgrim's Way.

Map of The Pilgrim’s Way.

Powell and Pressburger may have made the film in 1944, far earlier than Pasolini’s film, but I’ll leave you with the words of Sergeant John Sweet who played Sergeant Bob Johnson in the film. Sweet died in 2011 but he gave an interview in 2001 which is on the Criterion DVD of the film, when he returned to Canterbury for the first time after 57 odd years.

“When I say heads raised in the film, I do mean the spiritual, I mean that very much. This is about the human spirit. Indeed. I realized it yesterday. I saw it …clearly on the film, but I’m a little older and I know a little more than I did when I was 27… And today we’re hungry for this, without knowing how to move on it. …We’re hungry for something… For meaning. We’re talking about meaning… And we’re all short of it. We’re all trying to get it from science or from technology or…or mobile phones. And that’s… that’s silliness. There’s no spirituality in it or in the internet or facts or mobile phones…. It’s a poor, poor substitute for the spirit.”

Towards an Integrity-Based Civilization

John Pilger

Australian journalist and filmmaker John Pilger

John Pilger belongs to a rare breed of journalists and documentary filmmakers who, whenever they do something new, it’s worth giving up a couple of hours of your time to just drop everything and go read or watch their latest offering because you’ll learn much more in those hours than you ever will watching the news or reading the newspaper. Pilger is one, the BBC’s Adam Curtis (i.e The Power of Nightmares, The Century of Self)  is another as is the CBC’s McKenna brothers, Terence and Brian (i.e The Valour and the Horror, Big Sugar,  The Secret History of 9/11).

CBC's Brian McKenna

CBC’s Brian McKenna

Pilger’s latest article in the Guardian is about on how increasingly, Australian Aboriginal children continue to be forcefully taken away from their mothers. We’d like to think that Native and First Nations/Aboriginal people’s horrible history of assimilation, genocide, targeted killing, sexual and physical abuse in residential schools is exactly that, history,  but it would seem, it is still going on albeit, under a different name of social engineering and “social work”.
It coincides with another, similar story which is ongoing here in Canada as well. That eight hundred (800) First Nation’s women have gone missing . There has hardly been any press coverage about this story, most media outlets won’t talk about but would rather talk ad nauseum about interest rates.
01walkingposter
Our idiot Prime Minister Stephen Harper has done exactly jack-all about it even though there have been repeated calls for a serious inquiry into this. The RCMP keep talking about inquiries and ongoing investigations but I don’t think anything will come of it. I can’t help but shake the feeling that these are targeted killings and targeted abductions. It is a mindset which follows, “Wipe out the women and they can’t breed anymore”. If there aren’t anymore Native or Aboriginal people to deal with then the land claims and the claims to the resources on those lands will forever be secure and no one will ever put up a fight.
Native groups have been protesting the development of the Alberta oil sands and tar sands, something which Canada can profit from in the billions...

Native groups have been protesting the development of the Alberta oil sands and tar sands, something which Canada can profit from in the billions…

I am not a member of any of the First Nation’s tribes but I spent several years doing sweat lodges with Mohawk Elders, and spent time with Hopi Elders Grandfather Martin Gashweseoma and Grandfather Neil as well as attending Grandfather William Commanda‘s annual summer gathering up at the Kitigan Zibi reservation. One of my lodge brothers is a former Sun Dancer who now conducts men’s healing circles in the UK. He was gifted with the lodge teachings from Grandfather Frank Settee. Another Elder gifted me with an Eagle Feather which I work with and guard closely.
In short, I learnt a lot. I learned about animal medicines, the teachings of the Medicine Wheel, how Mother Earth teaches us. I learned a helluva lot more with my time with these Elders and their teachings and doing the serious spiritual work that I needed to do in those sweats than I ever would reading all the books by Eckhart Tolle or any of the Oprah Winfrey set. None of that would have been possible if those communities completely ceased to exist. One thing they always told me, was that the teachings must continue. Always.
People go on about “spiritual writers” and retreats and seminars and what not. I honestly think 99.99% are full of shit. They’re too busy building up their brand-name and making money to give two cents to your spiritual evolution and well-being. And so I say to those of you who are serious about this, just drop the gang of them. They don’t care about you. They only want your attention so long as they can make money off of you.  It’s not just the Oprah set, or the immature teachers you see in newspapers, but it’s also the bullshit Godmen and Godwomen of India and increasingly, the plastic credit-card shamans of South America.
Gabrielle Giffords (and Oprah) another New Age shyster

Gabrielle Bernstein (and Oprah) another New Age shyster

The one thing that really comes across about real Elders and wisdom keepers is that they are like rocks. They sit still, they say nothing but see all and understand all. They belong to that school of thought where you can see and hear a lot more the longer you keep your mouth shut.
Spend enough time with them and their sense of integrity eventually rubs off on you and you begin to see the world like they do. Some people might say that we accord too much importance to Native and Aboriginal people, but I think their teachings are now more important than ever.
Medicine Wheel
This isn’t meant to be a racial diatribe but rather a quick exposition of some teachings. If you examine the Medicine Wheel, you’ll see that the 4 cardinal directions have 4 colors, 4 races, 4 elements associated with them. The White Race is associated with Fire. They are keepers of Fire and are responsible for the Fire teachings. That also explains why everything they create has fire in it (i.e electricity, nuclear, thermal, hydroelectric power) and why they are so good with invention and technology.
techs-on-slot-row-by-bowerjpg-0a16db09dadc13db
The Red Race is associated with Earth. They are responsible for the Earth teachings, about working with the Earth (i.e farming) and how to read the Earth.  (Yellow Race is associated with Air, Black Race with Water).
The Fire teachings have outrun all the other teachings. Get too much fire and it scorches everything in its path. The thing is, the other three elements don’t stay quiet for very long because everything in Nature always tries to go back to balance. Its balance, not ours.

That landslide which happened in Washington State is Mother Earth trying to say something. How many people will listen? The same can be said for earthquakes and volcanoes. Storms, tornadoes and twisters fall under Air Teachings. Floods, typhoons and hurricanes fall under Water Teachings.

Aerial shot of the Washington mudslide

Part of Western civilization’s push in scientific endeavors and development is following something called evidence-based inquiry and research.  I think the time for that is drawing to a close. Now we need to push towards an integrity-based civilization.
I’ll leave you with the words and teaching of the late Sioux Elder, Floyd “Red Crow” Westerman. If you can, watch the whole series.

Messages from Dreamland

dreamer

I can be a really bad chronicler at times. Countless spiritual traditions tell us that many of us get messages from the Spirit World every night in our sleep through or dreams and that it’s a question of training ourselves of writing everything down when we wake up while the details are still fresh in our mind.

 Sleep
I’ve tried. I just can’t do it since I am not and never will be a morning person. My biorhythms veer towards the evening and night so come morning time, I’m too groggy and busy stumbling towards my morning cup of tea, never mind whipping out a notebook and remembering last night’s adventures in dreamland.

However, I have had incidences of wicked deja-vu. Seeing something which, upon reflection, was something I already saw in the dream state a few days earlier.  I’ve also been lucky in the sense that I’ve never had nightmares. Maybe when I was a kid and watched too many Godzilla or Ray Harryhausen movies and would run into my parents’ room in the middle of the night but beyond that, I can’t complain.
This caused nightmares when I was 5

This caused nightmares when I was like, 5 years old

One writer who has admitted that she was regularly blessed with beautiful dreams was the Danish writer, Isak Dinesen aka Baroness Karen Blixen. Blixen was the author of such classics like “Out of Africa” and “Babette’s Feast”  and if you love to read good literature as much as I do, those two are “musts” (and the film versions do no justice to them at all).
Isak Dinesen, at a younger time in her life

Isak Dinesen, at a younger time in her life

This is a strong dream-like quality to her writing, particularly in it’s richness and if you read her body of work like “Anecdotes of Destiny” or “Seven Gothic Tales”, it’s easy to see how coming out of her books is like waking up from a beautiful dream. In my opinion, even if she just wrote 7 books, she was robbed of the Nobel Prize in Literature, the first time by another big-game hunter, Ernest Hemingway, who even admitted to her, that she deserved it more than he did and the second time by Albert Camus.

I bring up Blixen because of an incident she recounted in her novella, “Shadows on the Grass” :
When in the thirties I was staying in the south of England with Denys’ (Finch-Hatton) brother, the Earl of Winchilsea, the painter John (Glyn Warren) Philpot came down to paint the portrait of my hostess, who was very lovely.  He had travelled much in North Africa, and on an afternoon when we were walking together in the park he recounted to me an experience of his from there.
Kirby Hall, Home of the Earls of Winchelsea

Kirby Hall, Home of the Earls of Winchelsea

In the First World War, he said, he had had a shell-shock or a nervous breakdown; he would never feel sure that he was doing what he ought to do.

“When I was painting a picture,” he explained,” I felt that I ought to make up my bank account. When I was making up my bank account, I felt that I ought to go out for a walk. And when in a long walk, I had got five miles away from home, I realized that I ought to be , at this very moment, in front of my easel. I was constantly in flight, an exile everywhere.

Morrocan village

Moroccan village

“It happened by then that I and my African servant in our travels in Morocco came to a small town or village. I cannot really describe the place to you, it looked like any other North African village. It stood in a flat plain, and in itself, was nothing but a number of mud-built huts with an old, broad mud-built wall round it. The only particular thing that I remember about it is its great multitude of storks, a stork’s nest on almost every house. But at that moment when I had come through the gate in the wall,  felt that this was a place of refuge. There came upon me a strange, blissful, calm, a happiness like what you feel when a high fever leaves you. “Here”, I thought, “one can remain.”  “And as now I had stayed in the village for a fortnight, all the time in that same sweet peace of soul and giving no thought to the past or the future, on a day when I was once more painting a picture, an old man, am imam , came up and spoke to me.”I hear from your servant,” he said,”that  you have finished your wanderings and will stay with us, since here you have found rest.” I answered him that it was as he said, but that I could not explain to myself why it should be so.

“Master,” said the old man,” I shall explain to you. There is something special about our village, things have happened here that have happened nowhere else. It came about, not when I was a boy myself but when my father was a boy of twelve, and he has related it to me as it happened. Turn your eyes to the gate in the wall behind us. Above it you will see a ledge, where two men can sit, for in the old days watchmen were here looking out for foes that might approach across the plain. To this very ledge above the gate, came the Prophet (Mohammed) himself and your Prophet, Jesus Christ. They met here to talk together of man’s lot on Earth and the means by which the people of the earth might be helped. Those standing down below could not hear what they said to one another. But they could see the Prophet, as he explained his thoughts, striking his hand against his knee, and thereupon  Jesus Christ lifting his hand and answering him. They sat there, deep in talk, till night fell and the people could no longer see them. And it is from that time Master, that our village has got peace of heart to give away. “I wonder,” said Mr. Philpot, “whether a clergyman from the Church of England would have told that tale.”

Like I wrote earlier, I ‘m very bad at recalling my dreams. With few exceptions, there have been times which an entire letter with the most perfect wording was suddenly sitting in my head, a crucial letter which I needed to send to someone. Or plans I needed to act on immediately. I had one dream while I was living in Turkey which I still cannot forget. It was *that* vivid and *that* real and sitting down to write it, came effortlessly. I don’t know what it means, but there is a symbolic message there and like Dinesen’s excerpt above, the similarities are obvious.

March 12, 2001

I dreamt that dozens of people saw Muhammad AND Jesus in Central Park, New York City at the same time, at two different ends of the park.

stock-footage-aerial-panorama-view-central-park-manhattan-new-york

The group of people who saw Muhammad, saw him walk on water and apparently he had all the signs of being *the* Muhammad, according to one eyewitness, who himself was an Islamic scholar and a devout one at that. His name was Aziz, I think. Suddenly, tents were going up on the spot he had been and all the witnesses, Muslim and non-Muslim alike, suddenly had become men and women of contemplation. They renounced their old lives as businesspeople, students, whatever, to merely devote their life to study and think about the Infinite.

As for the other, second group that saw Jesus, well this being New York City in the 21st century, needless to say these are people who are a little aggressive, jaded, cynical and sceptical.   So they needed stronger proof than walking on water. There was a rain of coins, twice. The first time, the coins were a coppery colour, but they were not pennies. They were Abraham Lincoln two-dollar coins, a very , very limited rare edition. That wasn’t enough proof. Then there was a second rain, this time of platinum coins. It was a Jefferson three-dollar coin which has never been made in the first place. Finally everyone caught on, it really was Jesus, but like Muhammad, the two of them disappeared as mysteriously as they appeared.

060_CoinsRainUmbrella_704x395

In my dream, I showed up in the park immediately after the incidents, I didn’t see the actual events. It was not quite yet pandamonium with religious fanatics, the clergy, scientists and reporters but the build-up of the oncoming media frenzy had just started. The park was already full of hundreds of people, onlookers and curiosity mongers, people running everywhere, crying, laughing, chaos.

ny_central_park

I remember walking down one path and seeing these two hacky-sack looking guys, sitting cross-legged on the grass merely staring at the two stacks of coins they had collected in front of them, one stack of each denomination. The guys were totally out of it, in a daze. I looked at each coin. They were real alright, but somehow they looked like they were already starting to melt.

Go with The Flow

Surely, We have sent revelation to thee, as We sent revelation to Noah and the Prophets after him; and We sent revelation to Abraham and Ishmael and Isaac and Jacob and his children and to Jesus and Job and Jonah and Aaron and Solomon, and We gave David a Book. We sent some Messengers whom We have already mentioned to thee and some Messengers whom We have not mentioned to thee …” (Koran, Ch.4 v.164, 165)

“Verily, We have sent thee with the truth, as a bearer of glad tidings and as a Warner; and there is no people to whom a Warner has not been sent.” (Koran, Ch.35 v.25″)

I have to admit that I actually don’t have a lot of other Bengali/Indian/Pakistani  Muslim friends.
While I did grow up in a largely non-orthodox Muslim household, being Bengali meant that many of my parents’ close friends were and are Hindu, and it meant absolutely nothing out of the ordinary for us to go over to their homes for various Puja celebrations or having them come over to our place for Ramadan
Breaking the Ramadan fast

Breaking the Ramadan fast

That’s not always the norm in many Bengali Muslim homes. In fact, there was anti-Hindu bigotry right in my own family. Several of my more “hard-core Muslim” uncles would forbid their kids (i.e my cousins) to play with us because they feared our family would have a “bad influence on them”.
Just cause a girl wears shorts, does that make them a "bad influence"?

Just because a girl wears shorts, does that make them a “bad influence”?

The sources of that bigotry are many and it easy to see why so many hard feelings developed over the course of time. The British effectively ruled India by pitting Muslims and Hindus against each from Day 1. Divide and rule was official policy. While the British were there, preferential treatment was given to Muslims because it was an Abrahamic religion they could relate to, hence why Muslims got the choicest jobs and opportunities. When the British left, the tables were completely turned around, communal fighting broke out all over India, Muslims were discriminated against and Hindus went to the top of the power structure.

This is an excellent video about Partition, about how India and Pakistan were formed after British rule. While the video talks about what was happening on the Western front, please bear in mind the atrocities were also happening on the eastern front, namely West Bengal and East Bengal (—> which became East Pakistan and then finally, Bangladesh).

I bring up the quotes from the Koran because, really what those quotes are saying is that named and unnamed prophets, teachers, seers, sages, wise and holy men and women have been sent to all people of this world, every creed, every color, of all lands, at all times and that Muslims are to revere and respect them all, no exceptions. This includes First Nations Elders, Australian Aboriginal Elders, Mongolian shamans,  Buddhist bodhisattvas, Gnostic Christian spiritual masters and anyone else who has genuine spiritual insight and can teach us all to become better human beings with wisdom and grace.
 KW_FeaturedIMages_Hopi
This sense of inclusiveness and plurality is unfortunately missing with many of the Muslims I grew up with and knew (which would probably explain why I don’t get along with many of them).  Rather, a certain rigidity in outlook, a sanctimoniousness and belief has set in and with the money from Saudi being poured into the rest of the Muslim world.  It has unfortunately meant that Wahhabi Islam, an extremely puritanical, minor, rigid and monolithic form of Islam native to Saudi Arabia is also spreading. It’s a “Live by the Sword – Die by the Sword” form of Islam which in my opinion,  is completely against life and sucks royally and anyone with even half a functioning brain would be wise to run away from.
These guys and their ideology DO NOT represent all Muslims

These guys and their ideology DO NOT represent all Muslims

What’s also happening is that very poor, migrant workers from countries like Bangladesh, Indonesia and Pakistan are going to the United Arab Emirates to work as cheap laborers for construction companies.
Many of them are illiterate, not educated and completely ignorant about the history of their own countries, cultures and religions. Many of them don’t realize that there was a history in those areas long before the introduction of Islam. They see the vulgar wealth in the UAE and it’s then very easy to develop an inferiority complex in the face of that wealth and power especially in contrast to what they saw and lived through back home. What then happens is that they start using Islam and faux-piety as a form of showing up who is “more Muslim” and then that Wahhabi Islam then becomes something worth emulating, copying and spreading.
201352051829596734_20

If you went to Bangladesh in the 1970s and 1980s, you would never see a burqa or hijab on the streets. Women were always in saris and salwar kameez and were considered decently dressed according to Islamic norms.
saree_group
You go to Bangladesh now, and hijabs and burqas are everywhere. When I talk to my Turkish friends, they say the same thing is also happening in Turkey.
This is NOT the way it used to be.

This is NOT the way it used to be.

It’s not just dress that’s being affected.
Take for instance female genital mutilation which is NOT an Islamic practice, but one rather which is from  sub-Saharan Africa and became incorporated into those cultures, primarily Somali and Eritrean. When Islam was introduced to those areas, cultural and religious practices became fused and suddenly it was an “Islamic” practice. Now the practice is being exported to other countries like Malaysia under the guise of “Islam” when it has exactly zero to do with Islam.
Female-circumcision-006
This is my biggest axe to grind with many in the South East Asian Muslim community. Nobody flippin’ questions or investigates anything. They just internalize whatever their parents and grandparents told them and that’s it. I remember once having a conversation with one of my cousins’ husband. Dude has a PhD in Biochemistry so he’s not exactly dumb. However, he is from the village in Bangladesh, was extremely bright, did well in school, got full scholarship and landed in the USA and completed graduate work there. We were discussing the very Koranic verses I cited above and hence why I read so much about other traditions. His response is that was “you don’t need to understand Buddhism. You don’t need it. Who cares?”
6a00d83451bd1369e2017d3de2b8c6970c
It was a repudiation of Buddhism. It was a mechanical, pragmatic way of looking at the world and a deliberate method to staying ignorant and comfortable in a narrow worldview represented by his upbringing and socialization. It was also a slap in the face to my world view which is expansive and inclusive. (I should add, I can’t stand the guy and neither does most of my family.)
It’s not just Muslims who are like this. I mean we can point the finger at the Christian Right in the United States or Hindu radicals in India. That rigidity is everywhere. My only wish is that people everywhere become more fluid and accepting, like a stream or a river.
Afterall, isn’t it the Chinese who believe that water is the strongest element, capable of changing the earth itself?

Racism and the Occult

I don’t know if any of you have read this recent article from Salon.com about how some occult teachings influenced  neo-conservative saint, the former American President Ronald Reagan.
ronald_reagan_ranch-620x412
For the record, I couldn’t stand the guy. I thought there was something smarmy about him, to say nothing of the way he bloodily interfered with Central America, Libya, Grenada and Panama. Conservatives these days deify him for “ending the Cold War” when  Mikhail Gorbachev  had a lot to do with it as well.
Reagan was also quite a fascist. When students sat in The People’s Park in Berkeley, California during the 1969 student demonstrations, Reagan (who was then state governor) had state troopers sent in to make sure they got the message to leave. He cut funding to all mental health institutions and hospitals and kicked out all the patients, which increased homeless numbers dramatically in cities like Washington D.C.  The list of things he did which hurt people as opposed to helping them goes on and on.
You can thank ole Ronnie for this....

You can thank ole Ronnie for this….

Anyway, it turns out Reagan’s “sunny optimism” of America, as the Land of Destiny with some mysterious mission for humanity has its origins in the writings of noted occultist Manly Palmer Hall.
Hall, wrote his magnum opus “The Secret Teachings of all Ages”  at the age of 27 and went on to found the Philosophical Research Society in Los Angeles, a hot-bed and library for New Age thinkers and influenced practically every single flaky Californian New Age/New Thought writer from North America for decades afterwards including Linda Goodman and more recently, Kathleen McGowan-Coppens.
Manly Palmer Hall. Does this look like a happy, wise man to you? (Is dude wearing eyeliner?)

Manly Palmer Hall. Does this look like a happy, wise man to you? (Is dude wearing eyeliner?)

The gist of Hall’s “vision” of America is this: America is the New Atlantis, the souls who are born or find themselves immigrating to North America are reincarnated Atlanteans and that Americans in particular have a sacred duty to realize that “anything is possible” (even while being female and living on minimum wage I guess) and that their own potentiality is only limited by their drive ( so in other words lack of “drive”, makes you a failure as a human being). That America is destined to live out the fate of Atlantis as it should have been, not as it was. This is what Freemasons, Rosicrucians have also been saying for ages as well. It’s nothing new. It also falls in line with the American idea of “Manifest Destiny”, an expansionist policy which they used to justify the Mexican War and expand westwards and slaughtered tribe after tribe of Native Americans to do it. (I always wondered what the Native Americans have to say or think about this bullshit since all this happened at their expense….)
"Go West young man!"

“Go West young man!”

Hall isn’t the only unconscious-bigot in spiritual literature.
Helena Blavatsky, the founder of the Theosophical Society also wrote about “root races” and how the white race were of the “fifth root race” and that the black, red, yellow and brown peoples were of inferior races.

Dion Fortune, even as gifted a writer and occultist as she was, also had the tinge of bigotry in some of her writings which even contemporary occultists like Judika Iles have noted. Fortune was convinced the Western Esoteric tradition was far superior to the “mysticism of Asia”, never mind the fact that ancient Greece and Egypt (the origins of “Western” mysticism ) were actually mingling with Indians, Middle Easterns, Africans and Chinese much more than historians would like you to think).

Even Linda Goodman, when she came up with Lexigrams was convinced that the supremacy of the English language was protected by language elves and Lexigrams could only be done with English names, when she literally never traveled outside the English-speaking world in her life and was completely unilingual and had no knowledge of other languages and therefore never even tried Lexigrams with other languages. Goodman even went so far as to say that the “Higher Selves” of the Native Americans agreed to die and give up the land because their Higher Selves understood the special destiny of America in her book “Star Signs”! I wonder, did the Tibetans do the same thing when the Chinese showed up?

Does anyone see a pattern here?
Hall was Canadian by birth and became American by choice, Blavatsky was Russian, Steiner was German, Fortune was British and they all were writing during the tail-end of the colonial and imperial age of Europe, namely the late 19th to mid 20th century when racist and condescending attitudes towards “conquered colonies and peoples” were prevalent and socially acceptable.

Because Europe and North America was awash in wealth from the colonies, this exaggerated their sense of entitlement and sense of identity, that Fate had something special which was destined for them and them alone, (how else could they be so affluent if it weren’t for Fate giving it to them?) was everywhere and it petered down even into spiritual writings. From there it starts to influence the Ronald Reagans of this world and becomes a “spiritual” excuse for Anglo-American European supremacy.

So when you get a Ronald Reagan-type  showing up and spouting this gibberish about America’s date with destiny (or any other American president talking about “American exceptionalism”) or some groups talking about being “The Chosen People”, automatically your antennas should be going up.

Why is this sort of exclusionary language and groupthink dangerous?
God Made Me Special
Because when people think they’re special or better than others, they unfortunately have a nasty habit of beginning to feel entitled to anything and everything they want at any and all expense, it means that everyone else who ISN’T in that group is therefore expendable, disposable, negligible and less-worthy than…and therefore you’re allowed to treat them in ways you don’t want to be treated yourself.
And in my book that breaks the first rule of any true civilisation.

Why I Am No Longer a Light Worker

This is a must-read article from Cameron Day over at www.ascensionhelp.com and perfectly encapsulates why the New Age/'Lightworkers"/Channeled Ascended masters crew are all full of malarky and is actually another facet of this reality hack. It also points out that many of the Abrahamic, partriarchial religions who have set up the world in binary form (good vs. evil, black vs. white, us vs. them) are also playing into the reality hack.I don't agree with every last thing Cameron wrote here but the most important point here is that the secret is to TRANSCEND both sides and see things clearly for what they are. Cameron already bolded his emphasis, I'll place mine (in red italicized brackets) ==================================================================

Why I Am No Longer a Light Worker

By Cameron Day, on August 23rd, 2013

No, I haven’t turned to the dark-side, but rather I am transcending sides.  This article is probably the most important piece I have written to date, and in order to convey the full message, a bit of back-story is necessary. Hang in there with me, and by the end you will understand why I will never call myself a “lightworker” again.

Planet Earth and much of our corner of the universe has been under a spell for a very long time, a spell which casts doubt within our minds about whether or not we are connected with the Infinite Source of all creation. The spell causes us to feel alone, vulnerable and isolated – cast out from the Heavenly Realms into a cruel, dog-eat-dog world.  This spell is pure fiction, a deception of the highest order, but it has taken hold deeply on this and other worlds.

Intrinsic within this holographic spell is the notion that duality and polarity are natural aspects of life, and that we must serve one side of duality or the other. This elegantly simple binary imprint has become so prominent that we have lost sight of the larger holographic spell that spawned it.  Indeed, we have lost sight of the hologram all together, and come to believe that it is the sum total of reality.

Humans have been conditioned to worship the holographic deception and the agents that perpetuate it.  This hologram has been called Maya by the Hindus, and the Gnostics referred to it as the Corrupt Demiurge. I find this term a highly accurate description, and from the point forward I will refer to it as the corrupt demiurge.

Dark vs (False) Light – Duality of the Demiurge

In order to capture and control the widest possible spectrum of souls, the corrupt demiurge split its agents into two seemingly opposing teams:  Dark vs (false) Light.

yinyang2 Why I Am No Longer a Light Worker

Not everyone can be a saint, so there must be room for sinners within the demiurge, as long as everyone involved is under its spell.  What matters most to the demiurge is that we worship it or one of its agents, regardless if they are on the light team or the dark team.

There are many names of the players within this cosmic, multi-dimensional drama that you will have no doubt heard of such as:  Lucifer, Jehova, Beelzebub, Arch Angel Michael, Satan (different dude than Lucifer), Ashtar, dozens of Arch(on) angels, supposedly ascended “masters” and various other channeled entities.

While some of these beings play for team dark, and some play for team (false) light, they are ALL ultimately playing for the corrupt demiurge that controls them. This, in essence, is the big secret of the archons:  They are not just the “evil, demonic beings” but also those who pretend to be angels and ascended masters..

What is the Point of All This Control?

The corrupt demiurge is an entropic system of artificially-induced separation consciousness that is slowly dying, and it depends on harvesting the energy from the souls incarnated within its system in order to preserve its existence. In order to harvest the largest amount of soul energy possible, it created the dark-light duality paradigm to ensure that every being incarnated on a world that is under its spell would serve as a “soul battery” to help keep the demiurge energized.  The “good” souls would seek out the (false) light team, and the “bad” souls would seek out the dark team, but unknown to most of those souls, they are all serving the same system.

In order to keep the duality game interesting for its participants, the demiurge set up densities of existence that “initiates” on the dark and light paths could ascend through.  This gives the beings moving through these densities a feeling of accomplishment, when in fact they are navigating through a labyrinth of demiurgic illusion. The players at the higher levels of the hierarchies know that they are in a self-serving system, but they are fine with the deal, because they get to wield power and receive the energy of worship from beings further down the ladder.

What About the “Spiritual Hierarchy?”

archonangels2 Why I Am No Longer a Light Worker

Most channeled beings will claim to be affiliated with the (false) light-based “Spiritual Hierarchy” which includes “arch angels,” “ascended masters” and “positive ETs.”  These channeled messages are a dime-a-thousand, and more keep pouring out every day.  The dirty little secret is that these beings are beholden to the corrupt demiurge, and are waging a psychological battle on people that don’t want to be associated with any formal religious structure.

In other words, the “new age” is a multidmeinsional psychological operation designed to channel the soul energy of the “believers” of these teachings up to the “ascended” teachers.

Another one of their secrets is that most of the so-called “ascended masters” in their “hierarchy” never had a human incarnation.  These are incredibly deceptive beings that are playing a game in order to garner the energy of worship. In the real universe of non-deception, nobody would worship them, but in the illusory “sub-universe” of the corrupt demiurge, they are able to trick good-hearted people into pouring energies of love, devotion and praise into them.

As for the “arch(on) angels” they are in more or less the same category.  They are not aligned with the Infinite Source of all creation, but rather they serve a lesser being posing as the creator: the corrupt demiurge. Therefore they are not what I would call angels at all.

In honor of the truly deceptive nature of these beings, I have given them a new, more accurate title:  The Spiritual Liar-archy.  icon smile Why I Am No Longer a Light Worker

The Dark Side Makes the False Light Look Good

angeldemon2 Why I Am No Longer a Light Worker

The two teams have to play their parts convincingly, and the dark team has really embraced their role as villainous scum ready to kill, rape, torture and do any sort of depraved thing that they can get away with.

The dark side is designed to be incredibly repugnant so that the majority of “good souls” will run to the other end of polarity, right into the “loving” embrace of one of the false light’s patriarchal religions, or to their new age religion with its legion of channels and “masters.”

Earth has been a difficult planet for the corrupt demiurge to fully control.  Human beings were once very aware of their connection to Infinite Source and all of life, and that awareness has been maintained by spiritual individuals throughout the entire reign of darkness on this planet. Because this awareness could not be “beaten out of us” by the dark forces, a plan was formed to co-opt the spiritual nature of human beings.

First, patriarchal religions were formed and imposed on as many people of the world as possible.  Anyone who didn’t adhere to one of the major religions was an outcast for much of history, until the last century when the “Theosophist movement” was born, which set the foundation for the “new age movement” to emerge in the 50s, 60s and 70s. The new age movement has continued to gain momentum as it has attracted many of the people who turned away from the hypocrisy of patriarchal religion.

The corrupt demiurge seems to have an “easy answer” for any of the inner turmoil that humans experience.  If religion doesn’t serve to appease an individual, then the new age will do just fine.  It’s all the same to the demiurge, as long as we “pick a side” that it controls.  This is why we need to transcend sides all together.

Channelers Are Being Deceived

I wrote an article back in 2011 about some of the problems with channeled messages, which you can find here for more background information.  If religion can be said to be “the opiate of the masses” then channeled messages would be the “HOPIUM of the disgruntled minority.” Every channeled message that comes from the spiritual liar-archy is essentially the same when you strip away the fluffy talk and story-line that is being used to couch the message.

Here is every channeled message ever done, condensed into a few lines:

Dear ones, you are greatly beloved by all of us in the spiritual (liar)archy. We long to reunite with you, for we are your long-lost family.  Stay strong and hold onto your light, because we will make our presence known to you soon. Keep waiting (and suffering) and hoping for us to come and rescue you from your situation.  When we arrive, we will build a golden (c)age for you on earth.”

I used to think that this nauseating disinformation coming from “Archon Angel Michael,” “Saint Germain” etc was the result of dark-side interference taking over the channels without their awareness. What I didn’t understand back when I wrote “Who’s Really on This Channel” is that transmissions from “truly positive beings” weren’t being intercepted and corrupted by the dark side, but rather the messages were coming from “false light” beings of the spiritual liar-archy.

“Light Workers” Are Being Thoroughly Used

angelbully Why I Am No Longer a Light Worker

Back in 1998 when I first got into the energy clearing genre, the term “lightworker” didn’t exist.  It appeared some time in the early 2000s, and it sounded weird to me the first time I heard it.  Now I understand why:  because the “light” that the spiritual liar-archy is trying to get us to work for is the FALSE light of demiurgic duality!

You see, there is a massive effort underway by beings that I now call “Divine Agents” to completely obliterate the corrupt demiurge. When that happens, all of the beings who have gained power through the demiurge will lose that stolen power and will have to face up to the deceptions that they have been propagating.  None of them want that to happen, so in their cleverness they devised a brilliant plan to undermine the entire effort.

The plan was simple:  Approach all incarnated Divine Agents, usually in a dream state but sometimes during an “ET abduction” scenario, and tell them that in order to fulfill their mission, they need to “work for the (false) light” and take orders from the spiritual liar-archy.

This plan worked AMAZINGLY well, largely because Divine Agents have had a hard time living on Earth.  Societies here are badly warped, spirituality is twisted and abused, the vibrational density is heavy, our memories are mostly wiped, and we generally would rather NOT be here.  So any being that emanated light (even false light) and love could make a Divine Agent feel like they were making valid contact with truly divine beings.

I still remember my own recruitment by the false light that occurred when I was 6 years old in an extremely vivid dream-time experience.  They had me convinced that I was fulfilling my mission as a Divine Agent by working for them.  I think they always knew I would figure them out, although it took a very, very long time.

Ever Wake Up More Tired Than When You Went To Sleep?

(I thought I was the only one feeling this?)

Many Divine Agents who were recruited as light-workers report that they wake up more tired than when they went to bed, and their “dreams” were full of battles.  During these “dream missions” the spiritual liar-archy squeezes those they control of as much energy as they can. You may wake up with memories of having gone on missions to battle the dark, but the end result is that your body, mind and soul are depleted of energy which was harvested by the (false) light beings.

A few months ago I revoked ALL agreements made with any and all beings that did not have my best interests in mind, no matter WHO the beings were or claimed to be. It sounds like such a simple thing, but somehow I had overlooked it.  During the process, I felt resistance from beings who were claiming to be positive, but I stood strong and told them that I refuse to be manipulated into giving energy to the demiurge.

This has given me the distinct privilege of being targeted by both the dark team (ankle biters) and the (false) light team (spiritual liar-archy).  The (false) light team does indeed engage in psychic warfare, just in different, more subtle ways than their “dark” brethren. Deflecting these attacks has been worth it because I know that I am more aligned with my true mission to put an end to the demiurge without being side-tracked into duality battles.

It is also very nice knowing I am going to get a good night’s sleep when I go to bed because I am not going to be pulled into any ridiculous “missions to battle the dark” that the (false) light beings are so fond of setting up for their “light workers.”  (That phrase actually creeps me out now that I know its true origins…)

What Was That About a Golden (C)age?

goldencage Why I Am No Longer a Light Worker

The false light beings working for the corrupt demiurge want to maintain their control over the human race.  Our soul energy and agreements to live in our current cage empowers the demiurge and the beings that serve it, and they are not going to give that energy up easily.

We are, at this very moment, in a struggle for our freedom.  The spiritual liar-archy wants to move us from our current, extremely uncomfortable cage into a slightly more expansive state of existence, but one that they are firmly in control of.

One metaphor to describe our current situation is that we are like a flock of chickens pent up inside a tiny, dark, smelly chicken coop.  Those that have been farming us are preparing to let us out of the coop, and into a larger fenced-in area where we will be able to feel a little more free, but still within their control. This is the “farmer’s” way of ensuring that they can continue to feed off of our energies, while making us feel that we are free, thanks to the kindness of our captors.

The “spiritual” liar-archy does not want us to grow on our own to a place of self-empowerment that will allow us to simply walk away from their entire control system. This is why the channeled messages subtly disempowers people, while pretending to actually offer them an empowering solution.  As long as we are sitting and waiting for “the good guys” to come and save us, we will not be able to discern who truly has our best interests at heart, nor will we be able to actually fix our own problems for ourselves.

Solutions for the Duality Afflicted

buddha02 Why I Am No Longer a Light Worker

So how does a person get out of this duality paradigm?  The first step is to engage the Self-Clearing System protocols and revoke all agreements that you have made with any beings that don’t have your best interests in mind. Next, revoke all agreements to see reality in polarized terms. Every time you revoke agreements, be sure to reclaim your energy that had gone into them. Then affirm your commitment to transcend the control paradigms of the corrupt demiurge without being side-tracked by pointless polarity battles. (most important bit)

I also recommend a brief daily practice of revoking all agreements to experience hardship, limitation, bad relationships, health problems, financial problems, family dysfunctions, and anything else in your life that is energy-draining. The number and quantity of agreements that we have unconsciously taken on within this false reality matrix are truly astounding.  When you pay attention to the subtle and blatant agreements that point to the invisible bars of your prison, you will indeed find that there is no shortage of agreements to be revoked.

After you have engaged this process, you may notice less “contact” from the false light beings, and you might feel a little lonely until you get used to the changes.  This is a very good time to strengthen your connection to your own Higher Self, the core of Earth and the Galactic core. As you adjust, you may notice better sleep and a sense that you can see through deceptions disguised with positivity more easily.

If you do get contact from a being, you can tell it that you are only willing to communicate with beings who have transcended duality and are outside of the corrupt demiurge.  Put any being trying to contact you to the test.  Question them point-blank:  “Are you part of the demiurge?” The beings of True Divine Light who exist outside of the demiurge, in the Real Universe will happily answer your questions.  Just be aware that they don’t speak in language the same way that we do, as they communicate with what I call “soul telepathy.”

Type of Communication Is a Major Indicator

The Forces of True Divine Light that exist outside of the corrupt demiurge are not bound by the left-brain right-brain dynamics and dark-light polarities that define the demiurgic sub-universe.  This means that they do NOT sound like a voice in your head! Instead, they use “soul telepathy” to emanate feelings, archetypal expressions, and an extremely pure quality of light that speaks directly to your soul. (ditto)

The difference between a being of True Divine Light and one of the false light spiritual liar-archy beings is that the former’s light is warm, enveloping, pure and unconditionally loving, whereas the latter’s light is cool, piercing in an uncomfortable way, dominant and often overly-masculine. (please re-read that sentence) The spiritual liar-archy is a male-dominated group, and even the females within their power structure have a very masculine energy.  This male-domination is, of course, why the religious structures the liar-archy enabled all have a domineering male god, and no mention of an all-encompassing, feminine creator.

Another major difference between false light beings within the demiurge and beings of True Divine Light who are aligned with Infinite Source is that the Divine Light is not controlling, manipulative, bossy or judgmental in any way. Infinite Source will NOT impose an agenda upon you, although it will support you in your chosen mission to help dismantle the corrupt demiurge.  You won’t be given “marching orders” by Infinite Source or beings of True Divine Light who operate outside of the demiurge.  They won’t send you on endless, energy-draining missions in your dream-time, and they won’t ask you to do something that will result in loss of your soul energy, unlike the imposters in the false-light spiritual liar-archy.

The beings of True Divine Light are supportive, loving, nurturing, and they care about you as an individual.  You are not just a cog in a machine to them, for they understand that you are a vitally important aspect of an intricately interconnected creation. They have the utmost respect for those of us who volunteered to incarnate into the “beast system” of the corrupt demiurge in order to help dismantle it from the inside.  Indeed, there must be Divine Agents working both from within and outside of the corrupt demiurge in order to dismantle it.

Discernment is Vital

purple gold flush2 Why I Am No Longer a Light Worker

I will be writing more on this topic and its many implications.  In the mean time, I urge you to drastically increase skepticism and fine-tune your discernment.  Apply your intuition and logic to information that you receive, and ask yourself “what is the agenda here?” There is indeed a very large, multi-dimensional “conspiracy” at work on this planet, and it draws power from us by pushing us into one spectrum of polarity or another.  Anyone urging you to “choose a side” simply hasn’t woken up to the fact that both sides are two halves of the same coin that is controlled by the corrupt demiurge.

I urge you to discuss these ideas with those close to you and look for ways that you may have been manipulated by the false light in the past.  It’s nothing to be ashamed of – the false light beings are amazingly skilled liars and manipulators.

Most of you reading this have already chosen to be a Divine Agent and incarnate for the purpose of dismantling the demiurgic control system.  You have already made your choice, and now you need to carry out your individual mission.  In order to do that, it is vitally important to sever all ties with the false-light “spiritual” liar-archy, take some time to regain energy and strength if necessary, and ask your Divine Inner Self to reveal to you what it is that you specifically need to do.

Stand strong in the true light of your Divine Inner Self and Infinite Source.

Much Love,
Cameron Day

Reading People and Places on Multiple Channels

jonbenet ramsey family photo

Jon Benet Ramsey and her family

Have you ever had the experience when you met someone, talked to someone or even just by looking at a photo of someone that even though on the surface, everything looks normal, legit and not particularly remarkable, you can’t shake the feeling that there is something else going on as well, underneath the surface, behind the scenes, out of view, that there is something you can’t quite put your finger on logically, but a nagging feeling that won’t leave you alone that something is “off”?

Lady Barbara Judge. With legit credentials up the wazoo, when you look at this person, do you feel any warmth at all or do feel like a cold draft suddenly went down your neck?

Lady Barbara Judge. With legit credentials up the wazoo, when you look at this person, do you feel any warmth at all or do feel like a cold draft suddenly went down your neck?

I always get that feeling when I interact with or watch straight-laced, conservative types or when I walk around cookie-cutter suburban subdivision developments, identical houses, with identical lawns. Everything is a little “too” perfect. Like Twin Peaks.

Creepy as hell, if you ask me

Creepy as hell, if you ask me

Scratch the surface a little and all manner of stuff suddenly comes running out of the woodwork. Films which really hits on this suburban duplicity are Todd Solondz‘s works, particularly “Happiness”.

One of the most twisted, hilarious and gut wrenching films I've ever sen.

One of the most twisted, hilarious and gut wrenching films I’ve ever seen.

It sounds worse than it really it, but Solondz manages to showcase the darker side of suburban America with topics like pedophilia and suburban neuroses with equal measures of heart-breaking tragedy, hilarity and even cheesy songs by Air Supply. I find Solondz to be a strange paradox in Hollywood terms, he’s the director no one will ever talk about in the mainstream press or within industry trade papers, yet he has a fanatical cult following including A-list Hollywood stars who sign up in droves to star in his films with substantial pay-cuts. Not because they want to be in his movie, but because the material is that interesting, that original and that challenging. In other words, stuff the studios will never touch.

John Goodman in "Storytelling". Other people who have starred in Solondz's films include Ellen Barkin, Christopher Walken, Mia Farrow and Selma Blair.

I remember I had one university professor in particular, the very mold of the upright family man, respected academic, quite popular on campus too, droves of girls were and still are after him. Every time I was around him, I couldn’t get past the feeling that there was a slimy layer of filth around him…somewhere. He never said anything bad, he never did anything sleazy and in fact if you were to look at his photos and his website, everything looks legit and in order. But for whatever reason, whenever I was in his presence, I always felt like there was some kind of psychic vampirism going on and taking place on some level and that there was much more going on underneath the surface which I couldn’t see. A strong sense of duplicity. I always felt terribly weakened afterwards, never good.

As far as I’m concerned, all psychic vampires need a good, swift kick in the pants

As far as I’m concerned, all psychic vampires need a good, swift kick in the pants

I recently had a reading with well-known UK-based psychic who I shall call C.C which was beyond fantastic. C.C works closely with David Icke and Bill Ryan of Project Camelot fame and this was one reading which had me in tears. I’ve had enough readings in my life to know when someone is just making garbage up or if someone is the real deal and C.C within the first 2 minutes floored me with what she picked up about me.

truth

My reading with C.C made me think about all the snake-oil salesmen out there, the delusional channelers, the fake psychics, the lame tarot card readers, plastic shamans, who claim to read the ethers. This cartoon from cult TV show “Home Movies” pretty much sums up most of my feelings and impressions about these types of personalities:

Many books and motivational speakers say that we all have these talents, even if they are dormant for 99.99% of the population out there. I’m certainly not psychic but I’ve had my share of sudden lightning flashes of intuition which zig-zagged out of nowhere, where I can be hyper-intuitive about people who are close to me or those I decide to zero-in on.

Intuition

I’m also ultra-sensitive when it comes to reading the energy of a particular place or landscape, a skill which was taught to me by my first teacher in Cappadocia (and in hindsight, probably the best place on earth to learn such skills). I normally don’t consult tarot cards or deal with runes and such. I do however use the Sabian Symbols Oracle card system, a system which has it’s origins in ancient Mesopotamia and Babylon but has been interpreted with modern day symbols and visuals. The story of how they came to be is rather fascinating if anyone is interested.

This book is fantastic

This book is fantastic

My point is that “reading” can take place outside of a book. It’s about the feeling in your gut. It’s about observing and recording your feelings and impressions when you interact with a person or place, before, during and after. It’s about looking past the obvious towards the periphery. It’s about reading between the lines and listening to what’s NOT said. It’s about observing your nerves and watching which direction they twitch in. Sometimes, things magically come together and BINGO! That flash of intuition appears, a sudden and complete knowing, no doubt, just a sure sense of certainty. And that’s when you really come into contact with your own soul, something which every human being deserves.

Spiritual trendiness

Joseph Campbell

Joseph Campbell

“When you find an author who really grabs you, read everything he has done. Don’t say, ‘Oh, I want to know what So-and-so did’ — and don’t bother at all with the best-seller list. Just read what this one author has to give you. And then you can go read what he had read. And the world opens up in a way that is consistent with a certain point of view. But when you go from one author to another, you may be able to tell us the date when each wrote such and such a poem — but he hasn’t said anything to you.”
– Joseph Campbell

Rumi's grave (May eternal peace be upon him)

Rumi’s grave (May eternal peace be upon him)

I remember while in Turkey, taking a long weekend off of work to journey to Konya to watch the Whirling Dervishes, the mystical Islamic Sufi order established by Jalaluddin Rumi (or Mevlana as he is known by in Turkey), dance the Sema dance and to visit Rumi’s grave. I’m sure you’ve seen in either in ads or commercials or documentaries.

To outsiders who don’t know any better, it just looks like a group of men in long flowing white skirts and jackets, wearing fez hats, twirling around in circles. The Sema, in fact has a deeper symbolism. The circles they dance in represents the Circle of Life. Birth, death and rebirth. Fall, winter, spring and summer. The blood in our bodies being pumped out by the heart to only return back to the heart. The examples are infinite. It induces a trance-like state for the dancer which is supposed to help them meet with That, like ayahuasca might for some or peyote for others.

Mevlana was actually born in present-day Afghanistan, wrote all his poetry in the Persian language and is buries in present-day Turkey.

Back then, Rumi was not the spiritual superstar that New Agers and certain yoga instructors these days love to quote. In fact even 10 years ago, I’m sure if you even mentioned Rumi to those who were knee-deep in Deepak Chopra-speak or Wayne Dyer-speak, they wouldn’t even know who or what you were talking about. It’s interesting to watch because since the Rumi train seems to be slowing down now, I’ve noticed that the Deepak/Dyer crowd have now jumped on another mystical Islamic, Persian poet, namely Hafiz. (I’m betting after they get sick of or run out of the Persian poets, they’ll return to the Russians like Alexander Blok, and Pushkin and then heaven forbid, the old Europeans mystics like William Blake, W.B Yeats, Goethe, Meister Eckhart and Emanuel Swedenborg. It’s always about finding a “new” bottle for old wine.)

When western yoga instructors "discover" Emanuel Swedenborg, will that lead to a revival of interest in Christian mysticism? Your guess is as good as mine...

When western yoga instructors “discover” Emanuel Swedenborg, will that lead to a revival of interest in Christian mysticism? Your guess is as good as mine…

Truth be told, I find the sudden interest in Islamic mysticism by some Westerners and bubble-headed yoga instructors who are normally Conservative, Republican, right-wing and very anti-Arab or anti-Muslim, strange to put it mildly. True, the poetry of Rumi and Hafiz have inspired wonderment across centuries. If you have even the smallest spiritual inclination in you, you can’t help but be touched by their words. But before Rumi, it was the Khalil Gibran train. Before Gibran, it was Marianne Williamson and Neale Donald Walsch. It’s this constant hopping around because it’s a trend, without any real study or serious reflection on the works of these past masters and then passing it off as “This makes me look serious” which I take issue with.

if you want to be trendy with what you wear and what you eat, fine. But don't expect anyone to take you seriously if you do it with your spirituality.

if you want to be trendy with what you wear and what you eat, fine. But don’t expect anyone to take you seriously if you do it with your spirituality.

And this brings me back to Campbell’s quote above. I have to agree with Campbell 150% on this one. It is best to find someone whose words ring so deeply and so true for you that you will need to read up on all their works to process and internalize their ideas and sentiments properly. That’s when you start to “get” them properly. One spiritual master whose words have consistently resonated deeply with me, as I have posted many times here is Omraam Mikhael Aivanhov.

It was Neem Karoli Baba who gave him the name "Omraam" and it was Swami Nityananda who explained that Aivanhov was an incarnation of Vedic sage from the Solar Age and in fact had come back to bring back the Solar teachings.

It was Neem Karoli Baba who gave him the name “Omraam” and it was Nityananda who explained that Aivanhov was an incarnation of Vedic sage from the Solar Age and in fact had come back to bring back the Solar teachings. Apparently he also met the legendary Babaji in the Himalayas as well but he refused to talk about it.

Like all seekers at the beginning of their road, I did my fair share of hopping as well. Not because a certain writer was the flavour of the month but because I was searching. I read George Gurdjieff, Rudolph Steiner, tried Jiddu Krishnamurti and Theosophy in earnest but none of it seemed to “stick” for lack of a better word. But with Aivanhov, it was like remembering a deeply treasured memory which had been forgotten and a flood of light breaking through a door. I’ve been reading Aivanhov since at least 1996 and have never looked back.
In fact here’s a photo of my Aivanhov bookshelf;

P1010483

Like I posted recently, these days it’s also Alan Watts which is speaking to me (thank God for YouTube!). While I don’t see myself going to Japan to study Zen in all seriousness with a proper Zen master ( and I’m not even sure if the monasteries there even accept women!), Watts, like Aivanhov, was/is able to synthesize the Perennial teachings along with recent scientific findings and present it with their own flair and in such a way the modern reader/listener can connect instantly.

That is a rare talent and not one which New Age hucksters can ever master convincingly.

The Power of Touch and the Touch of Power

6a00d83455bea369e200e54f0a33718833-640wi

The recent news about hot yoga shyster Bikram Choudhury being accused of rape has been generating a lot of discussion online and off about the whole nature of power within the context of guru/student dynamics as well as male/female dynamics.

femme_800

It got me thinking about the most primary of relationships which we all experience, that we have with the opposite sex (I don’t mean to exclude transgendered persons from this discussion, I’m just writing out of my own experience so apologies in advance if anyone may take offence). In my case, it’s not really about Dad, or brother or uncle or Grandpa. It’s mostly the kind when sexual dynamics and chemistry come into play.
George Clooney and Catherine Zeta-Jones definitely had serious chemistry going on in "Intolerable Cruelty"

George Clooney and Catherine Zeta-Jones definitely had serious chemistry going on in “Intolerable Cruelty”

I’m writing this from the perspective of a heterosexual female, so bear with me a second for anyone who does not belong to that same group. Call me sensitive but there is a major difference in the way a man touches you which, if you’re alert can tell you almost everything you need to know about him and what he wants out of you, what he really feels about you, what he really thinks about you. It’s hard to describe but a whole host of elements come into play when a man touches you, how quickly he tries to touch you and where, how much pressure he exerts when he does touch you, how lightly, how fervently, how calmly, how warmly, how suddenly, how hard or how soft. Maybe I’m some kind of freak but I’ve been able to read exactly what was going on just by the way a guy touched me. It doesn’t even have to be in a romantic context like in a kiss or embrace. It could be even in a handshake or the way he hands me half his sandwich.
Sometimes less is a lot more...

Sometimes less is a lot more…

I remember meeting with someone, we had not seen each other in a few years and we went out for dinner a few times to catch up, the chemistry was still there but long story short, nothing would ever come of it. I remember saying goodbye to him and he suddenly grabbed my shoulder. It was too abrupt, too sudden and he was digging into my skin too hard. I did not detect any softness, any patience in that touch. I wiggled myself out of his grip but then I realized all too clearly that I was nothing but a diversion for him. I also picked up almost instantaneously that if we were to become lovers, he would be a very selfish one. That’s when I lost all interest and realized it was a dead-end. I have since heard that he cheats on his wife regularly now. It doesn’t surprise me in the least.
Man-touching-womans-shoul-001
I remember another time when someone else lightly kissed my forehead. In that second, I could have been knocked over by a feather. It wasn’t just chemistry but there was a gentle sincerity and respect there which in itself is insanely attractive. Things didn’t work out, we were and are too different and have different dreams but I have nothing but good things to say about him, he’s a really good guy and I’m sure he’ll make the right girl very, very happy one day.
Now in the context of yoga, some of the yoga asanas can be sexual.
You’re spread out wide open, legs open, legs in the air

You’re vulnerable.

A good instructor’s touch is hardly felt, they’ll usually always ask for permission to adjust you properly, they respect your boundaries and in this case your boundaries involve your own body. A bad instructor will not respect your boundaries and in the case of the more lecherous instructors I’ve observed, will be all over girls while “adjusting”. All it takes is a few classes and you’ll pick up what’s going on if you’re alert.
Yoga instructor in film "Couple's retreat" - a bad example of adjusting.

Yoga instructor in film “Couple’s retreat” – a bad example of adjusting.

Now, I don’t want to make the victims of shady gurus and shady yoga instructors out to be in the wrong, and say that they should have known better and walked away earlier and bypassed the abuse. That’s like saying that women who are victims of domestic violence should have known better before getting involved with such-and-such jerk. But the promises of romantic love and fulfillment can often be as alluring as the promises of spiritual gifts and abilities and in that respect, they may not be all that different from each other.
choices2-300x280
Some gurus promise initiation or revelations of spiritual secrets and abilities if “you just listen to everything I say and do as I say.” For someone who doesn’t know any better, the glamour of spiritual specialness or of attaining what Alan Watts called “psychic technologies” (i.e bilocation, telekinesis, Enlightenment, levitation, mind-reading etc.) is too irresistable an offer to pass up.
Real spiritual initiation usually involves handing down teachings after years of study or being a student. It should NOT make you feel uncomfortable, or cornered.

Real spiritual initiation usually involves handing down teachings after years of study or being a student. It should NOT make you feel uncomfortable, or cornered.

Likewise some potential romantic partners may allure you with dreams of butterflies in your stomach, a  few sessions of hot, sweaty, toe-curling sex, maybe even happily ever after just as long as you follow what I call “The Script”. The Script can change from year to year, maybe it might mean sex on the first date but no later than the third. It might mean observing the highly changeable rites of courtship and following the ground rules which society at large has decided on. It might mean following the advice as featured in this month’s issue of Cosmopolitan or Details magazine.
I hate this magazine.

I hate this magazine.

Both prey on the fears and on what’s lacking in one’s life and that if this one thing is not lacking anymore, we will be happy. I personally think it’s even more basic than that, it’s really about Power. That by attaining these things, we become more powerful and in control and here I have to agree with Watts completely, that power in that sense is really not something you want, especially the kind of power which involves controlling other people. When we can control other people, we basically want them to be like wooden dolls in a scenario or dream of our choosing. What makes life interesting is that wildcard factor, when we let go of that control and let things happen as they may. When people talk back to us, when last-minute changes happen.
Being in power over ourselves is OK.
Being in power over others is not.

Oh, how the mighty fall…

No, Bikram, you're NOT sexy.

No, Bikram, you’re NOT sexy.

Breaking news, but it looks like Bikram Choudhury, the founder and “creator” of the hot yoga craze has now been accused of rape from two different Jane Does. You can read all the ugly details over at YogaDork or at the source itself at Courthouse News Service. I warn you, it’s an uncomfortable read because if what is claimed is true, then it really shows up what a real misogynist Bikram really is.

Some choice quotes from the testimony:

Doe No. 2 claims the grueling schedule was designed to “break down her body, will and spirit,” and brainwash her with Choudhury’s “vision and teachings.” She describes Choudhury as a combustible tyrant who orders students during classes to remain mute, and treat him “with unquestioning obedience.”
“Students are also often required to attend evening lectures, where defendant Choudhury rants on subjects including his negative views on certain races; negative views on homosexuality; the moral lassitude of Americans; his guru; his views on sex, marriage, and relationships; and whatever else he should care to talk about,” the complaint states.
Some students are pushed so hard they faint, vomit, urinate on themselves, or suffer heat strokes and seizures, Doe says in the complaint.

It gets worse…a lot worse…

“Defendant Bikram Choudhury pulled her pants down and forced her onto the bed. Plaintiff Jane Doe No.2 could not stop crying and kept begging him over and over to stop. He forced his unprotected penis in her vagina. Within moments it was over. The only thing defendant Bikram Choudhury said was, ‘How many times did you come?’ Plaintiff Jane Doe No.2 was in pain, in shock and could not speak. Defendant Bikram Choudhury then ordered plaintiff to watch him until he fell asleep,” according to the complaint.
Doe adds: “The next day during lecture, defendant Bikram Choudhury made offensive sexual comments to the whole class. It was demoralizing and humiliating. He told the plaintiff and rest of the class that when he first moved to the U.S. women raped him all the time and taught him how to have sex. Defendant Bikram Choudhury said he would have sex marathons. Then he started talking about women’s bodies and how he liked ‘pussy’ without hair on it. Defendant Bikram Choudhury said, ‘I can’t stand fat unattractive women.’ As he spoke, his voice was becoming more and more intense and his language more vulgar.'”

I feel terrible for what those two women must have have gone through in order to summon up the courage to come forward and go ahead and make this public. Having worked with victims of violent crime as a former spiritual care-giver, this is something not to take lightly particularly from the victims’ point of view. Most cases of rape go unreported because the victims (usually women) are often terrified of reprisals or of having to face the perpetrator in court and relive the painful experience. This is often compounded by the fact that the police and the judicial system are often very clinical in their approach. They’re not exactly known for their warm, fuzzy feelings, caring and nurturing when people have gone through hell.

From Rainn.org

From Rainn.org

This culture of abuse between student and “guru” in the yoga world keeps happening over and over again. My own personal take is that a big part of the problem lies within the yoga community itself. If people just withheld their dollars, many of these outfits would go under overnight. I mean when YogaDork posted the news earlier today on their FaceBook page, some of the comments underneath included the likes of:

“Two sides to every story..”
“There are 3 sides to every story…yours, theirs, and the whole damn truth. Don’t judge.”
” It’s really too bad that people are willing to destroy the man before they know the whole picture. I say he’s innocent until proven guilty.”

And to that I say:

125785006e16c35d26

Don’t judge?
Especially when 2 different women and a third back in March have all come forward on Bikram’s sexual harassment/abuse?

Sarah Baughn accused Bikram of sexual assault this past March.

Sarah Baughn accused Bikram of sexual assault this past March.

This is what drives me nuts about the yoga community at times, it would seem in the drive to be “spiritual” or “enlightened” some people’s brains have been reduced to mush since they live in fear or being labelled “judgemental” like that’s tantamount to being labelled a child abuser. The problem is due to this fear of being labelled judgemental, they often allow some of their own moral compasses to slide and not necessarily in the correct direction.

judgemental

Take this comment for instance from the same aforementioned FaceBook thread:

“I don’t even care. I will continue to go to my Bikram studio and do the yoga that works for me and that has changed my entire life for the better. I don’t need to agree with the supposed “founder” to get the benefits from my yoga studio. I love my teachers and do not feel any of the corruption that I read about Bikram. I feel love, compassion, and true caring. Bikram is not the one who has changed my life…my studio and instructors are. I take solace in the fact that I don’t actually give any money to him but instead get paid to do laundry AND free yoga.” (it got 28″Likes”)

What this poster fails to see, no doubt, in her blind drive for “love, compassion and true caring” and “free yoga” is that she’s certainly not showing any love, compassion and true caring whatsoever to the victims here of what is essentially a criminal and violent act and instead by continuing to frequent Bikram studios, has sided with the guilty party and is helping to augment the name, the brand and the organization.

Bikram logo.

Bikram logo.

I understand that there is something called moral relativism. What may be right for one person can be completely wrong for someone else given the context, life circumstance etc. However, I do think at some point a line has to be drawn in the sand particularly when abuse and violence come into play. And rape is violence, no matter how you cut it.
That’s just, plain unacceptable.

The Futility of Permanence

I met a traveler from an antique land
Who said: “Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them on the sand,
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown
And wrinkled lip and sneer of cold command
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them and the heart that fed.
And on the pedestal these words appear:
`My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings:
Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair!’
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare,
The lone and level sands stretch far away

-Ozymandias, Percy Bysshe Shelley

Sri Lanka,

or even ancient Greece,

and you’ll quickly realize many of these ancient kings, emperors and conquerors were megalomaniacs, building this statue or that temple, like in Shelley’s poem, trying to stake their tiny claim in the face of eternity.

Unfortunately, monuments, cities and buildings eventually fall into disrepair or ruin. Things like climate changes, wars and the march of time have a funny way of doing that. History is full of examples of civilizations or cities disappearing altogether, like in the case of the River Menderes silting up the plains and thus precipitating the ruin of the ancient Roman city of Ephesus, or an earthquake swallowing a city whole in the case of Antioch or even a city being abandoned completely because the Uzboy river dried up  like the ancient Khwarezm civilization  in Turkmenistan.

I will on occasion usually watch cheesy awards shows like the Oscars. The fanfare, the pre-awards shows where plastic hosts ooh’s and aah’s over the actresses (usually) gaudy gowns while acting like the actor or actress’ bit of acting work has somehow achieved world peace or cured cancer, and now the post-ceremony parties.

Scarlett Johannson and Isaac Mitzrahi in a major faux-pas on the red carpet

Scarlett Johannson and Isaac Mitzrahi in a major faux-pas on the red carpet

It shows up the worst of vulgar celebrity culture. I don’t care about the winners anymore since in my mind, the Oscars lost their credibility a long time ago (if you’re a serious film fan and want to know the movies worth watching, keep a close eye on the winners at the Cannes, Telluride, Berlin and Venice film festivals as well as the NYC and London Critics Circle Awards). It’s a popularity contest for those playing the Hollywood game and for insiders to come out and prance about like peacocks. Many people who go into film, and especially into acting or directing, I think are also striving for eternal immortality, maybe not in marble statues anymore like the old Greek gods and Roman emperors but definitely on celluloid. What is today’s winner quickly becomes yesterday’s trivia. (Think fast: Which film won “Best Picture” in 1974? Do you know? Do you care? Has it changed anything?)

Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean

Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean

Mikhael Aivanhov had a wonderful quote on eternity and permanence (which I’m still looking for) which I read years ago, that even if you strive for permanence on the material plane, that eventually it will fall into ruin, whether it’s a political ideology, an invention or a monument. That often, very quickly after you die, even after all the hard work you put in trying to achieve something permanent or immortal, if you have an airport, hospital, an elementary school or park named after you, given enough time, these too will vanish and be forgotten. That the only thing that lasts are ideas and the spiritual work you accomplish out of that wisdom. That stays alive forever. One only has to look at the likes of Socrates, Plato, Aristotle and the benevolent teachings of Buddha, Lao Tzu  and old JC, to see what impact their teachings and ideas have informed and transformed the world, in a good way, that even now, thousands of years later, their work and words  remains alive and vital. (In light of this, when I see an aging train wreck like Madonna doing her best to remain youthful and striving for immortality, it just comes across as sad…and tragic)

tumblr_mfz20jxLvi1rif532o1_500

From Aivanhov:

“What about things such as illness, misery, ugliness? Are inferior things also limitless and capable of expanding all the way to Infinity? No, there is a limit to evil, proven in physics by the fact that heat rises from 0 degrees Celsius, to infinity, whereas cold cannot go lower than 273 degrees Celsius below. The frozen particles block each other and pile up; when movement stops, the limit has been reached. Heat does the contrary, it dilates and expands the body, stirs the particles into movement and pushes back the limits of space. Space is infinite, it cannot be limited. We believe ourselves limited because we have never tried to go beyond our own experience, we think we are limited in space but we are wrong: above there is no limit. That is what led me to the conclusion that evil is limited in both time and space. Cosmic Intelligence did not intend evil to endure. It did not endow it with lasting power as It did good: the power of good is unlimited. That is the difference between good and evil, the only real difference. People believe them to be equally strong but they are not. The forces of Evil are not equal to the forces of Good. Therefore, in electing to go toward the positive pole, you enter into the realm of unlimited time and space, Infinity and Eternity, Cosmic Intelligence Itself.”

The Boomerang is getting faster

Apologies Shifters, for the lack of blogging in this past month. Many things on my plate, like the illness of my pug, being in the throes of life changes which are being orchestrated by me and battling higher ups on the employment hierarchy. Between all of that, not much energy or time left over to blog and post my musings.

Puggy is ill.

Puggy is ill.

However, a few quick observations:

1) The shift has gone mainstream.
When “Saturday Night Live” start lampooning the power of the Israeli lobby over American foreign policy, then you know the truth has definitely gone mainstream and it’s no longer a “conspiracy theory” among radical activists.
The clip below was supposed to air on long-running comedy show Saturday Night Live but due to intense pressure from bosses at NBC, it wasn’t aired but instead was released online. (I’m almost positive Professors Chomsky and Finkelstein had a very good chuckle over this.)

2) Bad-boy comedian Russell Brand has now become the de-facto spokesperson to troubled youth on the power of spirituality, and in his case, using yoga to improve our lives and improve the world. He’s been a yoga enthusiast for quite a while now. I love this interview because Russell, for all his loopiness and bad boy persona, actually comes across as a very humane and decent fellow. There’s even a mention of Ickey in it. In case some of you don’t know Russell interviewed David Icke years ago on his radio show and more recently on his show, “BrandX”. If I have to take advice from any New Age figure, I’ll take Russell Brand any day over these vacuous yogalebrities types like Kelly Morris or Sean Corne.

Meta-physician Stuart Wilde usually writes over at his blog, that there exists a mirror-world to this one which he calls the Aluna and very often the visions he sees in the Aluna take place long before we see it manifested in our 3D world and reality.  I suppose what Stuie calls the Aluna can just as easily be interpreted as the astral world or the world of impressions in the language of Plato. The past several months many of his postings have to do with seeing old edifices crumble down or vanish completely or the arrival of the gods, weapons in hand and ready for battle.

kalki_sword

More than several websites have said that it will be 2013 when the real shift will not only be felt but seen by millions.  I think the New World Order and their associated cabals and secret societies are behind in their schedules. They aren’t as sure-footed as they used to be and there seems to be an unseen and undetected force at work right now. I say all the better, all any of us can do is keep our noses clean, remain vigilant, stay truthful to ourselves and treat others the way we would want to be treated ourselves. The path of the boomerang has just gotten shorter.

Bring on Warp-Speed!

This has been a very interesting month already, no?

First, the Pope decides to step down which has set off a whole slew of questions and theories, everything from the ongoing sex scandals involving priests to Mafia money-laundering operations to imminent arrests over abuses of crimes against humanity.     (Kevin Annett’s website is by far the best one out there if this is something you want to be on top off.)

More and more of the old are going to be facing the end of their roads.

More and more of the old are going to be facing the end of their roads.

Then there was the meteors hitting Russia and Cuba and the asteroid fly by. The footage caught on film has been nothing short of remarkable and gives first-hand experience of what a sonic boom does. It wasn’t just windows breaking and falling glass injuries. People have reported that some of them, while waiting for the bus to go to work, actually felt the boom, like a pressure hitting them and pushing them back. Storefronts buckled and car tops were pressed down. Looking at the photos of where the meteor landed, it reminds me of that scene in “Superman” when Mr. and Mrs. Kent find Superman as a little boy, by the side of the road.

Mr. and Mrs. Kent finding baby Superman

Luckily the Russian meteor landed in a remote area and no one was injured.

The Buddhists were right all along. Everything is impermanent and the universe is constantly in a state of flux and change. Who would have thought even a few years ago that we’d live to see the almighty Catholic Church in it’s final and terminal stage? That asteroid fly by was supposed to leave Earth alone. Instead, a rogue meteor coming from the opposite direction, no less, hits Earth within the same 24-hour period. How come not one professional astronomer picked that up given the number of high-powered telescopes around the world? What it showed was that we’re far more vulnerable than we realize or like to think we are.

1980's Asteroid videogame by Atari.

We like to think we’re in such control, don’t we?
A gang of hairless but clever upright-walking apes, who have mastered the use of their thumbs, living on this lonely planet who still can’t figure out how to live peacefully side-by-side, feed, clothe and look after one another irrespective of age, nationality, race, color, religion and gender.

The human race in the future as envisioned the film "Wall-e"

The human race in the future as envisioned in the film “Wall-e”

Instead we come up with even more clever ways of keeping us separated and maintaining control over our fellow human being when the whole thing is a construct which was created by someone, somewhere along the line. Whether it’s the concept of the nation-state, the financial and/or political systems we live with, our sense of economics, even things like marriage and the traditional roles of men and women, just about everything if you place it under enough scrutiny and think about it long and hard enough, is a scam of some sort.

…and this is what happens when humans get their grubby hands on it and start drawing up lines everywhere and claiming it for their own

Like some of you may have already picked up, I love Star Trek. I’m almost positive that creator Gene Roddenberry must have been trying to channel something to the masses with the show, that there are other ways to live, other ways we can experience the world and the universe around us. (Little known fact: mystic and mathematician Dr. Charles Muses, Linda Goodman’s teacher, was a behind-the-scenes script doctor on several of the most important episodes but declined credit for his work.)

I remember watching the movie “Star Trek – First Contact” when the crew had to literally travel back in Earth time to ensure that Zefram Cochrane’s (the inventor of warp-speed) historic warp-drive test flight actually took place uninterrupted and beat the Borg from taking over Earth. That warp-drive flight was important not only in ensuring that Earth stayed Borg-free but it also precipitated first contact with an alien species. See, Earth, and in particular humans, were considered to be primitive by alien races, like the Vulcans because we had not yet figured out warp-speed (we were a pre-warp speed civilization) and therefore not worthy of paying any attention to. Cochrane’s test flight was picked up by a Vulcan ship who happened to be in the vicinity. Because the Vulcans saw that someone on Earth figured out warp-speed they came down to investigate, therefore first contact was made and this realization that we are not alone in the Universe then led to a complete overhaul of all human perspective abolishing all old systems of economics, politics, religion etc.

The key here is to realize that people finally understood the pursuit of power is a lose-lose situation for everyone involved in the long haul.

The Shift and the Shitstorm

From the awesome  Zen Gardner himself!

by Zen Gardner

So-it-begins-the-great-shitstorm-of-our-time2

This awakening of consciousness causing huge paradigm shifts personally and in all aspects of society has been taking place for some time now, and will continue to escalate, thankfully. We’re all learning to embrace and grow with it and let our previous notions continue to fade away. Even as the confusion mounts, our focus needs to be on this magnificent consciousness change and the new awakenings we’re experiencing.

Personal awakenings come through personal changes–changes in our understanding, circumstances, or personal perception that in turn affect our entire outlook on the world around us and hence our interaction with it. What’s happening now is precipitating awakenings on so many levels we can’t even imagine how pervasive they are!

The beauty of it is it can only lead to more truth and understanding, whatever the cost. And to much greater swaths of society than we’ve been able to reach ourselves.

That’s how Universe apparently works. And it’s wonderful!

awakening-sculpture-2

This Forthcoming Crash and Fight Against Fear

The ultimate crash of their fake matrix, as manipulated as it is, is what will reach those whom we’re concerned about: the masses of disabled “sheeple”, “sleeple” or simply misdirected and misinformed people. If we really care for them, don’t fear what the Universe is allowing. Yes, point out the injustices, the flagrant inhumanity and the rest to help them clearly identify the enemy, but see it from the big picture.

But there’s never a reason to fear.

When you’re fully conscious there’s never a place for fear, even if it ripples through you on occasion. It exposes itself and you can choose to eschew it. Do. Consciously. Fear manifests in many ways…an inordinate sense of me vs. them hate and aggression and the like, or anything that clouds our understanding and gravitates us toward lower vibrational levels is a good clue.

All base vibes to avoid. Flaming righteous indignation?… good. Fear, personal hate and big, bad bummer defensive outlook?…bad. Steer clear.

Our mindset and conscious clarity need to be clearly in the right place. And on standby. For the sake of ourselves, our loved ones, and those we influence.

Here’s a perfectly apt explanation on the consciousness level, beautifully said:

Conclusion

All of these seeming “crisis” experiences are essential and will in turn make us search for answers and meaning more ardently than ever. People are shedding their religious, political and belief constructs and becoming much more conscious and spiritual. Hierarchical controls are disintegrating and losing their  powers. And thanks to the internet, empowering information is exchanged at an accelerating rate to facilitate this change.

The multi-dimensional wave of Truth is rising, as the world around us fails and crumbles. No matter how aggressive they appear, their plans cannot succeed.

They only precipitate the real change. And do it they must.

Don’t fear it–ride it! Be curious–be open–be conscious–communicate with others–and take positive action while disconnecting with the matrix.

We’re here for a reason. To be here. Fully and joyously.

And don’t take all this too seriously. It’s just a dream.

Enjoy yourself!

Love, Zen

The Karmic Wheel takes another turn

wheel-of-life

Tibetan Wheel of Life

Holy Crap!
Now things are really starting to get interesting. In case you did not hear, Pope Benedict XVI is resigning. You never heard about a Pope resigning ever before because the last time that happened was over 600 years ago, since it’s an appointment for life. As the Italians say "Ciao"

As the Italians say “Ciao”

I’m not crazy about him. I have friends who are very progressive Catholic priests and they were horribly disappointed when Benedict got elected since he was known to be an ultraconservative. He was going to, and did, lead the Church back to the Middle Ages. You have to remember Benedict occupied the same office which was held by the Grand Inquisitor, the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. The name of the office has clearly changed but you get the idea. I do find it amusing that the conspiracy websites and blogs have already started to go into overdrive.

St. Malachy, first Irish saint

St. Malachy, first Irish saint

Most of it has to do with the prophecies of St. Malachy, an Irish saint and seer who apparently prophesied the identity of the last 112 Popes. According to the traditional account, in 1139, Malachy was summoned to Rome by Pope Innocent II. While in Rome, Malachy purportedly experienced a vision of future popes, which he recorded as a sequence of cryptic phrases. This manuscript was then deposited in the Roman Archive, and thereafter forgotten about until its rediscovery in 1590.

Many people consider the prophecy a hoax since Malachy’s biographer Bernard of Clairvaux makes no mention of it when he published the biography in 1595. Even if it was an elaborate hoax from the 16th century, then why does the list of fake quatrains correspond almost exactly from the 16th century down to Benedict?

I’m not going to replicate Malachy’s entire prophecy but I’ll only highlight the last 100 years:

If the prophecies are correct, Pope Benedict is to be the second-to-last Pope. The next pope is to be the last one.

“the city of seven hills will be destroyed, and the dreadful judge will judge his people. The end.”
The seven hills here are a direct reference to Rome, but what’s to be destroyed? The city itself, the Roman Catholic faith or that creepy global thinktank the Club of Rome? I don’t know what’s going to come out of this but the election of the next Pope will be very, very interesting to watch. Maybe nothing will come out of Malachy’s vision.

Prophecies aside, I think the Church may very well disappear in the next few decades anyway only because they will be financially bankrupt due to the sex scandals and litigation fees. Unless they start reforming in drastic ways and accept the ordination of women in the clergy, get rid of the doctrine of enforced celibacy for clergy, accept same-sex marriages, give women back control of their own bodies, open up the Vatican Archives for public scrutiny, come completely clean on their history and abuse of orphans, First Nation’s peoples, unwed mothers and children born out of wedlock, then I’m afraid the declining years and end of this institution is within sight.

If she wants to work and can do a good job in ministry, let her.

It’s a shame because as many horrible abusive priests and clergy there are within the Church (and Benedict knew about them all, he just conveniently had them re-located and shuffled somewhere else,  like what Cardinal Mahoney in the Los Angeles diocese did as well), there are also quite a number of good people and things too.

I’m thinking of the Liberation theologists of Latin America who sided with the poor against armed guerillas  and death squads usually funded by the United States, oftentimes losing their lives in the fight for justice as well.

I’m thinking of Sister Megan Rice, an 82 year old nun who has a habit of jumping fences at nuclear facilities to protest nuclear weapons.

Sister Megan Rice, badassed nun.

There is also a very impressive intellectual history. Great minds like Pierre de Teilhard de Chardin, Hildegarde of Bingen, and even J.R.R Tolkien. He was a devout Catholic. If you watch or read the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, there is a very Catholic aesthetic and atmosphere to it. Like him or hate him, Michael Moore is also a practicing Catholic and the morning before he won his Oscar for “Bowling for Columbine” and chastised Bush in front of the world for what he did in Iraq, he spent it at Mass. His work is deeply informed by his Catholic background.

Spiritual art of Hildegarde of Bingen

Spiritual art of Hildegarde of Bingen

Most of my primary and secondary education was done at Catholic schools which is why I know a lot about it. I know first-hand that there are good people there. I’m thinking of the late Father Mathias, a Capuchin monk from India and guardian of the House of the Virgin Mary at Ephesus who was unfailingly generous with his time with me. I’m thinking of the Catholic nun who attuned me to Reiki so that I could use it with patients when I visited the cancer wards. It would seem that inside the Church, like any other institution, power seems to screw up the minds and hearts of those at the top. Let it go on too long and rot sets in.

Maybe David Icke may turn out to be right after all (especially from 4:20 onwards).

Why I don’t do New Age gatherings

An example.

An example.

I’m sure this has happened to some of you.
You read some popular new-age book, either on the recommendation of a friend of through sheer hype. You get interested, maybe even enthusiastic about some of the ideas in the book and want to learn more, know more, explore these ideas more deeply. You look online and find out there are such-and-such discussion or meditation groups in town. You decide to go.
Another example.

Another example.

A week later you show up, the group is mostly women and usually older. Copies of “Oprah” magazine are stacked on a corner table. Lucky bamboo, Buddha statues, a poster of a maṇḍala and some gong hangs on a far wall. A 20-something pony-tailed fellow with a goatee sits in the corner.
or this....

usually in a place like this….

You sit on the floor forming a circle. Most people aren’t talking to each other or if they do, they’re usually talking about some yoga class they went to or the newest vegan resto in town. You decide to ignore all this and just want to get comfortable and wait for the discussion to start in earnest.
The moderator/organizer shows up. She usually looks very wealthy, normally middle-aged, with flaxen blonde hair cut into a shoulder-length bob and wearing huge dark, round-framed eye glasses. She looks like she might be a New York City editor of some publishing house or something. She drops her Prada purse on a chair. She wears loose-fitting clothes, you can’t tell if they are wearing pants or a skirt, but it’s very billowy and drapey. She wears lots of chunky ethnic jewelry. She has an unusual old-fashioned name like Constance or Harriet.
A reasonable facsimile...

A reasonable facsimile…

The discussion starts. You decide to stay quiet to first see where it goes and see if this is really something for you.
The moderator and 2 other people quickly start to monopolize the conversation while everyone else stays quiet. What started off as a general discussion quickly becomes a discussion about the issues of the 2 monopolizers and their life story or problems. This isn’t what you thought it was going to be, you want to leave ASAP. Before you leave, they want you to sign in and give your email address. You make one up and leave disappointed

Now imagine going to regular meetings like this and before long, someone is spewing out New Age psycho-babble (seriously, if I hear about “Love and Light” or “Love and Laughter” once more time, someone is going to get my boot going up where the sun don’t shine…).
Ummm....no.

Ummm….no.

If you really sit down and analyse what they are saying, they are not really saying anything at all. In the case of ambitious New Agers, they often use NewAge-speak to either fool you or get something for nothing out of you.

Here’s a quick guide to deciphering this annoying form of language. To be forewarned is to be forearmed. The next time you encounter this kind of linguistic pabulum, do as you see fit, whatever that is. Call them out on it, take the piss out of them. If you feel like punching them, take responsibility for it if they press charges. (Just tell the judge it was a form of mental aggravation and harassment. That’s legit because it’s true.)

“Let it go, blow light and love to them”
Translation: “I don’t want to hear about it and I don’t really give a shit that someone has done you wrong. Go away now”

“Maybe it’s your karma”
Translation: “Better you than me. Later”

“My guides tell me that you need to go within”
Translation: “I don’t know what the hell I’m doing or saying. You’re on your own. BTW, are you still gonna pay me $10 for the reading?”

“Love, light and laughter”
Translation: “I want to come across as nice and caring and spiritual, but I’m not so I’m just going to sign off with the most generic sign-off I can come up with and hope you won’t notice anything or question anything.”

“We can’t judge.”
Translation: “Yeah I know they did something wrong, but I don’t want to offend any potential clients so I’m not going to speak up or take a stand and try to come across as neutral as possible.”

“Everything happens for a reason”
Translation: “I REALLY don’t know what to say to that.”

“Maybe you need to start caring about yourself more”
Translation: “You’re fat. Stop eating all food bought at the store and only drink fresh water from Argentinian glaciers from now on”
fiji

“You need to learn to take back your power.”
Translation: “Buy my book.”

See, what gets me angry about this sort of thing, aside from the blatant commercialism and hawking of goods in some cases, is that many of the folks engaged in this sort of behavior are doing it because it’s “popular”. They very often want to come across as “spiritual” (whatever that may mean) or “nice” or “caring” but really if you scratch the surface just a bit, they really don’t care. They often should not be in a  place to dispense advice when the depth and the maturity to really deal with other people on a real level isn’t there at all.
What I also find to be a blind-spot, is that they actually have other “non-spiritual” means of helping people if they really wanted to. They either don’t see it or they don’t want to. Many of the people who often show up at these sorts of gatherings are usually professionals and have many others skills. A seasoned magazine editor or writer can easily help the insecure young girl who is new to town by giving some pointers in organizing her CV.  A triathlete yoga instructor can easily offer a free , gentle session to a traumatized woman who have just came out of a physically abusive relationship. A nurse or dietician can reach out to someone who struggles with an eating disorder. Practically everyone I have seen at such groups or gatherings are broken in some way and are just looking for a way to heal…or some answers. They either need an idea or an inspiration they never thought of and sometimes those “leads” can be in the same exact room. What could have been an opportunity ends up being a lost one. The last thing anyone needs in life is a platitude which is a masked blow-off.
There is a deeper problem here. It’s one of genuine engagement. It’s really about service to others, even if it’s as “inert” as active listening. That’s what genuine spirituality boils down to, being present, not only with yourself but with others. I remember years ago, attending such a gathering at a well-known meditation center in town. There was a speaker who came in, clearly  to talk about her book but one of the things she asked us to do as an ice-breaker, was to really mindfully greet the person to our right and to our left. So  we did. Though I don’t know her name, I will never forget the woman to my right. Even through her pitiful forced smile, I could see someone who was in deep, deep pain and clearly broken and barely keeping it together.  It saddened me because this person was looking for an answer and needed a space to find that clue or maybe a space to let that pain out and instead, she got this celebrity author talking about herself and how great she is and how spiritual she is. I admit, I did not  reach out to that woman mostly because I did not know how and the format of the event didn’t allow any sort of discussion. Maybe all she needed was a hug or an acknowledgement of her pain, I don’t know, but it would seem many of these spiritual gatherings seem to fog up issues instead of bringing more clarity for the participants.
(BTW Feel free to add to this list of annoying New Age sayings :-))

Seeing the Merry-go-Round

“Everyone from time to time should go back over the events they have experienced and how they lived them, as well as the people they have met – those who contributed good things as well as those who caused them difficulties. Even if there are no obvious similarities between these people, they may have emanated something in common. By making a habit of sensing and analysing what radiates from these people, they will know how to deal with strangers when they come across them. And it is the same with events; many repeat themselves in another form, and if you have not studied them properly to learn from them, you will find yourself in the same dead ends without ever knowing why. Life follows a kind of periodic movement – everything is repeated, but never in exactly the same way, and it is up to each of us to develop our sense of observation and our judgment.”

– Omraam Mikhael Aivanhov
Aivanhov is making a point here, which any recovering alcoholic, child of an alcoholic parent, or person who comes from an abusive background will tell you, that human beings are creatures of habit, we have a tendency to gravitate towards situations which feel “normal” to us. It takes an ungodly amount of psychic energy to break out of those cycles.
Many, not all, alcoholics have a history of it somewhere in their past.

Many, not all, alcoholics have a history of it somewhere in their past.

If growing up in an abusive household is “normal” for someone, there is an increased likelihood that they will then go towards abusive relationships later in life because those are the dynamics which they are used to. That’s their “normal”. I realize that is a massive generalization and assuming that said person has done no interior work whatsoever or taken time off to really sit down and think about these things. This in no way justifies the phoney excuse of using less-than-idyllic backgrounds to justify acting like an asshole later on in life, but I’m grossly over-generalizing and there are exceptions to every rule. (One of my parents was a smoker, and if anything it made me run in the opposite direction.)
There is no such thing as "Normal".

There is no such thing as “Normal”.

I’ve seen it with female friends who had one or both parents who conducted secretive affairs outside of the marriage. Guess what sort of a fellow she ends up marrying or spouse she ends up being? Yeah, a cheater. Many persons in the sex trade, strippers, porn actors, prostitutes, gigolos and escorts (excluding the ones who really want to do this work), when you sit down and talk to them, you realize there’s usually some sort of sexual abuse in the history somewhere.
Porn actress Jenna Jameson teen years were not exactly happy.

Porn actress Jenna Jameson teen years were not exactly happy.

They realized from an early age that using their sexuality was the only way to either get attention or receive their sense of love. It was the only way they knew of because no other alternatives were shown to them. (If you ever get the chance, check out “BUtterfield 8” with Elizabeth Taylor and Laurence Harvey in their slickest 1960’s glory and listen closely to her monologue with Eddie Fisher.)

It got me thinking about how much are we really slaves or products of our past? Is all this “power of positive thinking” and “creating your reality” merely mechanisms people use to gloss over the rocky underbelly of their pasts, not deal with those issues on an emotional, more basic level?
Really?

Really?

Projecting themselves outward towards the future without fully understanding and accepting the past? I have nothing against keeping a positive state of mind, cutting down on the levels of negativity you allow to enter into your life to focus on better things but something about “creating your own reality” seems a little false…a little disingenuous. Like Aivanhov, I agree that everything leaves an imprint or emanation of some sort. Good and bad. I’ve seen way too many sincere people who fell for things like “The Secret” to only watch unresolved issues stalk them and engulf them with even more ferocity later on. It’s ultimately about how honest you want to be with yourself.
If this is so great, then why are so many people in this world still poor, particularly the ones who read this book and watched the film?

If this is so great, then why are so many people in this world still poor, particularly the ones who read this book and watched the film?

As for me, it’s realizing how much I often gave away, extended myself or accomodated too easily, whether it was trust, loyalty, friendship or patience and understanding all too late many times that I gave away or accomodated too much and received hardly anything in return. Not that I ever expected it or felt entitled to anything. It was just never offered. It’s a horrible realization to finally see the many masks and guises selfishness can take to hide itself. By the same token, there have also been times where generosity, understanding and those other gifts have shown up in the most unlikely corners under the most unlikely circumstances. I think those are the real blessings, the real angels. They only show up once you get off that merry-go-round of the past. But you have to see it first. Clearly.

Fuck you “spiritual teacher”, you don’t know shit. A rant.

I nearly died from laughter while reading this because I know *exactly* where she is coming from because I’ve been there myself, way too many times and sometimes way too long.

This was posted on tryingtobegood.com back in September 2012 but it deserves a re-run, by the lovely Emelia Symington Fedy.

Fuck you “spiritual teacher”, you don’t know shit. A rant..

And the band played on

December 21, 2012 has come and gone and we’re still here, still standing, still going strong like I always suspected.  I mean the whole 2012-thing was a cottage industry in itself. The Mayan Riviera in Mexico was apparently booked solid since last year. New Age hot spots like Sedona and Mount Shasta had 2012 conventions and conferences and spiritual gatherings going on, (none of it cheap, might I add).
sedona2012-header
I wonder what those people who were convinced that something epic was going to happen are feeling and thinking now. No doubt, the New Age shysters have gone back to the drawing board and are probably working on a new date already.
142451
Like some of the prophecies and videos I’ve previously posted on, while I do think there is no denying the fact that an energetic shift is underway, this whole idea of endpoints and specific days always struck me as bit contrived. Rather it’s really about an ongoing process which operates on 2 congruent and concurrent levels, the microcosm (i.e when we work on ourselves) and the macrocosm (the cosmic truth vibrations, Kali Yuga ending etc.). I think the real transformation is going to happen when the 2 converge.
02circles_of_awakening
I’ve been due for a retreat for awhile now so I figured this Mayan Calendar  event was as good a time as any to head out of town, and give myself a few days in a log cabin deep in the Canadian wilderness with nothing but books to read, a crackling fireplace beside me and the sound of a running stream several feet away from me. Some time to regroup, rethink and relax before the real holiday madness took over.
I discovered a place, not far from the Vermont border, in Quebec’s Eastern Townships, the panhandle into the Appalachian mountains, called Mont-Elan. Nestled in a beautiful valley, where gold was once mined (you can still pan for gold in the stream), the presence of gold and evergreen trees right away alerted me that there has to be some high-frequency energy going on there so after checking out the website, booked myself a tiny cabin there. They also have yurts, Wifi tee-pee’s, prospector tents and larger chalets. I couldn’t help but think that in the summer, this would be a fantastic place to hold a yoga retreat.
Mongolian-inspired yurts have become VERY popular camping and holiday rentals in recent years in Quebec.

Mongolian-inspired yurts have become VERY popular camping and holiday rentals in recent years in Quebec.

I was not disappointed. Hiking through the snow-covered forest, with clean country air, mountain spring water streams, being in such a pure environment with nothing but me and my thoughts, and having very little with me, no phone, no laptop, no distractions , no TV, just a futon bed, a table, a microwave, a small butane cooker, a wood-burning stove which heat up the cabin in no time, water and food to last me a few days, it really hit home that you don’t need much to live on.
Chalet-2
Aside from throwing another log into the fire, making simple meals, drinking my morning tea by the stream, just reading and ruminating over my books were my biggest worries.

The stream at the foot of my cabin. BTW, where is Mr. Tumnus?

As I had posted earlier, Father Henry, the Catholic exorcist priest who I have been conversing with, lent me two tomes on the discernment of spirits. In essence when to know when some third party influence is trying to screw you up or help you and if that third party is bad guy or a good guy. Now, before I go on, I just want to make it clear I’m not a Catholic and not someone who is into proselytizing. I do however, have no problem picking up teachings to add to my own bag of tricks, even if it’s one line, regardless of what spiritual tradition it comes from, just as long as it works for me and helps me on my way. A “Take what you need and leave the rest” philosophy suits me fine.
TakeWhatYouNeed
The books are based on the teachings of St. Ignatius Loyola, the founder of the Jesuit order. Jesuits, in case you did not know have a very storied and in some cases, sinister history since they have always been considered to be the Catholic Church’s “Commandos”. They were usually the first ones to go into new territories (and haul everything back to the Vatican Library and archives and God only knows the amazing secrets that are still hiding there). St. Ignatius’s writings are extremely dense and difficult to decipher, unless you’re in theological studies or in seminary. The books I received are much easier and are more accessible interpretations of the original work and I might add, extremely helpful. Whether you want to call them demons, reptilians, archons, djinns, the books pretty much give you a 14-point plan tool-kit to figure out what might be influencing you and your thinking at any given moment.
It's all about balancing the inner world with the outer one.

It’s all about balancing the inner world with the outer one.

This reminds me a lot of the interior work I usually cover in yoga within my own practice, when you ask yourself ‘Where is this coming from?” “What is causing this?” with *this* being a particular feeling, a sudden change of heart, a source of discomfort or even pain. To Ignatius’ credit, he is extremely logical and Spock-like in his laying out of the facts and to those of you who already do a lot of interior work, this is a very helpful guide. For those of you who have never done this sort of work, it’s a great primer.
spock-logic-begninning
The 14 points are quite lengthy and the bulk of the book were examples to illustrate those points and there is a lot of Catholic jargon but it all of it boils down to this:
When you do something, when you say something, when you act in any given situation, what are you feeling either behind the motivation or afterwards? Ignatius points out when you ask most people that question, they usually are so disconnected from themselves or in such a reactive state, that the answer is usually either “Nothing” or “I don’t know” and *this* is precisely the biggest danger because if you don’t know what you’re feeling, then it makes it all the more difficult to understand the origin of those feelings and thoughts.
543041_273079819450832_789966457_n
When you do or say something, does it make you feel happy? Free? Warm inside? Open? At peace? Serene? What about when you’ve made a decision on something? Is there churning in the stomach? Do you feel unsettled? Some restriction in you? Tightness? Fear? Anger? Wound up? Your answer will tell you what and where it’s really coming from in origin. Which outcome will bring you to a place of peace? Which outcome leaves a sticky residue of some sort? Ignatius also points out that the burden of responsibility in figuring this stuff out falls on each individual, no counsellor, therapist, priest, pastor or deacon can tell you what you’re feeling. Only you can.
human-spirit
What does all this have to do with the Ascension process? Ignatius’ discernment of spirits has implications to it. He points out that ultimately the spiritual life is the one which will give you true freedom in the long run (I don’t agree with his interpretation of a “spiritual life” since it’s based a medieval, patriarchal form of Catholicism but I get what he’s saying. To each their own.)
Regarding Ascension, truth be told I think it’s already happened and like Ignatius’ question on feelings, it also comes down to this question? Do you want to follow a spiritual, more fluid path or a materialistic path with regimented rules and laws to follow? People who have chosen the spiritual path have a head start in some ways, they are going to have an easier time riding that shift. The ones who are on a materialistic path and decide to go deeper on that path are going to have a rougher ride as this shift continues and these newer energies become more pronounced.  This shift is about unveiling the truth and the movement towards spirit. As any teaching will tell you, we’re spirit or consciousness in flesh. We’re just trying to go back to our real state
