Those unseen things

The Immortal Ones

I was recently re-watching a little-known film, “Valley of Flowers” by Indian film director Pan Nalin (Great stuff if you’re into films about reincarnation, fate, destiny, gurus, sadhus, the Himalayas, floating Tantric sex and how space and time work against several lifetimes). In a nutshell, it’s about two star-crossed lovers, drinking the elixir of immortality and how these immortals change over time and with technological changes. part of the film is in medieval Silk Road Tibet (the film was principally shot in Ladakh which is as close to Tibet you’ll get without actually going to Tibet) and then it’s juxtaposed up against uber-modern and hyper-slick Tokyo.

It reminded me of these stories which persistently pop up in spiritual literature around the world, of highly evolved immortal beings, in human form,  who are constant presences to the human story.  Usually somewhere in the background, always steadily watching what’s happening, impervious to change like political revolutions, environmental catastrophe, like giant rocks, they just stay still and impartially watch everything. I’m not talking about vampires either (and if you ask me, there’s something very spiritually unhealthy and immature about this recent obsession with vampires). From time to time, they make contact with certain persons who are spiritually mature and evolved enough to merit a meeting but they largely keep to themselves. You can’t just contact them and force a meeting to take place. Instead, they’ll contact you if they feel inclined to do so.

The main names which are better known are Melchizedek, Mahavatar Babaji, the Comte de Saint Germain and even in Islam as Al-Khidr, the Green Man. Native Americans have their version, particularly the Cherokee tribe who believe in the Nunnehi. Taoism believe in the 8 immortals (He Xiangu, Cao Guojiu, Li Tieguai, Lan Caihe, Lü Dongbin, Han Xiangzi, Zhang Guolao, Zhongli Quan).  It would seem, every culture and very spiritual tradition has its own spin.

I’m going to quickly describe some of these aforementioned names, where they have popped up, the role which I think they play and how they manifest in our times.

First off, you have to realize that they are usually very, very mysterious beings. If you go looking to read about these folks in mainstream, exoteric religious and spiritual literature, you’ll be out of luck. What very little we do know comes mostly out of the esoteric, mystical strains of some of these traditions.

Melchizedek

Melchizedek

Melchizedek

Melchizedek is without a doubt, the most mysterious figure in the entire Bible.
He shows up twice, by name, in two completely different books, time periods and each time, to assist a prophet. (In fact, I’m surprised the Church doesn’t talk about this disconnect more often but why would they? It would show up what a bunch of hog-wash they try to promulgate to cover up inconsistencies in the Bible). He also shows up unnamed in other places in the Bible. The first time is in Genesis 14: 18-20, where he is depicted as the King of Salem and brings bread and wine to the prophet Abraham and is said to be a “priest of the most high God”. The second time, he shows up in the Books of Psalms 110:4 where King David is told that he is “a priest for ever after the manner of Melchizedek.”

The third time he shows up nameless in the Bible is in the Book of Revelations, the Apocalypse as the figure with a face of pure light, two swords coming out of his mouth, feet of burnished brass, holding seven lanterns, seven stars and a voice like the roar of the oceans. He is the one who gives John the Beloved the visions of the Apocalypse. Mainstream Biblical scholars say this figure is Christ but if you start reading up on Rudolph Steiner, Aivanhov and Deunov and other Gnostic big shots, they are unequivocally clear about this: This figure is Melchizedek and all the prophets of the Abrahamic traditions are considered to be members of the Priesthood of Melchizedek, including Jesus and Mohammed.

Melchizedek in the Book of Revelations

Melchizedek in the Book of Revelations

William Blake, Emmanuel Swedenborg and Hebrew Kabbalah get even more specific, that there is an order and certain hierarchy to this universe, with specific Elders/Beings assigned to oversee, assist and develop each level or plane of consciousness and existence. Melchizedek is the head of the order assigned to Earth. He shows up in the Mongolian prophecy in Ferdinand Ossendowski’s book, “Men, Beasts and Gods”. Aivanhov says that he resides in Agharta and also has the name of the King of the World and shows up now and then to us humans. He is also in Mitar Tarabic’s prophecy of the future. He is supposed to have a red hair and a red beard (natural or henna’ed I don’t know) and the symbols of the Lamb and the Golden Apple are usually associated with him.

Santiago and Melchizedek in “The Alchemist”

The most recent mention of him in popular culture is in the opening chapters of Paulo Coelho’s book, “The Alchemist” where he shows up as a peasant to the boy Santiago by a village plaza and advised the boy to not forget his dream and gifts him with the Urim and Thummim stones. (I should add that Coelho has been involved in secret, Gnostic orders for years so that symbolism doesn’t come out of nowhere.)

Al-Khidr, the Green Man

“Three things of this world delight the heart: water, green things, and a beautiful face.” – The Prophet Mohammed

With the current wave of Islamophobia being promoted by the current American administration, I think people in the West often forget that Islam, as a continuation of the Abrahamic tradition, also has its own particular set of mystical sects, myths, fantastic stories, saints, mystics and supernatural beings which are well worth reading about, even if it is only for inspiration.

So you understand the symbolism of the painting

So you understand the symbolism of the painting

In Islam, the mysterious figure of the Green Man, also known as Al-Khidr (Hizir in Turkey) shows up in Sufism in particular and in certain Hadith commentaries and is one of the more fantastic mystical figures which block-head imams, orthodox Muslims and jihadis will never ever talk about but is a hero and worshiped in the folk versions of Islam in countless forms from Turkey to Indonesia. Many say he pre-dates Islam. Some scholars think that Al-Khidr and Melchizedek are one and the same, just under a different name (which I am inclined to agree with).

Al-Khidr with Alexander the Great

Al-Khidr with Alexander the Great

Other scholars equate him to the Christian Celtic figure of the Fisher King associated with the Grail legends. Al-Khiḍr is widely known as the spiritual guide of Moses and Alexander the Great, a “wali” (saint), a prophet, and one of four immortals along with Enoch (in Arabic known as Idris), Jesus, and Elijah mentioned in the Koran. Al-Khiḍr is Khezr, the Hidden Prophet, the Green Man, King of Hyperborea, wily servant of Moses, trickster-cook of Alexander the Great, Khidr who drank from the fountain of life in the Land of Darkness. He comes to stand for a certain kind of esoteric knowledge, which can only manifest in our mundane, everyday life as shock, awe or surprise  either of outrage or of laughter, or both at once.
Khidr is one of the “afrad”, the Unique Ones who receive illumination directly from God without human mediation; they can initiate seekers who belong to no Order or have no human guide; they rescue lost wanderers and desperate lovers in the hour of need

The stories and myths attributed to Al-Khidr are too numerous to recount here, but this website has fantastic information and will ring some bells among the more inquisitive among you. There is fierce debate among Islamic scholars if Al-Khidr even exists yet many insist he still walks among us and I for one believe it. To even invoke his name is to invite guidance and help into your life.

Mahavatar Babaji

Mahavatar Babaji

Mahavatar Babaji

Meetings with Mahavatar Babaji has been documented in the writings of many modern-day seers and teachers. Paramahansa Yogananda, the founder of the Self-Realization Fellowship movement and the perennial spiritual primer “Autobiography of a Yogi” devotes large sections in that book about Babaji and how the teachings were transmitted via Babaji to Yogananda.

Almost everybody I know has read this book as some point.

Almost everybody I know has read this book as some point.

Omraam Mikhael Aivanhov, spent an entire year in India between 1959-1960 and his final initiation and transformation  from Brother Mikhael to Master Aivanhov happened under the direction on Babaji towards the end of his year. Other gurus who have spent time with Babaji include Sri Yukteswar, Shyāmacharan Lahirī, Kebalananda Giri and Ram Gopal Muzumdar. Depending on what account you read, Babaji could be anywhere from 500 to 2000 years old, living in a remote part of the Himalayas somewhere but many of the aforementioned encounters happened in places like Badrinath or the Kumbh Mela in Allahabad. Nobody really knows anything about Babaji, where he really comes from or any other biographical detail.
Babaji is said to be an immortal who is here to send teachings to specific teachers. He’s not a personal guide but seems to select those who have the ability to teach and end up having their teachings transmitted to millions of minds over time. The global popularity of Yogananda’s work as well as Aivanhov’s  and the fellowships/brotherhoods they created, seems to attest to this pattern.
Paramahansa Yogananda, in his Autobiography, described Mahavatar Babaji’s role on earth:
“The Mahavatar is in constant communion with Christ; together they send out vibrations of redemption, and have planned the spiritual technique of salvation for this age. The work of these two fully illumined masters–one with the body, and one without it–is to inspire the nations to forsake suicidal wars, race hatreds, religious sectarianism, and the boomerang-evils of materialism. Babaji is well aware of the trend of modern times, especially of the influence and complexities of Western civilization, and realizes the necessity of spreading the self-liberations of yoga equally in the West and in the East.”

The Comte de Saint-Germain – The Immortal Alchemist

The Comte de Saint-Germain

The Comte de Saint-Germain

“A man who knows everything and who never dies,” said Voltaire of the Comte de Saint-Germain.

Like other immortal types, there seem to be a few versions of the Comte de Saint-Germain. There is an actual historical figure, documented in the French courts of the 18th century of Louis XV. There are stories of his miracle cures for the French court, tales of his work as an alchemist, his work as a diplomat on behalf of the court, the lovers he took, the friends in high places he made, his fondness for jewels, that in many accounts decades apart the same man appears never to age and to constantly look like a man of 45 years of age, the man who prophesied the bloody French Revolution and what it would mean to the royal family, the stories about Saint-Germain go on and on and on.

The spiritual stories about him as an immortal didn’t really take off until Madame Blavatsky and the Theosophical movement got a hold of it. Between 1880 and 1900 it was admitted among all theosophists, that the Comte de Saint-Germain was still alive, that he was still engaged in the spiritual development of the West, and that those who sincerely took part in this development had the possibility of meeting him.

The Comte de Saint Germain, Elizabeth Clare Propther-style. I dunno about you but this does NOT resonate with me at all.

The Comte de Saint Germain, Elizabeth Clare Propther-style. I dunno about you but this does NOT resonate with me at all.

Saint-Germain didn’t become the New Age rock-star that he is nowadays until Elizabeth Clare Prophet and her Church Universal and Triumphant movement as well the Summit Lighthouse ministries  began to spread a New Age religion/message combining elements of Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism and Theosophy with ceremonies and sacraments. The religion’s teachings were derived from divine messages believed to be transmitted to Clare Prophet by the Ascended Masters, a pantheon of 35 mystic saints and sages, among them Jesus, Buddha and of course Saint-Germain. (Out of all the examples, I think the Saint-Germain one is least authentic, in my opinion.)

—————————-
Do some of these folks exist? Maybe. Nobody knows for sure but what I do know is real is that there are countless stories the world over of strangers appearing out of nowhere and helping people, averting disaster at the 11th hour, giving a word of encouragement to the deeply discouraged and when people go looking for these strangers afterwards, there is no record of them anywhere. That is a meme which is global.
I also think the idea of some guru or hermit living on some isolated mountaintop in nothing more than a loincloth has to also be retired because if these beings do exist, I think it’s more than likely that they’re probably wearing modern clothing, have embraced technology, probably have iPhones and are hiding in plain sight among us, either as businessmen, humble shop keepers or the person sitting next to you on the bus or across from you on the subway.
If you’re going to direct humanity in a good way, the best way to do it is to get into the thick of things, right into the center of movement and action.
Given what’s happening in the world these days, I think it’s high-time we invited them in again, don’t you? It would be great if they showed up.

The End of the New Age, what’s ahead and The Loss of an Angel

Now everybody’s talking about this new decade
Like you say the magic number
Then just say goodbye to
The stupid mistakes you made
Oh, my memory serves me far too well

Don’t you know that
The years will come and go
Some of us will change our lives
Some of us still have nothing to show
Nothing, baby
But memories

“Waiting for That Day (You can’t Always Get what You Want)”
George Michael from “Listen Without Prejudice”

Well 2017 is here. My own feeling is that from an energetic point of view is that it will be a better year than 2016 (I mean short of nuclear war, could it really get worse?). It’s part of the transition years which will see old orders and old ways of doing things fade away and new models and ideas take root. Most of that is of course up to us individually which is why I can’t stress that emotionally getting yourself to a positive place first is of paramount importance. If we can project ourselves to that happy, magnanimous place first, on an individual level, it will have a ripple effect.

You absolutely cannot get a positive outcome to anything if you’re on a negative train. I’m not saying that people need to become Pollyanna-ish and unrealistic but rather when you do things or think things which make you feel better, stronger, more empowered, whether that is joining a political demonstration like the Women’s March which is happening on the day after Inauguration Day in DC, stop thinking thoughts which place you in a negative whirlpool of emotion, or cutting ties with people who no longer serve you or do you any good, you can’t help but feel better and that then opens other possibilities.

Bye-bye.

Bye-bye.

There is great article over at New Dawn magazine by Richard Smoley called “What Happened to the New Age? Sorting Truth from Nonsense” and it’s definitely worth a read. Basically what he’s saying is that the “truisms” of the New Age movement, even if partially true, are now outdated completely. A new mold needs to be created. Everything just feels old and stale. The time of reading about this stuff or buying “spiritual” paraphernalia is over. It’s now time for things to be anchoring in direct personal experience otherwise it’s meaningless.

Steve Judd and Carl Boudreau have both said that the energies of 2016 will continue for the first two months of 2017. After that, real change and real possibilities will start to come in and pick up speed for those who want it. Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on your own personal perspective and preference, 2017 is going to be a year where things will be in the ethers, so this is the time to start dreaming, strategizing and lining up your visions. The energy of 2018 will be much more grounded so that’s when you put your plans and dreams into concrete action. Plan wisely.

George Michael (1963-2016)

Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou aka. George Michael (1963-2016)

I don’t know why but the death of George Michael left me ending 2016 in a somewhat saddened state. When someone’s music you grew up with dies, a part of you dies with them because of all the memories that music brings you. It defines certain periods and moments in your life. I never saw George Michael in concert, though I regret it now that I didn’t go. George Michael was one of those artists that everyone, and I mean EVERYONE liked at least one of his songs. His music reached out across different genres, styles and crowds. My Caribbean-Canadian and African friends all loved his dance music because he understood funk, R & B and the importance of a wicked groove. My friends who were into hard rock and heavy metal all liked the ‘Faith” album. All my gay friends adored him especially back in 1988 when we were all 15 year olds still stuck in secondary school in a socially claustrophobic suburb and “I Want Your Sex” suddenly landed on the radio and the video was rarely shown because it was so controversial. It was all so taboo and risqué at the time so naturally we went crazy.

I’ve been re-watching all his old videos, in some cases for the first time after 26 years and seeing some interviews for the first time ever and I think what Michael taps into (for me anyway) is that his music brings you right back to a certain time and place in your life. Really good music will do that for you. I was a kid when I first saw the video for “Bad Boys”. All the songs from “Make it Big” reminds me of all the those awful, insecure years as a pre-teen. The lyrics of “Waiting for That Day” brings me back to my first serious break-up and how its pointless to try to get someone back who isn’t good for you anyway. “Fastlove” came out right about when I graduated from university and still in love with someone there.

I think he was grossly misunderstood. The fact that since his death, it’s quickly emerging he was one of the biggest private philanthropists to various charities in Great Britain, particularly those charities related to helping out troubled children, nurses and the NHS and health care research particularly in the aftermath of his mother’s death due to ovarian cancer in 1997. That he regularly volunteered at a London-area homeless shelter anonymously. That his staggering philanthropy was completely private and anonymous is amazing especially in this day and age where any little thing is quickly picked up as news.

Michael even admitted in interviews that his creativity was directly related to his own spirituality and that he only produced 5 albums over a span of 25 years was the fact that he was gutted emotionally and spiritually especially when his Brazilian partner and soul mate, Anselmo Feleppa died of AIDS. Anselmo was the one who made Michael A) realize he was gay and not bisexual B) that it was real love which made him realize who he really was. Michael had barely finished grieving over Anselmo’s death when he then lost his mother Leslie. I don’t think he was ever the same again after that. The sugar-coated pop icon with the deep tan, frosted hair tips and giant white Katherine Hamnett T-shirts was gone.

I think what’s amazing that Michael, once he accepted he was gay, he was completely unapologetic about his sexuality and lifestyle. He wore himself completely on his sleeve. He was what people in the LGBTQ+ crowd call a “bad gay”. Talk to any London cabbie and they’ll probably be able to tell you about his nocturnal visits to London’s leather-boy gay bars and dungeons as well as his frequent visits to Hampstead Heath, a wooded park area in northern London which is well-known for gay cruising among the trees and bushes. One paparazzo tried following him into the Heath one night and Micheal, in his typical cheeky way asked, “Are you  gay? No? Well fuck off then.” Famous or not, there are not a lot of people in the world who are that honest and I have more respect for the person who is honest about themselves and doesn’t hide who they are even if they are a “bad gay” than the poser, fake New Ager, fake guru, fake priest etc. who is preaching “Love and Light”, loving thy neighbor and then acting like a cretinous douche bag when no one was looking.

There was of course the infamous  1998 incident in the public washroom in Beverly Hills where he was outed in a sting operation by a police officer for “lewd behavior”. Michael just took it in stride and used the incident to come “out” to the world at large. But then he turned it around and sent the classiest, funniest, giant “Fuck You” to the LAPD and homophobic jerks everywhere with the boom-cha-ka-wa-wa single and video of “Outside” extolling the virtues of outdoor sex for straight or LGBT couples alike. Dressed as a police officer, Micheal celebrates what happened in a public toilet which then becomes a disco.

Little-known fact but Michael was very political as well and had strong leftist sympathies. He absolutely hated the way Tony Blair acted as George Bush Jr’s lap dog in the lead-up to the 2003 invasion of Iraq. He wrote “Shoot the Dog” and the video pretty much tells it all. Because of his public and vocal disapproval of the war, he also raised the ire of another right-wing nut, Rupert Murdoch who then saw to it that Michael was painted as a troubled, mentally unstable, drug-addled dirty gay man in all his newspapers and tabloids. At the time, Michael was attacked viciously for his stance but now in hindsight, he was right on the money.  (at 7:15 in the video, watch all 4 parts of the interview if you can. Fantastic) Name me one major mainstream pop music act in today’s music scene who is willing to take a stand like Michael did, say about Syria or what might happen if Trump starts off a war with whoever? Taylor Swift? Katy Perry? Justin Timberlake? Yeah right.

Micheal battled depression for most of his adult life and things like grief and dealing with fame compounded it. He also admitted he was extremely emotionally immature and stunted when he first became famous. I think that would explain his risky behavior, drug addiction and troubled life.  At the same time, I can’t help but get the sense of what a generous, big-hearted, intelligent, humble, grounded person he was, who was grateful for what he had but at the same time, scared and unsure of what to do.

Apparently he was very cognizant of the world politically and it affected him deeply how much people were suffering and used his money to help others. I don’t know if you know people like this in your own life, but there’s a certain type of decent person who gets terribly shy and embarrassed when they get caught doing something good or other people see them doing something good. So to avoid the embarrassment, they do everything secretly. I’m almost certain George Michael was like that just based on the stories which are coming out now. He was constantly making fun of himself in interviews. I don’t think he fully realized just how much joy his music bought to his fans and what his music meant to millions on an emotional level or how much of a gay icon he was and is.

One of my personal heroes is Queen guitarist Brian May. Michael of course did a blistering rendition of Queen’s “Somebody to Love” at the Freddie Mercury tribute concert which surviving members of Queen have gone on the record to say it was the best version they had ever seen. May tweeted this about Micheal’s death and I think he pretty much nailed it. “I don’t have the words. This year has cruelly taken so many fine people way too young. And George? That gentle boy? All that beautiful talent? Can’t begin to compute this. RIP George. Sing with Freddie. And the Angels.”

Tulpas, Thought-Forms and going into the Vortex

“In as much as the mind creates the world of appearances, it can create any particular object desired. The process consists of giving palpable being to a visualization, in very much the same manner as an architect gives concrete expression in three dimensions to his abstract concepts after first having given them expression in the two-dimensions of his blue-print. The Tibetans call the One Mind’s concretized visualization the Khorva (Hkhorva), equivalent to the Sanskrit Sangsara; that of an incarnate deity, like the Dalai or Tashi Lama, they call a Tul-ku (Sprul-sku), and that of a magician a Tul-pa (Sprul-pa), meaning a magically produced illusion or creation. A master of yoga can dissolve a Tul-pa as readily as he can create it; and his own illusory human body, or Tul-ku, he can likewise dissolve, and thus outwit Death. Sometimes, by means of this magic, one human form can be amalgamated with another, as in the instance of the wife of Marpa, guru of Milarepa, who ended her life by incorporating herself in the body of Marpa.”

W.Y Evans-Wentz

“Visualizing mental formations, either voluntarily or not, is a most mysterious process. What becomes of these creations? May it not be that like children of your flesh, these children of our mind separate their lives from ours, escape our control, and play parts of their own? Must we not also consider that we are not the only ones capable of creating such formation? And if such entities exist in the world, are we not liable to come into touch with them, either by the will of their maker or from some other cause?”

– As related to Alexandra David-Neel by Tibetan adept Kushog Wanchen in “Magic and Mystery in Tibet”

I’ve been knee-deep in reading a few books right now, namely Neil Kramer‘s “The Unfoldment” (fantastic), Bulgarian spiritual master Beinsa Douno/Peter Deunov (heavy duty Gnostic mysticism) and American New Age motivational speaker/channeler Esther and Jerry Hicks and their Abraham Hicks material (there are literally thousands of Abraham videos on Youtube now).

It was Neil’s book which first brought me into contact with the idea of tulpas, spiritual creatures/beings created by pure thought and meditation. It comes from the original Bon pagan religion of ancient Tibet which then became absorbed into Tibetan Buddhism when that religion came into the area. The Tibetan Buddhists have very detailed and meticulous teachings around how to create tulpas but these teachings are very dangerous and they come with many, many warnings. Normally they are reserved only for advanced adepts and monks with sufficient spiritual maturity. As Kushog Wanchen warned ” One must know how to protect oneself against the tigers to which one has given birth, as well as those that have been begotten by others.” Recently, VICE covered a story about a whole online subculture of tulpamancy but somehow a bunch of online gamers and anime freaks creating imaginary friends isn’t something I can take that very seriously.
It’s easy to dismiss these things as stories but when you really sit down and think about it, everything which controls us in our minute-by-minute life is our mind and our mind is a collection and population of our  thoughts and ideas. We’re also motivated by feelings, both conscious and unconscious but the origin of feelings is not the mind and brain, but rather the body itself, I believe. It takes an enormous amount of discipline, life experience, insight and training to define them, identify them, separate them, and “see” them and then, work with them.
There's a world of a difference between thoughts and feelings.

There’s a world of a difference between thoughts and feelings.

Here’s a trick I learned during my time as a hospital chaplain. The next time you’re talking to a friend and they’re telling you about a personal problem, just ask them how it makes them FEEL. I can almost guarantee they’ll reply with something like “Well I think, this means blah, blah, blah…” Again repeat, how did it make them feel. Don’t stop till they name a real emotion. It takes a few tries before it dawns on them to express what emotion they are experiencing or experienced, before they say something honest like “I feel angry” or “I felt scared”. That’s where the truth finally begins. It just goes to show you how disconnected many people are from their own emotions. (Pro-tip: people who don’t fess up to their own emotions and are obsessed in hiding them under a veneer of friendliness, coyness or control, drop them ASAP. They usually end up as duplicitous types, in my experience.)

I’ve been grappling with the whole you-create-your-own-reality thing for a long time. Most of the time, it comes across as a kind of conceited smugness which annoys the living hell out of me and places the blame-game on people who in some cases, are suffering deeply. When someone reads “The Secret” in a place like Syria and a bomb eviscerates their home, did their “vibration” attract it? Did their thoughts create that reality? Was it their fault? Did their energy attract that bomb?

If it's so easy why aren't we all rich?

If it’s so easy why aren’t we all rich?

That’s why writers like Napoleon Hill, Norman Vincent Peale or motivational speakers like Anthony Robbins, bother me to no end. I get where they are coming from but I find when an immature civilization (i.e Western and Occidental)  tries to express advanced spiritual teachings, they don’t quite verbalize it or express it in an intelligent, wise, mature, logical or compassionate way. The focus always inevitably is about attracting money.

Want to start from a legitimate place? Start with this book.

Want to start from a legitimate place? Start with this book.

On the other hand, when you start reading no-bullshit spiritual masters like Deunov or Aivanhoc, it becomes very clear how our thoughts control us and how to put out positive thoughts out there, how to change our perspective in a good way and in doing so, change our outlook and energy completely. Prayer and meditation help but it’s also tapping into expansive feelings and sensations within the body itself. When your energy and emotions change, then magic can happen. I’ve had moments in my life where  peak spiritual experiences took place, not full-on samadhi or nirvana, but where there was almost a swirling, light-hearted, floating feeling in my solar plexus, with almost unbelievable happiness, clarity, expansiveness and easy joy. Those were times where it was impossible to feel anything negative. Whatever negative thought came, was easy to dismiss.

abraham-hicks-vortex-quotes-abraham-hicks-on-vortex-1024x520

I had heard of Abraham Hicks for years but never really paid any attention to the Abraham material because I’m normally leery of channeled stuff. For years Jerry and Esther Hicks had been distributing the Abraham materials via books, cruises, tapes, videos etc. It’s a veritable cottage industry which is usually a red flag for me. Jerry passed on a few years ago but Esther is still putting out Abraham material. According to Esther, Abraham isn’t a single entity but rather a collective of beings in much the same way esoteric musician Tom Kenyon channels a group called the Hathors.

In “Abraham-talk”, your spiritual body, chakras, soul etc. is called simply the Vortex. Because of my own personal experiences, I know at least “that” is real. Like I wrote earlier, there are thousands of Abraham videos. Some of it is very good and some of it is a bit hokey but one thing I will give them credit for is that some of the Abraham material is fantastic in helping someone change their perspective and take control of their thinking in a good way, even by an inch. In these trying times, it certainly can’t hurt.

Check them out and happy thought-form creation. In a good way 😉

Earth 2.0, Part II – The Pyramid of Light

(I will be posting a number of blog posts, translated into English, from Olivier de Rouvroy’s original French blog, Ere Nouvelle.  The original text is all Olivier’s but the translation is mine, with some help from Google Translate. I’m also inserting other photos and links which are not in Olivier’s post.  Given the urgency of the situation in these troubled times, the upcoming American elections with an unsavoury candidate on one hand and an odious one on the other, a possible showdown with Russia, I think there is information in Olivier’s posts, a line here, a line there, which would be of benefit to anyone who wants more clarity to read these days and events around us, with a spiritual focus.)

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Through his teaching and through his influence, the great Bulgarian spiritual teacher Omraam Mikhael Aivanhov (1900 – 1986) opened the path of spirituality to countless individuals, bringing to humanity’s attention for the first time, the need to unite, to achieve on Earth, a large planetary society, a global brotherhood and sisterhood, based on a solar religion.

The following is an unpublished excerpt from a lecture given by him more than sixty years ago, I myself had transcribed it from an original document and posted on my old site in January 2008.

Towards the closing of this site, this text was taken and sometimes edited or modified on various blogs (which, by the way, none of the authors saw fit to cite the source…), but as disturbing news continues in the world around us, I decided to republish this today in its unedited, untouched original form.

Everyone is of course free to assess whether or not the power of this wonderful message is important information on the mechanics of duality in our reality and the true structure of the spiritual world.
Happy reading – or rereading – for all,
Olivier

The angels can only see what is light. They do not see us when we are in an “ordinary” form because they are blind to everything that does not belong to the world of Light, the spiritual world.

However they happen to use the eyes of other creatures, such as animals, to study humans. You could think you are absolutely alone when you were about to make a mistake, commit a crime, or conversely, perform a generous act, but a cat, a dog, a bird was there, and you did not know or notice that a Being, through the animal, was watching you

In humans, all worlds coexist, but they are subject to the limitations, physics and laws of the physical plane. It is only when the world of feelings and emotions, boils and stirs in us, that the inhabitants of the astral plane begin to see us. And it is only when our mental body comes alive and becomes clear, when we begin to think that the inhabitants of the mental plane can understand us and relate to us.

human-energy

Our spiritual bodies include the chakras, the solar plexus, the kundalini force

So if our spiritual bodies are not yet awake, beings in spiritual regions do not see us, they do not know us; we are not yet citizens of their world, we do not figure or appear on their records and we can receive neither nourishment nor any gift from them. Those who do not receive spiritual nourishment, joy nor happiness have irrefutable mathematical proof that they are in the dark, ignorant. If they stayed in the lower regions, clinging to money and material pleasures, they are cut off from the light, and as the inhabitants of the higher worlds have not noticed them, they did not help them, and they can’t receive anything sublime, heavenly or divine.

Get registered.

Get registered.

As to be seen, known, registered somewhere in society, one must meet certain conditions. In the same way, to be seen, known and registered in the higher worlds, we must lead a determined life which requires us to be alert to subtleties. One can awaken these states through meditation, poetry, mystical music, thanks to all that is beautiful, bright, divine. Once awakened in us, these centers put us in communication with other worlds where those beings begin to “see” us, to take us into consideration. It takes our information, we have “registered” ourselves among the evolved beings.

The work required in the awakening of these centers is to decide to become living, conscious, it is to accept and bind ourselves with all those benevolent beings who have passed before us and who seek to help us in taking the first step towards eternal life.

The beings that inhabit the upper regions, do not see and do not want to see what happens in the lower regions. There is one exception: if they are charged with a mission of exploration, they go down to inquire, to discuss the situation or to help some people. In any other circumstances, they remain very high above human weaknesses and tribulations.

Do not imagine that the Beings of Light will just stand there watching the sad spectacle of most humans on Earth! No, they are too far, too high, it is of no interest to them. So, in order to get their attention, to be seen by them, to be noticed, one must make signs, signals which must be projected into the space of light.

These “light signals” by humans are like sparks, that sentinels in higher worlds, must be on the look-out for. Once they have been sighted, they rush in to help. Without this projection of Light, they are unable to see and, of course, all your requests will be ignored. Yes, dear brothers and sisters, remember this well: in the higher worlds, there is only one language; it is that of Light.

And now, how do things operate in the world of demons? Demons are bothered by the Light. They flee and go to those dark, dirty places. They enter into them, and they set up their homes. I told you that demons were like the owls; Yes, because they are blind in the light. To enter us, they are forced to wait for an end to this terrible force which for them, is the light to the spirits of darkness, there is only one impregnable fortress: the Light .

I speak constantly of Light, because it represents what is most valuable, the most important thing in Creation. This is the most sublime and rarest quintessence, the absolute protective and defensive weapon. This is “the strong force of all forces” mentioned by Hermes Trismegistus in the Emerald Tablet. Light is able to push out all your enemies and release them.

tree-sunburst1

When you pray or meditate, always seek the Light, the Light, and yet again the Light. You will avoid all the tragedies of life. Try. Never doubt. At night, if you hear a strange noise, what do you do? You hurry to turn on the light. Apart from the light, there is nothing else which you can rely on. To be seen by sublime beings, there is only one way: become bright, shine, like the Light. To escape the demons that harass you, there is only one way: become Light; they will be unable to harm you.

Dark beings are harassed and bothered by the light of radiating souls, and seek to destroy it. They do not see that Light which troubles and disturbs them, they can only feel it. If they sometimes manage to see Light, it is by deceiving and using beings who are their superiors, to look through their eyes. Otherwise, they are unable to distinguish the Light.

The tube-nosed fruit bat.

The tube-nosed fruit bat.

Besides, I told you that the converse also exists: that beings who inhabit the higher, purer planes of existence sometimes use the eyes of those who live below, animals for example, to observe us. Using this same tactic, inferior beings try to gain ground, to enter the human body and mind by using similar methods, to see, observe and interfere with realities which are above them. There is a great war between the inhabitants of the lower realities and those of the higher realities.

Spy VS Spy

Spy VS Spy

In the physical world, when two countries are at war, each trying to send in camouflaged and well-trained spies. They adopt the language of the country they are sent into, mimic the behavior of its inhabitants, they are provided with papers and references and they know everything there is to know about their enemy. These spies see everything, watch everything and communicate to their superiors what they saw and heard. In addition, they seek to destroy and sabotage. And of course, it is mutual. This procedure is common and well known. But what is not generally known is that things operate exactly in the same way in the spiritual world between the White Lodge and the Black Lodge, at least with regard to the region of this Earth.

No spyware can enter the upper regions where it would be immediately revealed. On Earth, in contrast, everything is mixed. Down here, the pure and the impure gets mixed up, the right and wrong, heaven and hell. There are well-camouflaged Black Lodge spies masquerading as disciples of love. They speak their language, they are dressed like spirits from above. They are wolves in sheep’s clothing.

Case in point, founder and leader of the cult "Children of God, David Berg.

Case in point, founder and leader of the cult “Children of God, David Berg.

And conversely, in places where the Black Lodge holds meetings to develop its projects, poisoning and and plotting the destruction of humanity, there are camouflaged members of the White Lodge, who pose as Black Lodge members and are equipped to sabotage and destroy their infernal plans. Under the appearance of wolves, they are in fact, gentle sheep.

The Earth is a crossroads where white forces and dark forces intersect. No film, no play has ever presented accurately this terrible struggle. Should writers and directors ever decide to portray the extraordinary diplomacy, the arts and the rivalry of these two forces employ and wield against each other on the physical plane, all the better. It seems that nothing can separate them.

For now, things are at this stage. So you’re probably wondering why doesn’t Cosmic Intelligence separate the dark forces from the forces of light? Why doesn’t it burn it out in a few seconds so that we can flourish in peace? Well, simply because Cosmic Intelligence has sublime patience and has plans to transform even the devils into angels.

Whatever happens and whatever you external circumstances you find yourselves in, stay loyal to the White Lodge: if you find yourself one day grappling with beings who seek to lure you down, do not be afraid, link yourself the Great Universal Brotherhood and Sisterhood. Act as traitors in the eyes of the Black Lodge, but be better! Only in this way you can get out of your tribulations. Otherwise, your difficulties will last forever. All those who cut their link with the White Lodge, cut themselves off from the Source of life itself, eventually commit evil, injustice, crime. Sooner or later, they will find themselves in difficulties and complications.

You probably think I’m talking about things that do not concern you. You say: “What then is this history of engagement with a White Lodge or a Black Lodge?” Yet it happens every day, all the time. Someone, for example, to satisfy a desire or ambition, needs money. Someone eventually shows up and asks them: “Will you write this or do that for me? Will you play such a role? You are a scientist, a physicist, or a chemist, will you work for me to make a profitable discovery?”

Tesla turned his back on the Black Lodge, many, many times.

Tesla turned his back on the Black Lodge, many, many times.

Before you accept or reject anything, everyone should be aware that all proposals are made to either contribute to projects which either “turn off” the Light, to destroy, to kill, to handle and manipulate according to the wishes of the Black Lodge. This can happen in countless forms and ways. All those who agree to work in this direction, unknowingly have signed a pact with the Black Lodge.

Whatever their reputation in the eyes of the world, whatever image they manage to project of themselves, whether they be writers, artists, actors, patrons, scholars, scientists, workers or heads of state, all who decide to engage indiscriminately in the service of the Black Lodge, will find themselves bound by the Prince of this World. Once seduced, they fall into the trap and become his slaves.

Don't do it!

Don’t do it!

Scientific programs, political speeches and economic plans are often disguised as incentives to do evil. That is the only question you need to ask. The facts are all there, usually obvious. As soon as one has agreed to a pact with the Black Lodge, either for money, power, for a woman, for glory, fame or for fun, it is registered in the Black Book. In contrast, an apparently insignificant, selfless act can be enough to get you into the White Lodge, since it is inspired by a noble ideal.

Work for evil and you will pay dearly for it. One day or another, misfortunes and disasters have always mercilessly visited those who have contributed to the increased presence of evil, creating dark projects. This is an absolute truth, whether we recognize it or not.

J. Robert Oppenheimer, the father of the atom bomb.

J. Robert Oppenheimer, the father of the atom bomb. His life was full of triumph and tragedy.

A disciple of the White Lodge is a conscious being who knows how to discern and distinguish the two forces, and learns how to master the dark forces, invert them in order to use them for the service of humanity, for the good. That is a true Magi! In conscious life, everything can be used for good, even the lower forces but do you know how? Light and prayer is the secret that can save you.

When you love a person, look at them from afar with Light, don’t try to own them or control them. They will be happy without knowing why, and they will feel much better things. Disciples of the White Lodge must finally decide to use the Light, work with the Light. Those who refuse are not members of the White Lodge, as they insist on using other methods.

What are we to do for those stubborn ones, those who have a “hard” head? Cosmic Intelligence in its mercy, always gives them time to change, to decide, to make an effort. But once the delay ends, there comes a time when you have to pay. There are Beings on high, who watch over our development, who will not allow any disruption to the advancement of the Great Universal White Brotherhood and Sisterhood, to Unity.

Conversely, these inhabitants of the upper regions are delighted to see on Earth, here and there, homes and places of Light; this is their joy, it is their happiness. Small homes of Light are the link between the New Earth and the Earth as it is.

Without these connections, without these centers, the Earth would be invaded and destroyed by the dark forces. These are the light centers scattered around the world who support the souls of men, give them food, joy, happiness. I will reveal what is actually a full initiatory center of life and light: it is the top of a mountain that links Earth to Heaven.

"Asia Pyramid" - Roger Dean

“Asia Pyramid” – Roger Dean copyright 2016

You, the disciples of Light must succeed in forming together a luminous, gigantic pyramid, like that which rises above Agartha since time immemorial. Yes, because, the pyramids built by the Egyptians were made in the image of the Pyramid of Agartha, in the same way, above all sanctuaries, above all places where meditations, ceremonies and prayers are held, there is a similar pyramid formed by the subtle particles from the auras of the participants in these meetings.

Soon you will understand. And your consciousness will expand and be enlightened. You will train and you will set up a pyramid that will be seen in many parts of the Universe.

Outside of this Pyramid of Light, there is no salvation for humanity.

Dear Brothers and Sisters, hold on to the Light! Become Children of Light! Let Light and Peace be with you! ”

Twin Souls Part Deux – The Dark Cupid Love Bite

“Have you ever had a love connection with someone so strong, you believed they could be your soul mate or even a twin flame? Did this person who you thought to be “the One”, arrive with a magical sense of reality, powerful psychic connections, super sexual chemistry, déjà vus, omens and even supernatural overtones? Perhaps you feel mystically connected on a deeper soul level, and yet there seems to be dangerousness about it. The passion may be unstoppable if you cross that line…. Longing and passion builds as telltale signs appear that he or she must be “the One”…The meeting could be accidental, in an unusual place or situation for you… There is a sense of familiarity, as if you already know this strange new person, perhaps from another place or time. Yet, you can’t seem to place it…You now feel that the dream was some sort of divine precognitive foreshadowing. Your dream lover has come to life….Did you just meet The One? Your soul mate?…From deep inside, however, you feel a subtle hint of push-pull resistance. Your inner voice tries to check in with you, but you squash it like a bug. Your logical mind may question all this, but the lonely part of you can’t stop wanting excitement, a rescue from that hopeless feeling that you’ll never have true love and will always settle for less. You want to experience passion and love that you’ve never really known before. You fight both sides of yourself as if you’ve been split into two people. Confusion sets in, and you just can’t stop thinking about that person.”

“Soul Mates, Twin Flame or Love”, by Eve Lorgen

Whenever I look at my stats for this blog on the admin page, I always notice my Twin Souls blog post as well as Twin Souls on Film are usually the most frequented ones. It has been that way for a few years now so there isn’t a doubt in my mind that there are many, many people out there who are hungry for information about this topic and are no doubt still searching, hoping, wishing for their other half.

I wrote those posts a few years ago and while I do think the twin soul phenomena is real, I just don’t think they are as common as many of us would like it to be. Instead of one in a million, I think one in a billion is probably more accurate in terms of probability of it actually happening. There are tonnes of books about the topic now, countless YouTube videos, websites and personal blogs.

What I find funny about some of the personal blogs about the authors writing about meeting their twins is how the first few years everything is love and rainbows, and then the doubt starts to creep in and then somehow or other they break up, and then suddenly the blog is gone. Oh well. It reminds me of that sleazy New Age writer Richard Bach, (he of Jonathan Livingston Seagull fame in the 1970s) and those books he wrote about his twin soul relationship with actress Leslie Parrish called “The Bridge Across Forever” and “One”. They have since divorced and he’s married to wifey number 3 now.

After reading Eve Lorgen’s article on the love bite and watched subsequent videos and reflecting on some personal experience of myself and friends, I am of the opinion now that most traumatic, unhealthy, obsessive relationships which may people convince themselves are twin soul relationships, are in fact Dark Cupid Love Bites.

Dark Cupid

Dark Cupid

Lorgen goes further and says that these relationships are usually due to a third-party paranormal interference, like alien, ET, reptilian or demonic influence/interference. I wouldn’t go that far. However, the idea of a False Twin who is there to trip you up, lead you down a false path, distract you from your spiritual life and progress, to interfere with your life path especially if there is a chance that you could actually accomplish something very important and needed, that causes you nothing but emotional and spiritual pain, that I can buy.

The more you read about false twin soul/ Dark Cupid love Bite  encounters and testimonials, a few major themes pop up.

1) *Something* is preventing “Happily ever after”.
Either one partner is married, or both are to other people and for whatever reason, they just cannot seem to come together. The signs are all there, the strange, otherworldly coincidences, the vivid dreams, the uncanny ability to understand each other on a level no one else can even come close to. In theory, you should be together…but its not happening. And it does nothing but cause untold amounts of grief, sadness and frustration. A word of advice here (especially for women): Love isn’t supposed to hurt. Sacrificing your happiness and psycho-emotional well-being for love is a myth and an unhealthy one at that. (In fact, I’m starting to think the whole myth of romance and fairy tale weddings is a highly sophisticated con being pulled by the government to ensure that citizens keep procreating so that the government has a continued tax base. I think love can be real but I think romance is a construct marketers and film directors made up. Love and romance are NOT the same thing.)

Love is only blind if you allow it to be.

Love is only blind if you allow it to be.

2) Once the binders come off about the false twin, the blinders will come off on everything else.
Once you see the false twin as a false twin, intruder, interrupter, interloper for what they are, all those unanswered questions, nagging doubts you had about the person in the back of your mind will suddenly make sense. You begin to notice that the intensity is really a probable by-product of Narcissistic Personality Disorder or gaslighting or some other form of manipulation or abuse. You’ll also begin to notice who are the other phoneys taking up space in your life and it becomes that much easier to cut the cord. For some strange reason, the false twin seems to be the first domino.

Lorgen lists a whole bunch of other Red Flags, which I think are worth noting:

– Dreams of the partner before meeting them, suggesting something precognitive.
– Physical sensations in the solar plexus, genital, gut or other body areas, such as neck, heart, and between the shoulders.

Love shouldn't feel like your heart is being ripped out. It should feel whole, like it is getting bigger and stronger.

Love shouldn’t feel like your heart is being ripped out. It should feel whole, like it is getting bigger and stronger.

– Astral sex visitations and/or telesthesia — sensing the energy body in a sexual way and very physically, as if another being were present but invisible.
– Strong psychic connection, even though you may not really love your partner.
– Powerful sexual passion and obsessive need to have sex, even in cases in which you don’t love the partner or they don’t love you and/or are abusive.
– Psychic responses and coincidences from either partner, like receiving a phone call or email from your partner the moment you think about cutting off the connection.
– A sense of emotional or physical draining.
– One partner becoming suddenly switched off emotionally or “psychically unplugged.”
– Feelings of being watched, or being played like puppets in some drama-myth.
– Paranormal activity, third-party “entity” visits or attacks, sudden dreams, visions and thoughts as if implanted.
– Obsessive thoughts that are not usual for either partner
– Synchronicities, omens, and a feeling of being in a magical reality.

If you feel like your "love" is choking you or becoming an obsession, that is NOT HEALTHY.

If you feel like your “love” is choking you or becoming an obsession, that is NOT HEALTHY. This VOGUE cover with supermodel Stephanie Seymour was pulled when there was an outcry from women’s groups about glorifying “violent love”.

If you didn’t know any better, this list would make you think that these are definitely the signs of a twin but this is where your own sense of discernment and emotional intelligence is going to come into play. Are you crying more than laughing? Are you more often sad and bewildered than happy and content? Do you feel good, empowered and healthy after dealing with this person or do you feel drained, tired and confused? Do you feel like you’re allowed to be who you are or do you feel slight manipulations are at play?

I’ll be the first one to admit that it can take you forever sometimes to figure out what the hell is really going on…but once you do, you see the trap for what it is and you’ll most likely never fall in again.

Magic in the Neighbourhood

The Brownie Castle, Granby, Quebec

I have mentioned a few times that I grew up in a particularly idyllic part of Canada, in Southern Quebec, an area known as the Eastern Townships, which straddles the border with Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. It is in the Appalachian panhandle, the oldest mountain range on planet Earth, which once upon a time, many ice ages ago, was 7 times higher than the Himalayas.

Lavender farm among the hills of the Eastern Townships.

Lavender farm among the hills of the Eastern Townships.

Today they are mostly gentle, rounded hills, meandering rivers, sleepy villages established by the Loyalists (persons who were in the US but wanted to remain loyal subjects of the British Crown so left and came up to Canada), farms, vineyards producing iced apple cider wine and ski hills.
To me the Townships has always been home, not Montreal.

Lac Boivin, I learned how to ice-skate on this lake as a 4 year old, in the winter when it was frozen over.

Lac Boivin, I learned how to ice-skate on this lake as a 4 year old, in the winter when it was frozen over.

More particularly I grew up in a town called Granby, a small town established by Scottish settlers. Much of the English-speaking population left the Townships in the late-1970s, early 1980s, when the separatist political party, the Parti Quebecois came into power. Today about 50 000 Anglos barely hold on while the area became more French due to draconian language laws (I’m not going to go into the whole Anglo vs French thing in Quebec but its a constant theme living in Quebec. You can read about it here if you want). Even so, if you ever get the chance to visit, the “STOP” signs are still in English. The wide boulevards, which mark English town-planning are still there. Drive around even more and there are little villages and hamlets with names like Mystic, Aberdeen, East Angus and Waterloo.

In Granby, I grew up practically on the doorstep of the mysterious Brownie Castle, a strange mansion with a hexagonal tower built by the Walt Disney of the Victorian age, Palmer Cox.

Palmer Cox, back in the day.

Palmer Cox, back in the day.

Funny how you can live somewhere for years and never really know the history and more particularly, the esoteric history of that place. I only found all this out in late August but Palmer Cox was a very well-known illustrator in the late 19th century, who grew up in tiny Granby and worked for years in places like New York City and San Francisco. His illustrations were in publications like The New Yorker and Harper’s. And then he created, The Brownies.

brownies-their-book-by-palmer-cox

The Brownies were based on the stories he grew up with from his Scottish heritage, particularly his mother who was from the Highlands. In Scottish folklore, the Brownies were tiny spirits who helped people out in the home. You walk out of a room and come back 5 minutes later and suddenly the floors are mopped or the bed has been made mysteriously. Cox wrote many books about them which were a fantastic hit with kids the world over, not unlike the Harry Potter phenomena.

The Eastman Kodak company using the Brownies for an ad.

The Eastman Kodak company using the Brownies for an ad.

The Brownie images were used to promote dozens of products like soaps and shoe shine polish. In many ways, it was the precursor of what we see the Disney corporation do these days with their animated characters. Cox made millions from it, lived in Europe for years and then for some reason, decided to come back to sleepy little Granby to build the Brownie castle.

And with the Brownie mansion in the background, shortly after it was constructed.

And with the Brownie Castle in the background, shortly after it was constructed.

The Brownie mansion sits in my old neighbourhood.

Across the street from the mansion is the oldest park in Granby, Victoria Park (named after the queen at the time) designed by Frederick Todd, who went on to design Canada’s Parliament Hill in Ottawa, the Plains of Abraham in Quebec City and… Fort Tyron Park in New York City (with Frederick Olmsted Jr.).

The stream heading off into the pool, Victoria Park 1945. It still pretty much looks the same.

The stream heading off into the pool, Victoria Park 1945. It still pretty much looks the same.

I practically grew up in that park, walked through it everyday on my way to school, played with my friends among the rocks and streams and even as a kid, I felt there was something special there.

The Japanese Cedars, they can live for hundreds of years. Many temples and shrines in Japan have groves of these trees.

The Japanese Red Cedars, they can live for hundreds of years. Many temples and shrines in Japan have groves of these trees.

In the fountains, in the grove of ancient Japanese Red Cedars, in the ponds and the exposed giant granite rocks, a hallmark of Olmsted and Todd park design, which I found out in my recent NYC trip. Even now, whenever I return to visit, I always catch someone doing something spiritual there. I’ve seen people meditating, I’ve seen people doing Tai-Chi or yoga. I’m not the only one who can feel *something* is at work in that park. There’s some good mojo in that whole area.

Before going to New York, I went back to Granby to look at the Brownie Castle again (today, it is a private residence with three different apartments, I’m not sure the tenants even know or care about the significance of the building) and to visit Palmer Cox’s grave at the Cowie Street cemetery.

Plaque on Cox's grave.

Plaque on Cox’s grave.

I couldn’t figure out why on Earth would Cox come back to tiny Granby after hitting the jackpot and living in glamorous places like NYC and Europe for decades to build a whimsical mansion in the middle of nowhere ? (The park and neighbourhood were developed decades after the mansion was built.)

Cox, was a Freemason, which also has its own set of esoteric teachings, much of it is a mish-mash of proto-ancient Egyptian and Hermetic teachings and rituals, so he was savvy to these things. Frederick Todd, another Scotsman, was also a Mason (in fact a guy I once knew who was thinking of becoming a Mason even told me that the layout of Parliament Hill is based on the layout of the inside of a Masonic Lodge).
It makes me wonder if Cox felt the energy of that area, the benevolent presence of something and felt compelled to return the favour?

Winter Solstice, Xmas and all that Jazz

stonehengewinter

“Around the 21st of December, the winter solstice occurs. This event is placed under the influence of Gabriel, the archangel of Yesod, the sephirah of the Moon. Gabriel means ‘God is my strength.’ A few days later, on 25 December, we celebrate Christmas, the birth of Christ. The archangel Gabriel commands the forces whose role is to condense matter, which is why symbolically he presides over childbirth. For what is a birth? It is the passage from the invisible to the visible, from the ethereal to the physical. And the Moon, the feminine principle par excellence, has an essential role to play in all forms of incarnation, on the physical plane as well as on the spiritual plane. During winter, when the nights are longest and the life of nature slows down, conditions are less favorable for outward manifestation and more favorable for turning inward. People are naturally drawn then to go within, to prepare for the birth of the child of light, who in certain traditions is symbolized by a pearl. Pearls come from the sea and, like the sea, are connected to the moon.”

– Omraam Mikhael Aivanhov

This year the winter solstice occurs on Tuesday December 22nd at 04:49 GMT (Universal time). For my Pagan and Wicca readers, who celebrate Yule, or those of you in the UK who can make it to Stonehenge (one of these days, I swear I’m gonna join you) the sun will rise over Stonehenge at exactly 08:04am GMT.

Winter full moon

Winter full moon. Always remember its good luck to first see the full moon through the branches of trees and bad luck to see it first through a  window.

This year’s Christmas also coincides with a very powerful full moon. The last time there was a full moon on Christmas was back in 1977 and the next one isn’t until 2034. In other words, they don’t happen often. So for those of you who prefer a more meditative and serene Christmas instead of one involving messy wrapping paper, loud kids, crappy gifts and obnoxious relatives, it’s the perfect time to do some serious, interior spiritual work.

No. Just NO.

No. Just NO.

Personally, I love Henry Rollins’ idea of Christmas, of cursing the Darkness. (And yeah, he DOES sound flippin’ Biblical…I’d curse the Darkness by his side any day…)

As I’ve written in previous blog posts, I’m not crazy about the holidays, particularly the crass, commercial side of it. I enjoy the time off to read books,

"The Sacred History" by Mark Booth. Booth is also very close friends with noted angelogist and modern-day mystic Lorna Byrne. I'm reading this.

“The Sacred History” by Mark Booth. Booth is also very close friends with noted angelologist and modern-day mystic Lorna Byrne. I’m reading this for the holidays.

Catch up on movies,

Invite friends over for dinner,

Fondue party!

Fondue party!

And maybe take a small day trip or two, out of town, to spas or tiny villages with cool mystical names. It’s hard to catch the mystical flavor of the season when its nothing but “Jingle Bells”, garish tinsel decorations everywhere and red, green, reindeer, Santa Clauses, and snowmen on every TV commercial, flyer in your mailbox or webpage you visit urging you to buy stuff you don’t really need. I don’t understand how people can go into debt because of Christmas. That totally defeats the purpose of Christmas IMHO. I’d rather invite a buddy or two over, make a few epic batches of chocolate chip cookies while drinking eggnog and listening to Def Leppard, AC/DC or Van Halen, package them into several ribboned Mason jars and then gift them to my neighbors and then use whatever leftover eggnog there is to make Eggnog French toast the next day.

I'll take this any day over a gift card to a store I never go to.

I’ll take this any day over a gift card to a store I never go to.

Like most metropolitan cities in the world these days, Montreal really is bereft of mystical, spiritual hot spots which can help you “get into the zone”, the spiritual zone. Most of those kinds of pure places are out in the wild now. The few spots there are, are increasingly being outfitted with Coke machines and gift shops but one place I will try to head out to is St. Joseph’s Oratory, the resting place of St. Brother Andre.

Underneath the dome of St. Joseph's

Underneath the dome of St. Joseph’s

I had a chat once with a German ex-patriot, a follower of Rudolph Steiner’s. He told me there was an energy vortex underneath the dome which he had experienced altered states under. Ed and Lorraine Warren, two world famous exorcists and demonologists and who were featured in the Hollywood film “The Conjuring”, had also made pilgrimages to the Oratory in the past. Ed Warren actually experienced a healing there, for his mother. Twice in the past, I’ve experienced very powerful but benevolent Presences beside me. It never hurts to try again.

Happy Holidays Everyone, in whatever form, shape or way you decide to celebrate it.

The Pull of a Place

A small part of the Grand Gallery in Horseshoe Canyon, Utah. These figures are actually over 9 feet tall and come from 10 000 BC. the Hopi, Ute and Zuni tribes all claim its theirs but no one really knows. One of the earliest depictions of a spiritual being in the world. When I saw this place, it was a 3 mile hike through the canyon from the main road, and 2 park rangers were there cleaning up after a flash flood. They let me go right u to it.

One of the earliest depictions of a spiritual being in the world. To get here, you have to turn off the main road and drive along for 48 km along a dusty, unpaved road, which in case it is waterlogged, you will not get through unless you have a 4×4 truck. When you get to the trailhead at the top of the canyon, its a 750 foot descent to the bottom of the canyon and from there you have to hike for 3 miles before you get to the Grand Gallery. Also because its super dry and hot, you need to be carrying at least 5 litres of water in your backpack or else you risk dehydration. Give yourself at least 7 hours in total to do this. When I  came, 2 park rangers were there cleaning up after a flash flood. They let me go right up to it and offer tobacco.

For some reason Utah and Arizona have been calling me lately and I’ll most likely go this summer. It won’t be my first time. Back in 2008, I spent 2 weeks by myself driving along old historic Route 66, exploring 4 Corners, namely Colorado, Utah, New Mexico and Arizona:

Went horse-back riding through Monument Valley with a Navajo guide,

I did that!

Pitched my tent in the Grand Canyon, offered tobacco and was immediately greeted by two condors sweeping in over me,

Drove through the Vermilion Cliffs, hiked through Horseshoe Canyon and saw the otherworldly Grand Gallery right up close,

Had an encounter with a ghost in my hotel room in Jerome at the Mile High Inn , an old mining town which is considered one of the most haunted towns in America,

Spent several of my mornings watching the sun come up over the cliffs while soaking in the hot springs next to the Rio Grande River in Taos,

Sit in the hot springs for as long as you can take it, then dive into the cold river and then chill in the lukewarm water pool.  Repeat three times, ideally in the nude if you’re absolutely certain no one is around.

Went to hot baths underneath cliffs,

Explored Georgia O’Keeffe country around the Jemez loop,

Missed running into Paul McCartney by 10 minutes at a diner Elvis Presley used to go to in Williams, Arizona (he and his then-girlfriend-now-wife were exploring Route 66 the same time as I was. In fact, I got the same booth they sat at and the seat was still warm),

Had my first meeting with Hopi Elders, explored Mount Zion, Grande Escalante and Bryce Canyon National Parks and basically drove about 5000 km by myself through some of the most breath-taking parts of the United States.

Bryce Canyon National Park

Bryce Canyon National Park, a tiny part.

The entire area is just steeped in positive woo-woo magic and I was very, very lucky to have caught some of it. Maybe because I was in vacation mode, but I just fell in love with the landscape and area almost immediately. It felt like home, I probably had a past-life there (I find it a little more than coincidental that I felt right at home in Anasazi territory, a tribe known as the “Ancient Ones”, which is long-gone now, but many suspect were responsible for building the pueblos at places like Mesa Verde and Chaco Canyon and my family name is very close to sounding like Anasazi).
Mesa Verde, Colorado

Mesa Verde, Colorado

I don’t think I could ever really live there since it is Republican-dominated (and boy, do they ever love their gun racks and pick-up trucks down there). God only knows what might happen these days if people know I’m Muslim. I think I got a free pass because I constantly got mistaken as Latina or Native American, depending on where I was.
I then did a quickie trip in 2011 but this time around, it is Southern Utah in particular which is calling. I think it was while I was driving along the unforgettable Route 89 and UT-12 during sunset, between Utah and Arizona, just over from the Grand Canyon and the Vermilion Cliffs, taking in  the grandeur of the place, the valleys, canyons, rock formations, that it unmistakably reminded me of Cappadocia back in Turkey and the myriads of valleys, caves and secrets which no do doubt still remain undisturbed, even now.  There’s a part of me which wants to explore every last square foot of these places. Quite frankly, sometimes places are far more interesting than most people.
Grand Arches National Park, Utah

People have asked me in private messages how do you decide if a place is good for you or not. I don’t know much about astro-cartography (but Steve Judd certainly does) but in my experience it is sort of like how you determine a friend or a good person you want in your life… it’s the way they make you feel. Likewise with places.
Antelope Canyon, Arizona

Antelope Canyon, Arizona

Some places (or people) resonate so well with you that they leave you buzzing with energy and the impression and memory can stay with you for the rest of your life. Other times, a place (or person) feels so downright sinister or gross and disgusting, that you immediately want to flee, which is pretty much how I felt the whole time I was in Washington DC.
I also find that places which resonate with you, for some reason are easier to “read”. Because the energy of the place jives with you to begin with, it becomes that much easier for you to figure the place out.
I have a psychic friend down in Massachusetts, who does automatic writing and produces prophetic quatrains, not unlike Nostradamus. Until she goes public, I won’t mention her name but she once produced a reading where it said a person’s way forward comes about when (and I paraphrase) person, place and purpose all seem to come together effortlessly and I agree completely.
So for those of you craving adventure and trying to plot your way forward, I’d only say this, get out there, start exploring. You just never know, in finding your magical sweet spot, you may end up finding your purpose as well.

Quick Head’s Up for this Weekend

Given the recent shootings in San Bernadino, CA and the fact that British Parliament under David Cameron have now voted to bomb Syria even though the British public DON’T want it, it would seem this week’s and in particular this weekend’s astrological climate is a very, very testy one and I really hate saying this, but a trigger-happy one as well. Here is former British MP, Lord Tony Benn, making a speech about NOT bombing Iraq back in 1998 (and yes, that is a young Jeremy Corbyn sitting behind him).

Carl Boudreau put out a quick post out on Facebook yesterday.
Carl wrote:
“This new, zig-zag, up and down energetic pattern that emerged at some point in the last couple of years did, in fact, become the norm. This weekend is an extreme example of this new norm.
This weekends ‘flurry’ of negative aspects, considered collectively, dramatically increases the odds of negative occurrences and the prevalence of bad attitudes.
It is always difficult to say whether or not negative aspects will produce negative events, especially at the micro- or nano- levels. They almost always do at the macro level. Your mileage may vary.
If, miraculously, these aspects do not spawn a rash of negative events at the macro level, they will certainly darken the energetics and the sensitive among us will doubtless feel this heightened negativity. Others might simply appreciate the heads up.
Be advised, then. This weekend could get rough. People could simply be feeling grumpy and more inclined to snap or confront others. Hostility will likely peak. Or violence prone individuals could feel inspired to act out. The astrological backdrop does not, however, support the idea that these aspects could trigger a global outbreak of violence.”

Steve Judd has also pretty much said that he’s laying low this weekend as well.

Astrologers have this old saying, “The stars impel, they do not compel”.  In other words, nothing is written in stone but the dance of the planets and the cosmos at times releases certain energies where the likelihood of something bad happening may suddenly spike especially if it affects certain individuals, places or events which may be more open to these energies than others. So at times like these, don’t travel if you don’t have to. Stay away from people who you know will push your buttons. Lay low, do some yoga, mind your own business. Get some reading done ( it’s good for your brain anyway).

Personally, I’m holing up at home to paint my nails, watch a marathon of Spencer Tracy and Katherine Hepburn films and then hang out with my dad to learn how to cook Mughal-style Biryani, from scratch.
Stay safe everyone.

”Gaslighting” Reality

Gaslight-Poster

As some of you know, I’m quite a film buff and especially enjoy watching old movies or indie movies from the festival circuit. It’s quite easy here in Montreal especially to catch up on films, given the kind of publicly funded resources we have.
Recently, I have been reading up on Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) because of some counseling work I’m helping out with. I was actually quite floored by several books and websites which categorically stated that many malignant narcissists and people with NPD often employ a tactic called “gaslighting”.
Charles Boyer (Gregory) and Ingrid Bergman (Paula)

Charles Boyer (Gregory) and Ingrid Bergman (Paula)

The term was coined after the well-known 1944 classic film “Gaslight” with Ingrid Bergman and Charles Boyer. In the film Bergman, plays Paula, a former opera singer who saw the death of her opera-singing aunt by an unidentified jewel thief who had strangled her and then fled the scene. Traumatized by the event in London, Paula relocates to Italy as a teenager and undergoes opera training there to only fall in love and fall under the spell of her older Hungarian piano teacher, Gregory Anton, who it turns out, is none other that the murderous jewel thief himself. Assuming a new name, he gets into Paula’s good books, marries her and convinces her to move back into the old London house. His aim is of course to find the aunt’s priceless jewels which are hidden somewhere in the attic. Little by little, he starts to make Paula go crazy. Placing things in her purse when she’s not looking, removing paintings off the wall and then making her believe that she did it (when she did not), putting words in her mouth and generally isolating the woman socially from anyone and everyone else so he can carry his plans out uninterrupted and unsuspected.

The ultimate aim of gaslighting is of course make the intended person start to question their own sanity and sense of reality and it is a technique which not only narcissists, but people who emotionally or psychologically abuse others use regularly from their bag of tricks. The person becomes super vulnerable and then is open to suggestion for all sorts of things which they normally would never fall for.
Folks, I think to a certain degree, we’ve all been gaslighted.
I mean, to a certain degree we’ve all fallen for certain myths or stories, which served to undermine us as individuals and empowers who ever made up the story or the myth because it serves their purpose. Politicians, economists, business marketers are all to blame.  Do you really need Coca Cola to live? No, you need water.
Cassel Pink Diamond ring, .79 carats, you can have this for a mere $1.3 million dollars at M.S Rau Antiques in Louisiana

Cassel Pink Diamond ring, .79 carats, you can have this for a mere $1.3 million dollars at M.S Rau Antiques in Louisiana

A small example would be the myth of the value of diamonds and the extravagant costs of engagement rings nowadays and what they symbolize. I always thought they were bit of a joke. I wasn’t wrong. The whole damn thing is a marketing myth perpetuated by the DeBeers Corporation. When celebrity magazines write stories about Jennifer Aniston’s ring and people being dumb enough to actually fall for it or care or reality TV bridezillas only talk about the ring for 20 minutes…well, all I see at that point is someone so caught up in an illusion that you probably can’t even have a decent, meaningful conversation about anything with them
I don't think you should be going there, dude.

I don’t think you should be going there, dude.

Another area I’m seeing gaslighting is the idea of the “happy long term marriage”, particularly those perpetuated by dishonest spouses.  I’m watching this Ashley Madison leak scandal literally with a wry smile on my face. While I feel bad for those persons whose names and emails were used in creating bogus profiles, I don’t have very much sympathy for those very real cheating husbands (95% of the users of Ashley Madison are male) who signed up for the service and now have proven paid accounts with their credit cards with Ashley Madison.
What the hackers who stole the Ashley Madison data wrote.

What the hackers who stole the Ashley Madison data had to say.

I’ve been keeping an eye on the 4chan/b/ board since the hackers there have been working with the leaked data and just waiting for the big, well-known names to start spilling out along with the non-famous ones like some neighbor on my street or former high school teacher.
Already there’s intense speculation about the kinds of powerful names we may find and some articles are going so far as saying that this leak will pull apart the fabric of society as we know it.
Goddess Shakthi. In Hindu lore, she is the cause. She is also known as Maya, the supreme illusion. The world is itself an illusion. Nothing is forever. The only reality is the presence of Cosmic Intelligence within all beings, small, medium or large.

Goddess Shakthi. In Hindu lore, she is the cause. She is also known as Maya, the supreme illusion. The world is itself an illusion. Nothing is forever. The only reality is the presence of Cosmic Intelligence within all beings, small, medium or large.

To that I say, good. It’s about time.
Prophecy, New Age writers  and even some religious texts say that the veil of deception and ignorance is thinning and will one day disappear completely. That there will come a day, where a person will not even be able to lie because that’s how clearly we’ll be able to see through each other. Some New Agers go so far as to say we will become crystalline beings but I don’t take that literally. It’s a symbolic interpretation of what’s to come. Hindus and Buddhists call this veil Maya, Theosophists call it the unveiling of Isis (the goddess, not the terrorist group, though that would be good too). I say the gaslighting has to stop. The myths have to stop. The stories have to stop. The lies have to stop.
Because to be perfectly frank with you, the ones who want to continue with the lies, I think, like the Ashley Madison story shows, are going to be exposed, one way or another. What’s great about not lying is that you never have to remember anything, You may not get ahead in business or in politics, but your mind and your heart stays clear and to me, that’s more than enough.

Oh, Here We Go Again…

Part of my daily internet ritual is scoping out a few key sites and checking out their daily roster of new articles. This includes David Icke’s headlines section, In5D news section, Phoenix is Risen, Philosopher’s Stone, TruthDig and Information Clearing House.

Already a number of articles and Youtube videos are appearing that September 23, 2015 is going to be the new date of some kind of a transformation in much the same way December 21, 2012 and before that December 31, 1999 were heralded as days when the real shit was going to hit the fan.
Honestly, I don’t know what it is with some New Agers, Apocalypse-watchers, End Times survivalists and people who are really into fear porn but it’s almost as if they really want widespread death and mayhem because it somehow validates their position and proves them right.
Nope.

Not Hope. Nope.

With talk of items like institutionalized racism, income inequality and the death of the mainstream media and presstitutes, entering MAINSTREAM political jargon and discourse and not of some marginal Marxist website, whether you realize it or not, that has a very real trickle-down effect on people. When you talk to people intelligently, people usually start talking back to you just as intelligently, and gosh has the political public discourse changed in even the last few months.  Quite gratifying to watch, if you ask me.
Cirque Du Soleil in Las Vegas

Cirque Du Soleil in Las Vegas

I just don’t think the shift will be a sudden, dramatic “TA-DA” moment like some Las Vegas Cirque du Soleil show production. Rather, I think it is a form of evolution along with a combination of some change in the cosmic climate. A combination of grass-roots change from the bottom meeting the change in the ethers.
John of Patmos watches the New Jerusalem descending on Earth from heaven.

John of Patmos watches the New Jerusalem descending on Earth from heaven in his visions of the Apocalypse.

Some websites and some videos are saying that UFO Disclosure will finally happen. The Alex Jones conspiracy crew seem to think it has something to do with Jade Helm.
Listen, this is what will happen.
Women will still have their monthly periods which seems to freak out some men.
Donald Trump will still be a dick.
People will continue to dream dreams of revolution.
I will still drink my morning cup of chai.
What may or may not be different will be how YOU decide to decipher the world around you. There’s that famous fable which Paulo Coelho once wrote of, that the Secret to Happiness is to take in the wonders of the palace while never spilling the two drops of precious oil in your spoon.
In other words, we all live in this world but we are not of it and really it’s about taking our loftiest aspirations and bringing them down into the everyday and immediate.
Just stay real. The more authentically you live with yourself, the clearer you’ll see things around you. And take action.

Humbug Mountain, Mount Shasta and Nature at work in your Face

Mount Shasta, California

Mount Shasta, California

“When you go into the mountains, all you see are the forests, springs, lakes and peaks. But in the mountains there are also caves, underground rivers and deep caverns. Think of these sometimes, as well as of the beings that live in them, so that you can be their friend. Mountains are not simply masses of earth and rocks; they are containers for enormous treasures: crystals, stones and precious metals, which powerful entities watch over and work with. I am not saying this in order for you to go venturing into caves, armed with picks and pickaxes, to dig tunnels in the hope of finding seams of gold and silver.  No.  Pay attention to the symbolic, living aspect of mountains, whether you climb them or else dig deep in yourself to find spiritual treasure. “
– Omraam Mikhael Aivanhov

Humbug Mountain

Looking at Humbug Mountain from its South side.

Looking at Humbug Mountain from its South side.

Humbug Mountain sits just south of a tiny town on the Oregon coast called Port Orford. At 1756 feet it is the highest point on the Oregon Coast and a mountain which was once used as a site for vision quests by local Native American tribes, a fact which would have been lost in the annals of time had it not been for an out-of-print guidebook I found about the Oregon Coast written by local insiders I found in a second-hand book shop in Montreal. When I tried researching further if this was true, there were zero sources online, but given the fact that this is the highest mountain right on the ocean, it would make sense why this particular mountain has some special significance.

Humbug Mountain sits within the confines of the Eden-like Humbug Mountain State Park, a place which strongly reminded me of another magical place and one of my favorite places on Earth, Olympos, Turkey. Both are located in a tiny valley, mountains on all sides, with a river/brook cutting through the valley which then leads out to a magnificent beach. Olympos, an ancient pirate hide-out, is strewn with ancient Greek, Roman and Byzantine ruins in the midst of orange, lemon and pomegranate orchards and people stay in tree houses and the protected pebble beach is a breeding site for the endangered loggerhead turtle.

The beach at Olympos, Turkey

Humbug Mountain may not have ancient ruins but instead is draped with a lush, prehistoric temperate forest, giant ferns, giant Pacific pine trees, moss and clover and the beach, while sandy, small and private, has numerous seals and whales visiting within sight of the shore, and people stay in tents or RVs.

Paralleled but different. The hike up to the top is about 5km long and while it is longer , it’s also far easier and more gentle than Neahkahnie Mountain. You have plenty of time to meditate and think things over while you walk up through one of the most beautiful forests I’ve seen in my life. It’s a funny mountain; one side is completely forested and wild, and the other side is just hard rock and literally drops into the ocean. The top unfortunately has a blocked view now. The trees have grown so there’s not much of a view, but there is a tiny meadow, and should any of you ever find yourself there, and it is a day not crowded by other hikers, you have plenty of space to meditate, pray or do ceremony of your choice. The vibe here is very, very peaceful. I hung out for a good hour and offered tobacco and made my way down.

Mount Shasta

What can I say about this place that hasn’t already been said or written already?  The modern-day superstar of the New Age movement, Shasta is so many things to so many people. To the culty I AM movement, it is their world headquarters (their compound is near the base actually) and apparently sightings of St. Germain or Melchizedek or UFOs are common, depending on who you talk to. To channelers, the underground city of Telos, populated by ancient Lemurians sits underneath the mountain, to the Klamath Indians, the local Native tribe, it is the resting place of the spirit chief Skell after he fought Llao, creating Crater Lake. You can spend a lifetime reading about the various myths of this mountain if you really wanted to.

What happened to me was quite different. I got to Shasta by driving south, from Oregon, along Interstate 5. Shasta at  14 000 feet is a giant of a mountain and can be seen from hundreds of miles away. Once I passed Ashland and saw my first sight of Shasta, I don’t know why but I just started crying. The mountain had called and I came.

The main corner of Mount Shasta town

The main corner of Mount Shasta town

I’m not going to talk too much about Mount Shasta town or Mount Shasta Boulevard which has at least 8 crystal shops in the space of 2 blocks. Or how most of the books at the main New Age shop, “Soul Connections” had titles, 95% of which were channeled material from God-knows-what “spirit” or entity of uncertain origin. Or how the main crystal shop is selling crystal bowls, giant geos and original visionary artwork and paintings in the tens of  thousands of dollars range.

They had to build up a wall and cordon off the source of the springs due to overuse and degradation of the land.

They had to build up a wall and cordon off the source of the springs due to overuse and degradation of the land.

Or the fact that Panther Meadow Springs is now cordoned off to help the delicate plants there come back to life (some of them take hundreds of years to do so) since that meadow has been overused and trampled through by entitled, sanctimonious New Agers, neo-pagan hippies and idiot, hipster campers with zero respect, over the years. So much so, that the spring ran dry for the first time in its recorded history last year.

Bulletin board poster of Panther Meadow over the years and restoration effort.

Bulletin board poster of Panther Meadow over the years and restoration effort.

Or the New Age tourists I had to yell at who ignored the designated trail completely and decided that getting to the spring was their main focus and didn’t give a shit that they were trampling through a delicate alpine ecosystem which is trying to recover. That kind of stupidity and disrespect is happening all the time on the mountain.

Stick to the trail, don't walk on the grass or meadow.

Stick to the trail, don’t walk on the grass or meadow.

However, the mountain is big enough and powerful enough to swallow up these tiny botherations. The road up to the final overview lookout at 7000 feet above sea level, is 20 km long (about 14 miles) and it winds its way to the middle of the mountain. Along the way, you’ll first see medium sized redwoods, which then give way to pine trees, which then give way to dwarf pines, which them give way to lichen and moss and then finally bare rock and snow, due to altitudinal zonation..

A diagram which briefly explains attitudinal zones of vegetation.

A diagram which briefly explains altitudinal zones of vegetation.

Funny enough, the soil and rock of the mountain looks almost pink or lavender in certain spots. You will see the change in vegetation the further up you go along the mountain, things get smaller and smaller the higher up you go. It also gets quieter and quieter and the sunlight gets brighter and brighter. People say mountains are holy places and that it is easier to have spiritual insights there, but I’m not sure if altitude sickness has something to do with it also. The symbolism is also obvious; the higher up into the mountains you go, the further you get away from this world and its sophomoric occupations.

The treeline stops very quickly from Bunny Flat.

The treeline stops very quickly from Bunny Flat.

I lucked out and got a spot to camp at the Panther Meadows Campground, the only designated spot to camp on the mountain and no where near the springs. There are 12 spots and it is usually first come, first served and I managed to get one of the last available slots. If you have never camped at 7000 feet in your life, it is an experience I would recommended to anyone. At night, it gets super cold, the wind starts blowing off the peaks of Shasta. It got so windy, it started rocking my tent and woke me up around midnight or so. When I looked out, I was rewarded with probably one of the most unforgettable scenes in my life. The entire mountain and forest were flooded in silver moonlight, so bright that you wouldn’t need a flashlight at all. The millions of stars could clearly been seen in the clear night sky and the outlined shadows of the alpine trees, super tall, straight and narrow, made me realize these were not normal trees. They looked like sentinels guarding the mountain. You could practically feel them watching you.

Panther Meadows is split in two, Lower Panther Meadow and Upper Panther Meadow, where the source spring is. Upper Panther Meadow is up for registration on the National Register of Historical Places in the US, given it has been considered a holy site long before the Europeans ever arrived and still in continuous use. People think that by coming here, taking a fuck-ton of pictures to show up to their friends back home that somehow, they’ll have a “spiritual experience” here but I don’t think that’s how this place works at all.

The source of Panther Meadows Springs, can you see the two circles where the water gurgles out?

The source of Panther Meadows Springs, can you see the two circles where the water gurgles out of the ground?

This is a place where you offer prayers, you give it to the waters and let the waters carry them away from you, that’s it, no more. But with New Agers leaving behind “offerings” of plastic angels, Lemurian rock crystals and what not, disrespectful hikers walking wherever , the vibe has changed. It has become a tourist spot and now the only time you can ever really be here all alone is either in the middle of the night or right around dawn. It’s full of people all day long now.

The end of the Shasta road, where the treeline vanishes completely. The hike begins here.

The end of the Shasta road, where the treeline vanishes completely. The hike begins here.

The real place for leaving behind offerings is literally , at the end of the Shasta road, at the Old Ski Bowl. The treeline abruptly ends and from there you can try hiking the remainder of the 7000 feet to the summit, if you have the right mountain climbing gear.

It is even more insanely quiet and brighter here than at Panther Meadow. The overlook is strewn with rocks, boulders and rubble from the mountain itself and past pilgrims have started doing devotional rock formations here like;

rock mandalas…

Rock mandala.

Rock mandala.

and spirals,

Rock spiral at Mount Shasta.

Rock spiral at Mount Shasta.

This was the end of the road for me too. I burnt the sigils here and left the final bit of tobacco and mixed it into the soil of the mountain itself. Someone had started a giant rock spiral so I collected a few more rocks and added to it as well. I hope it keeps growing.

I now understand why pilgrims carry so much emotional resonance with them when they do pilgrimages. It is the doing of an act of faith and there’s no guarantee you’ll get to do it or finish it.  The late meta-physical teacher Stuart Wilde offered a wonderfully simple prayer. It went  “Please God, don’t let me go until I can fix this” and I think I understand the essence of that. It is really not about what you can receive, but rather what you can give and it is in the act of giving, with no expectation, no reward, nothing transactional nor conditional “If you give me this then I’ll do that”, that you end up receiving, a point which unfortunately is completely lost on New Age fetishists, religious fundamentalists , faux-yoga celebrity bunnies and the like. I think it is time we all changed that, don’t you?

As I write this, a few noteworthy developments are taking place. Astrologer Steve Judd was the first one to call it out in June. He basically said that the recent Saturn retrograde back into Scorpio from Sagittarius was a signal that some more unsavory truths about the private lives of prominent people was going to come out. And his prediction was correct.

Icke-on-Ted-Heath

David Icke has been saying from at least 1998 that former late, British Prime Minister, Edward Heath was a murderous pedophile, and now it looks like a victim has finally come forward with evidence and there is going to be an official investigation against Heath among other very prominent British politicians. This isn’t conspiracy theory territory anymore, this is in the mainstream media. Whether you want to admit it or not, London is still the intellectual, financial and political capital of this Earth. Places like Washington DC, Los Angeles, Paris, Rome etc. are all just satellite centers. If London, the City of London, Westminster and the British establishment collapse, there will be a domino effect around the world. Count on it.

The truth, like a panther, seems to be stalking, closer and closer to its prey. Not quite yet going for the jugular, but inching ever so closely to its target with each passing minute.  Even more uncomfortable truths are going to come out and it leads me to believe that the age of subversion, greed and self-interest is coming to an end. The climate for it is vanishing. Evolve and adapt and try to start to get real or stay phony and go the way of the Dodo Bird. It’s your choice.

Mountains, Sigils and Blessings

View of Neahkahnie Mountain and parts of Nehalem Bay from the hamlet of Wheeler, OR

View of Neahkahnie Mountain and parts of Nehalem Bay from the hamlet of Wheeler, OR

“When we see high mountain peaks from a great distance, we instinctively sense that mountains represent a link between earth and heaven, both physically, of course, and even more so spiritually. A great wisdom presided at the formation of the mountains, and where they are situated is never due to chance. Each one is assigned a definite function, which is why they all differ in shape, mass and height. Their peaks rise up like antennae intended for emitting and picking up waves of different frequencies. Each peak therefore creates particular conditions, which can support the activity of our soul and our spirit. And we all have inner mountains we need to climb if we are to communicate with heaven. This is why, for our spiritual life, it is so important that we understand the significance of the word ‘peak’ or ‘summit’.
If you want to get results on a spiritual level you have to climb up to the top of the mountain. The mountain I am referring to is your own mountain, your own casual body. You have to scale the heights of your casual body in order to rise above the mist and dust. ‘Mist’, ‘dust’ and ‘mountain’ are of course all symbols. Dust is that which clouds the mind when it has lingered on too many different paths, and mist is produced by the humidity of the heart when it is exaggeratedly emotional and sentimental and it too prevents you from seeing clearly. In order to escape from the dust of the mind and the mists of the heart, we have to rise above the astral and mental planes and reach the casual plane. This is why, in your meditations and prayers, you should always try to rise, to rise very high, as high as possible. In fact, why not use your imagination and picture yourself scaling a mountain? The picture in your mind will lead you to another mountain, the one inside you, and when you reach the top, the casual plane, you will find so many more ways open to you for the realization of your spiritual thoughts and desires. In the Kabbala, God is called the Most High because symbolically, power and omniscience are to be found on the higher planes.”

– Omraam Mikhael Aivanhov

Alright folks, I’m back from holiday.
I did not expect this to happen but I returned to the Pacific Northwest and specifically the Oregon Coast and Mount Shasta, California. But it turns out the mountains there were calling me and dropping sizeable hints and cosmic breadcrumbs even in Montreal and so, like Mohammed, if the mountain can’t come to you, you go to it.
Last year I briefly visited Neahkahnie Mountain and did Crater Lake and Orcas Island. This year I hiked and climbed Neahkahnie to the top. Ditto Humbug Mountain and ditto Mount Shasta. However, before I go into describing these places, their symbolic significance and what came to me afterwards, I need to back up quite a bit.

For those of you who have been reading my blog for a while, you already know that music, namely 1980s British alternative, underground, “college radio” music and music scene from the 1980s played a pretty huge part of my teen years and it’s still a musical genre I consider my favourite. Besides the clubs, the fashion, the music, it really kind of moulded my outlook on a lot of things, appreciating and preferring the little-known, the marginal and the obscure over the mainstream.

The Smiths back in 1985. This reunion will never happen.

The Smiths back in 1985. This reunion will never happen.

Some, like the guys from Depeche Mode, Morrissey of The Smiths, Robert Smith of the The Cure and Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails (NiN) fame have aged and transitioned well from that era and are still regarded as highly influential and highly regarded musicians. I mean Trent Reznor won an Oscar for scoring the film “The Social Network” a few years ago. I still remember seeing him in NiN in 1989 as the opening act for Peter Murphy when no one knew who NiN were! Unfortunately, many others haven’t. I always kind of keep a tab on some of these artists since I still have such warm, fuzzy feelings for them.

david-j-book-1

One of my favourite bands, bar-none, from that era are the Godfathers of Goth, Bauhaus and by extension, Love & Rockets. Bass player, David J. Haskins recently wrote a book called “Who Killed Mister Moonlight? Bauhaus, Black Magick and Benediction”. If you’re a music industry junkie, you’ll love this book, everyone makes an appearance from David Bowie, Catherine Deneuve, William S. Burroughs, Iggy Pop, Ian Curtis and Joy Division, Rick Ruben, Chris Martin of Coldplay, Perry Farrell of Jane’s Addiction and Lolapalooza and tons more. It’s not the name-dropping which particularly impressed me. David J. is a fantastic writer but in the tradition of many British musical artists, he also seems to have an interest in the supernatural and the occult, not unlike Jimmy Page or Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin fame. There are some incidents in the book which I don’t recommend reading at night if you get scared easily but it was Chapter Six, entitled, “Sigils” which particularly caught my attention.

“…Among those in the pile was a copy of V.Vales’s Research #4/5, which featured interesting articles and interviews with (William S.) Burroughs, Brion Gysin, and Genesis P. Orridge…In one of these articles, Genesis talks about sigils – an occult technique whereby one writes down a desire in very simple direct language. Any letters that are repeated are used to form a symbol that represents that desire. The sigil is then “charged” by concentrating on it and visualizing it as glowing brighter and brighter while focusing one’s will on the intention and sending it out into the universe. The original is then burnt, and it is then necessary to forget all about it. I decided to give it a shot.”

There are many websites and Youtube videos on how to create sigils and such, should anyone be interested, but it got me thinking that a lot of the prison-like reality many people live in, is controlled by symbols and corporate sigils of someone else’s making.

p1

Logo for Procter and Gamble. This is a corporate sigil, whether you realize it or not.

Think about logos or brands for instance. Are they not forms of sigils many of us don’t want nor care for? I figure if they can do it, why can’t we also play the same game and beat them to it by creating sigils of our own which benefit everyone? (I should note here; if you are going to work with sigils, a reminder that anything you ask for, for yourself only unfortunately falls under black magick since it comes under ego, white magick is based on altruism, when you ask for something with benefits everyone, no exceptions. Intention counts for everything here.)  As soon as I finished reading the book, that’s when the signs really started coming in that I needed to go to Oregon and California and specifically those three aforementioned mountains. So I went.

Neahkahnie Mountain
Nehalem Bay and the surrounding area is probably one of the most picturesque and pleasant areas along the mystical Oregon coast and rife with stories and legends. Nehalem Bay comprises the small villages of Manzanita, Nehalem and Wheeler and Neahkahnie Mountain dominates the skyline of this area.

With the pounding ocean, beaches and the mountain on one side, you have the river which feeds into a protected bay, a gorgeous valley and even more mountains surrounding on the other side. Wheeler is the home of the “Wheeler Moment” , a strange phenomena where synchronicities take place regularly in the area. Neahkahnie Mountain itself is considered an auspicious place by Native American tribes, a place where “the Good Spirit abides”. The last time I came, I offered tobacco to the mountain. This time I was asked to climb it. Suffice to say, that it is NOT an easy hike, unless hiking is already a huge part of your life, it’s a good 4 km hike from the base along the Oregon Coastal Trail to the top. I eventually got there, offered tobacco and worked with the sigils and then hiked back down.

The Old Wheeler Hotel

The Old Wheeler Hotel

The next day, I woke up after having the most pleasant dreams I’ve had in quite a while, the kind that finding you smiling when you wake up. I stayed in a magical, somewhat haunted B & B called the Old Wheeler Hotel and had a view of the mountain from my room. There is no doubt in my mind that whole area between Route 53 and Highway 101, and Nehalem Bay itself has a giant energy vortex there, a very pure and positive one which hardly anyone seems to know about. It’s not a coincidence that there’s even a place nearby called God’s Valley. (Go now before the New Age freaks take over!)

A day later I found myself in Cape Lookout State Park. When I asked one of the park rangers if the whales were migrating at the time, (Cape Lookout is a very good place for whale watching), he mentioned there were some the week before but no one had seen anything recently. I found myself in a remote part of the beach and asked for a sign of validation if what I did was right. The second I asked, the whales appeared, water spouts and fins and all, four of them.

Next stop: Humbug Mountain and Mount Shasta

A Powerful Portent of Change

My Sundays are pretty chill. I’m either baking cookies, watering my plants, riding my bicycle and napping beside the river or visiting my dad. Yesterday happened to be Dad visit day.
I’m fairly certain I get my interest in spirituality, mysticism and all things woo-woo from him. My dad married much later in life but during his bachelorhood during the last days of British India, he had quite a number of adventures in Northern India and the Himalayan foothills.  As I had written previously, Assam is the seat of the magical arts within the Indian subcontinent and my dad did his fair share of spending time around Hindu sadhus, gurus and Muslim fakirs and saw lots of things which he just won’t talk about now. Long story short: whenever I hear or see something “off”, my dad is one of the first persons I talk to.
So on my way to my dad’s place yesterday, I caught sight of something in the sky which I had never seen before: a very vivid and perfectly circular rainbow around the sun. It was close to noon so the sun was directly overhead and I had to strain my neck to take in the complete circle and use my fist to block out the actual sun. I called my dad on my phone and told him to look up and see if he could also see it. He could and he did. Like me, he too had never seen such a thing either in his life and was not sure what it meant. We watched it and then within 20 minutes it had disappeared, with shifting clouds, wind and atmospheric conditions. It didn’t last long at all and no one else on the street seemed to notice it either. My first thought and impression was that it was some kind of an energetic portal allowing certain energies to come through. Also with the Sun in the center and the perfect circle around it, it immediately reminded me of some of Aivanhov’s teachings around the circle and the center.
After doing some online research, it would seem the Native Americans have the most information about this phenomena. Native spirituality is really big on strange natural phenomena, they attach meaning to things like lightning and thunder and have teachings around them as well.
Some call it a Sun Halo, others call it a Whirling Rainbow or a Sun Dog. It would seem the various teachings are unanimous about it: Whirling rainbows are very, very powerful portents of change and it would seem for some traditional Native people and wisdom-keepers, the Sun Dog or Whirling Rainbow is considered to be a sign from Creator, marking a time of great change, or transition on the Earth. This full-circle rainbow around the Sun, some elders say, can be understood as a sign to people of the necessity to live a life in respect and harmony with all the creations that make life possible: plants, animals, waters, minerals, fires, winds, and other human beings.
Sun Dogs also symbolize an emerging understanding about a time of great change on the earth. They are a sky sign among those wisdom-keepers who know how to read the future in the clouds and sky reflecting a time of transition. (To the best of my knowledge Mikhael Aivanhov and his master, Peter Deunov had the ability to “read” clouds, not from a meteorological point of view but from a spiritual one, the clouds could tell you absolutely everything you needed to know about a particular city or town and the frequency of the people there. It is a rare and almost-unheard of talent and ability nowadays.)

The Bulgarian spiritual master Peter Deunov, up in the Rila Mountains.

There is even a Whirling Rainbow Prophecy which I would encourage everyone to read. There are parts of it, I can immediately see as relating to certain things happening in the world right now.

The Whirling Rainbow is the promise of peace among all Nations and all people. The Rainbow Race stresses equality and opposes the idea of a superior race that would control or conquer other races. The Rainbow Race brings peace through the understanding that all races are one. The unity of all colors, all creeds working together for the good of the whole, is the idea that is embodied in the Whirling Rainbow. When all pathways to wholeness are respected by all cultures, the prophecy of the Whirling Rainbow will be completed.

Canada just passed Bill C-24, which in essence allows 1st class and 2nd class citizenship to happen, another piece of legislation which that bigot Stephen Harper has created. The gist of it is if you happen to hold dual citizenship and if you get into trouble overseas (i.e like needing to be evacuated in case of war breaking out) the Government of Canada will not help you and also has the right to strip you of your citizenship in case you are arrested overseas. If you were born in Canada, you’ll get full consular help and all the assistance that you need. What the prophecy signals is that people like Harper, bigots and other racial supremacists have their days numbered.

The prophecy of the Whirling Rainbow was very specific.  When the Time of the White Buffalo approaches, the third generation of the White Eyes’ children will grow their hair and speak of love as the healer of the Children of the Earth.
These children will seek new ways of understanding themselves and others. They will wear feathers and beads and paint their faces. They will seek the Elders of the Red Race and drink of their wisdom. These white-eyed children will be a sign that the Ancestors are returning in white bodies, but they are Red on the inside. They will learn to walk the Earth Mother in balance again and  reform the idea of the white chiefs. These children will be tested as they were when they were Red ancestors by unnatural substances like firewater to see if they can remain on the Sacred Path.

I don’t want to go into a discussion of cultural appropriation here just now, but when a corporate retailer like Urban Outfitters starts selling smudge sticks, dream catchers and other items related to Native American spirituality, well then you know there are more and more people who want to walk the Red Road, even if they may not know how to do it correctly. Also, the work of the late Dr. Ian Stevenson, proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that many kids are now being born with full past life memory and from diametrically different cultures. It would stand to reason that many Elders and sages from the past are coming back.

The generation of Flower Children have moved through this part of the prophecy and some have remained on the Sacred Path. Others were lost for a while and are now returning to the natural way of being. Some were disillusioned and have forgotten the high ideals that gave them life when their hearts were young, but others still are waking up and quickening into remembering.

Flower Power!

Flower Power!

This relates directly to the hippies, baby boomers and Flower Children of the 1960s. It’s usually a joke among some people how many of these hippies from the 1960s went on to become ruthless and extremely successful businessmen. (i.e the guys from Ben & Jerry‘s ice cream, Steve Jobs, the CEO of Stonybrook Farms yogurt, Anita Roddick from the Body Shop etc.) It would seem that some of those persons who “sold out” are going to have a change of heart. I know one of the guys from  Ben & Jerry is pushing for GMO labeling on everything.

The beginning of this Fifth World will be like the wobbly pony that on being born would try to use his legs. She said that the wobble would be felt by the the Earth Mother and the changes would occur in the soil and the waters. Inside the Children of the Earth, the wobble would create rolling emotions and feelings that would bring the quickening and the remembering. Colorful dreams would be brought into the Sleep time and Dream time dreams of these newborn Warriors of the Rainbow and they would begin to learn how to Walk in Balance. The changes in our Earth Mother would create fear in her children, which would later lead to the understanding and unity of Our Planet–One People.

Have you been on an emotional roller-caster the last few years? Having strange nonsensical dreams?
Join the club.

The Whirling Rainbow will appear in the form of a Sun Dog to those who are ready to see. The Sun Dog is a full Rainbow Circle around the sun that has bright white lights at the Four Directions. The Sun Dog is a rare natural phenomenon that was named by Native Americans. The name is now used by scientists all over the world. Many Sun Dogs will be seen around the time of the White Buffalo, which will be the Sky Language sign that the Secret and Sacred Teachings are to be shared with all races. Enough of the Children of Earth will be awakened to carry the responsibility of the teachings and the healing process will begin in full swing.
Do any of you know how to "read" rivers?

Do any of you know how to “read” rivers?

Secret and Sacred teachings? Cloud and sky reading like I mentioned earlier. Energetic landscape and earth reading like I do. Water reading. Fire reading. Those gifts and teachings are coming back and if some of you happen to be fortunate enough to be blessed with this ability, develop it, nurture it, run with it and share.

The change in feelings the Children of the Earth would have during the wobble or healing process as the Whirling Rainbows permeated their dreams. They said many will remember their purpose for being on this Earth Walk and will learn to develop their gifts to assist the whole of humanity. Truth will shatter the bonds of separation and goodness will prevail. Some details of Earth changes will come into the dreams of those who are being warned to move where they will be safe. Others will be told that their talents will be needed in areas where the changes occur. Everyone will have to trust their personal vision and follow their hearts in order to assist the whole. Each person will be able to use their gifts with joy and share equally in the bounty created by all those working together.

Have you had the feeling that you have to move and move soon? Do it. (Personally I wouldn’t go anywhere near Yellowstone Park.) Figure out what makes you HAPPY, not what makes you rich, or privileged or will increase your “status”. Here’s a hint: If something makes you happy and gives you feeling of warmth and serenity, it’s probably good for you. If something causes your stomach to churn, the shoulders to tighten up and creates chaos in your mind, it’s probably bad for you.
There will come a day when people of all races, colors, and creeds will put aside their differences. They will come together in love, joining hands in unification, to heal the Earth and all Her children. They will move over the Earth like a great Whirling Rainbow, bringing peace, understanding and healing everywhere they go. Many creatures thought to be extinct or mythical will resurface at this time; the great trees that perished will return almost overnight. All living things will flourish, drawing sustenance from the breast of our Mother, the Earth.
The great spiritual Teachers who walked the Earth and taught the basics of the truths of the Whirling Rainbow Prophecy will return and walk amongst us once more, sharing their power and understanding with all. We will learn how to see and hear in a sacred manner. Men and women will be equals in the way Creator intended them to be; all children will be safe anywhere they want to go. Elders will be respected and valued for their contributions to life. Their wisdom will be sought out. The whole Human race will be called The People and there will be no more war, sickness or hunger forever.
With the astrological conditions of late, and a sighting of a Whirling Rainbow, I’m convinced some new energy is afoot now, the natural world is saying something, something positive, which I don’t think the Powers That Be can deal with completely.
I quote C.S Lewis’ Chronicles of Narnia quite a bit here (since I think he actually channeled some of those books). There’s a scene in “The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe”, when Narnia had been under a 100 year winter and suddenly Father Christmas shows up. He said that he couldn’t make it through all this time because the Witch’s evil magic prevented him from entering Narnia.
“I’ve come at last. She has kept me out for a long time, but I have got in at last. Aslan is on the move. The Witch’s magic is weakening.”

A Vision of Things to Come

Apologies Shifters for not writing much these past few weeks – I’m also in the midst of a shift myself and Montreal went straight from winter right into summer these last few weeks and the warm weather leaves very little inclination to write.  That’s not to say that there isn’t much brewing in my kettle. I’ve been keeping a keen eye on a number of things which I will write about later but this story came up which I think is important enough that it merits an immediate response.

I found out about this story after it was posted on Macy Afterlife: The Beacon‘s blog.  It’s about the unintentional prophecies of Paul Dienach.

Never heard of him? Neither did I until I read that blog post.

Paul Amadeus Dienach was a Swiss-Austrian teacher with delicate health. His father was a German-speaking Swiss and his mother was an Austrian from Salzburg. Dienach travelled to Greece in the Autumn of 1922, after having recovered from a one-year coma caused by a serious illness, hoping that the mild climate would improve his condition.

During his time in Greece, Dienach taught French and German language lessons at the university. Amongst his students was George Papahatzis, a student that Dienach  appeared to favour. Papahatzis describes his teacher as a “very cautious and very modest man that used to emphasize the details”.

It is believed that he eventually  died from tuberculosis in Athens, Greece, or on his way back to his homeland through Italy, probably during the first quarter of 1924.

Before Paul Dienach died, he entrusted Papahatzis with  his diary. Without telling Papahatzis what the notes were, he left him with the simple instructions that he should use the documents to improve his German by translating them from German to Greek.

Papahatzis did as he asked. Initially, he believed Dienach had written a novel, but as he progressed with translations, he soon realized the notes were actually his diary… from the future!

Dienach is thought to have suffered from Encephalitis lethargica, a strange neurological disease that develops an immune system response to overloaded neurons. The first time Dienach fell into a lethargic sleep it was for 15 minutes. The second time it was for a whole year…

During this year that Dienach was in a coma in a Geneva hospital, he claimed to have entered the body of another person, Andreas Northam, who lived in the year 3906 AD.

Once he recovered from his coma, Dienach didn’t talk to anyone about his remarkable experience because he thought everyone would think he was crazy. However, what he did do was write down the entirety of his memory relating to what he had seen of the future. Towards the end of his life, he even stopped his teaching  in order to have as much time as possible to write everything he could remember.

Dienach describes everything he experienced of the environment and people of the year 3906 AD, according to the mind-set and limited knowledge of a 20th century man. This was not an easy task for Dienach. There were many things he claims not to have understood about what he saw, nor was he familiar with all their terms, technology, or the evolutionary path they had followed.

In his memoires, he claims that the people of the future fully understood his peculiar medical situation, which they called “conscious slide“, and they told Dienach as many things as they could in relation to the historical events that took place between the 21st and 39th century. They only thing they didn’t tell him was the exact story of the 20th century, in case Dienach’s consciousness returned back to his original body and era (as he did) – they believed it would be dangerous to let him know his immediate future and the future of his era in case it disturbed or altered the path of history and his life.

By reading Dienach’s story and visions, we have an important peek into the future in relation to mankind, our planet, and our evolution…and a choice to change our current trajectory.

Dienach’s story was published in book for in the 1920s as “The Valley of the Roses” but the church had such a fit over it, that it was quickly forgotten…except not by the Masons. The book has recently been re-published but has still not yet translated from the original Greek which I am hoping will change very soon.

Here is Macy Afterlife’s entire blog post with the addition of some pictures and links which I’ve added.

Life-Swapping: The Amazing Story and Prophecies of Paul Dienach

A teacher of humanities goes into a year-long coma in 1921, assumes life in one of his incarnations—a famous physics professor living in the year 3906—and then returns to his body a year later, in 1922… waking up not only with a crash-course understanding of physics, but with working knowledge of what will transpire on Earth during the next 2,000 years.

Sounds like a pitch for a good sci-fi novel… but it’s actually the true-life story of Swiss schoolteacher Paul Amadeus Dienach, who emerged from a state of protracted narcolepsy in 1922, and recorded all of his vivid recollections in a journal… which would later become a book, The Valley of the Roses.

Paul Dienach was teaching Greek Studies in Switzerland at the time of the incident. Here’s the backstory… or “frontstory?”…:

In 3906, famous physics professor Andreas Northam suffers a serious accident and has a near-death experience (NDE). When he awakens moments later, he speaks in an unknown tongue (presumably 20th-Century Swiss), he doesn’t recognize his family members, and he’s unable to sleep. He’s perpetually awake. Meanwhile, in 1921, schoolteacher Dienach falls into a coma and is perpetually asleep for a year, unable to wake up.

What really happened? My guess is… the finer spirit within us lives multiple concurrent lives… so that the finer spirit within me, for example, is living not just my life as Mark Macy, but various other “concurrent” lives in different times and different places. It’s what we call different incarnations.

In the 1921/3906 case, there’s a finer spirit involved in the lives of both men, and I suspect it becomes disoriented during Northam’s near-death upheaval in 3906. The astral body leaves Northam’s 3906 body and doesn’t return as it normally would after a typical NDE. Instead, Dienach’s 1921 astral body becomes detached from his physical body and is pulled into Northam’s 3906 physical body by mistake… or maybe facilitated by spirit guides???

In any case, that puts 1921 Dienach into a state of perpetual sleep… the astral body’s left the building. And it puts 3906 Northam into a state of perpetual wakefulness… possessed as he is by an unexpected astral guest from the year 1921. Dienach’s astral mind is now experiencing carnal life through the eyes of Northam’s carnal body. It’s got to be perplexing!… experiencing 3906 physical Earth through a 1921 mental template.

It’s certainly perplexing to all of the medical doctors… in both time periods. The 1921 physicians diagnose the inert Dienach with an inexplicable case of “lethargic sleep.” The 3906 physicians do a complete examination of the wide-awake, anxious Northam, can’t explain his symptoms, and attribute them to his NDE.

While Dienach sleeps peacefully in 1921, Northam is vigorously re-educated about all aspects of life on 3906 Earth… including a detailed history of the planet during the past 2,000 years.

Eventually, Dienach’s astral body returns from its futuristic adventure and reenters its 1921 physical body… and Paul Dienach emerges from his coma, eager to record the adventure on paper.

.

The Future of Humanity According to Paul Dienach

The whole idea that Paul Dienach falls into coma in 1921, lives in another incarnation in the year 3906 as physicist Andreas Northam, then awakens in 1922 with future knowledge, probably makes little sense unless you take into account the notion that the mind, memory, and personality continue to exist and function beyond space and time while the physical body is asleep, or comatose, or even dead. It’s just our material body that’s trapped in the illusion of time and space, while our essence enjoys a timeless existence in our astral body… and it’s Dienach’s astral body that detaches from the present carnal life, enters a future carnal life, then returns.

Read more about our spiritual make-up…

Following are some of the insights that Dienach woke up with in 1922… which would be regarded as history by people living in 3906, and as prophecy by people alive in 1922 (and by people today).

.

Upon awakening in 1922 from his year-long coma, Paul Dienach wrote down everything he could remember about his experiences while living in one of his incarnations as physicist Andreas Northam in the year 3906.

Dienach continued to teach Greek studies in Switzerland until he contracted a fatal case of tuberculosis at age 38. Before his death he entrusted his manuscripts to one of his students, George Papahatzis, who would later become Dean at Panteion University, founded in Athens in 1927.

An obscure version of the manuscript was published in German in the 1920s, and a recent version was published in Greek under the title “The Valley of the Roses.” At present it is available only in Greek.

Following is a synopsis of that book… the events as remembered by Paul Dienach that will transpire on Earth over the next 2,000 years. Bear in mind, this is the illusory sense of “time” we’re talking about… so don’t write the dates in your calendar in indelible ink. Also, this article is based on several translations of excerpts from the book, and may not be fully in line with the actual book.

2000-2300

paul-dienach-chronicles-future

Humanity begins to solve overpopulation, ecological destruction, greenhouse gases, climate change, famine, tyranny, and regional conflict. Discoveries are made in the interactions of electromagnetic energies, gravity, spiritual energy (etherodynamics), and antigravity, resulting in a Nobel Prize in the physical sciences.

Most of Earth’s gravitational energies are attributed to solar radiation. Science can photograph spiritual energies , and more and more people can see the spirits moving in and out of our world by switching on their inner “etheric vision,” as psychic channels do today.

Economic systems become more humane, wise, and based on good will. People are freed from the slavery of financial survival, affording them more time for inner work and spiritual development. The monetary system goes extinct, child mortality becomes a rarity, and fossil fuels are replaced by sustainable energies.

Our carnivorous inclinations fade away as we become vegetarians.

Mars is colonized in 2204 by 20 million people, but they are all destroyed in 2265 by a massive natural disaster, and the goal of future Mars colonization is then abandoned.

Colony on Mars...not a good idea.

Colony on Mars…not a good idea.

2300-2400

A major world war erupts in 2309 with widespread destruction. Humanity survives, and a world government is established in 2396 to prevent such disasters in the future. Leaders elected through direct voting from all nations are mostly scientists, engineers, and humanitarians… no longer politicians or businessmen. A balance of power is sustained by a working alliance among the private sector (e.g. transnational corporations), national governments, and the world government.

Banks and stock exchanges are now extinct, replaced with a sort of “vote-money” (which is probably an electronic measure of real value of products, resources, and energy).

There’s still some private property, although world resources have been redistributed in such a way that everyone is afforded at least a basic, healthy standard of living.

Contact is established and relationships develop with extraterrestrial civilizations, and the public is kept apprised.

First contact.

First contact.

Conflicts among large groups are rare, and large-scale war is a thing of the past.

2400-2600

The threat of global totalitarianism begins to rise as savage groups begin to undermine the world government through cyber-piracy. By 2600, the private sector and national governments play only a minor role in world affairs as people have acquired a planetary consciousness. World government begins to work extraordinarily well as the savage groups are quelled and direct voting becomes a way of life.

World transportation is primarily through spiritual (etheric) energies and flying discs.

2600-3400

While equality has been achieved for basic necessities, there’s still some inequity in technological advancement from region to region.

More and more people become telepathic, and science makes tremendous strides. Much is learned about the interior of the planet, including an “internal sun and atmosphere” and its history spanning billions of years. Cities are built in the Earth’s interior.

MAP of Inner Earth

In medical science, pharmaceutical drugs play a small role, replaced by new treatments in sound, color, light, and meditation.

Despite these major advances, humans remain largely materially oriented and spiritually sluggish… measuring their personal success in terms of their possessions and technologies.

3400-4000

Beginning in 3382, a spiritual renaissance begins to quickly transform the world into a state of “hypervision,” in which most people achieve direct knowledge through connections with the finer spiritual light. People on Earth can now create through intention, as is done in the finer spiritual realms.

We enter a new Golden Age of World Civilization. Many of the leaders in world government are now universal creators, rather than just scientists and engineers. The new leaders combine the qualities of philosopher, scientist, artist, mystic, and more.

Everyone now has access to free clothes, food, housing, transportation, entertainment, scientific products, and creative expression. There is no private property. Everyone is vegetarian, and there are no zoos… no animal slavery or abuse of any kind.

Flying discs are obsolete, replaced by a new form of transportation involving “field gates” (which are probably portals between the physical and spiritual realms in which material vehicles and their occupants are raised to a finer, nonphysical vibration, moved instantly to another location in three-dimensional space, and rematerialized). These spiritual technologies are introduced to Earth by other galactic civilizations, now that humanity is ready (which apparently means that humans have finally transformed their noble-savage nature into a predominantly noble one).

Read more about our noble-savage nature…

By today’s standards, the future humans would seem naïve, sensitive, sincere, unpretentious, and free of cunning ulterior motives. People can sense each other’s feelings and intentions, so secrecy is no longer part of human culture.

The day will come when all you have to do is look at someone's aura and you'll have them figured out completely.

The day will come when all you have to do is look at someone’s aura and you’ll have them figured out completely.

There are no material inequalities, only inequalities of reputation, honor, and public appraisal.

People work the equivalent of two years over a lifetime, which by now is much longer than lifetimes of the 21st Century, and they don’t measure success by material possessions, but by spiritual work within and by their service to those around them.

Well, these visions that came to Paul Dienach during his coma certainly resonate with the views and intentions of this site. May your greatest dreams come true, Paul!

Major Gateway Ahead for Serious Lightworkers

Powerful solar eclipse happening March 20, 2015

Powerful solar eclipse happening March 20, 2015

For my astrology-oriented and Pagan/White magick-oriented readers,  this is just a quick head’s up about this Friday’s solar eclipse.

It is literally taking place with the Sun in the final degree of Pisces, before entering Aries, meaning, it is taking place at the very, very end of the Zodiac wheel before entering a completely new cycle. This is a serious gate-opening for those of you who pray, meditate or do ceremony and ritual which helps you get into that mystical zone within yourself.

Detail of Pisces and Aries from stained glass window in Chartres Cathedral, France, a big-time initiation center dating back to pre-Christianity and Druidic times. (And Christians aren't supposed to believe in astrology, ha ha)

Detail of Pisces and Aries from stained glass window apparently in Chartres Cathedral, France, a big-time initiation center dating back to pre-Christianity and Druidic times.

Meanings of eclipses from a spiritual point of view are wide, varied and can be confusing. Some tradition including the Hindu one look upon them as something negative as an opening and chance for ghosts and demons to enter Earth and wreak havoc by influencing people negatively by muddling their minds and hearts.  Native Americans, particularly the Navajo on the other hand see it as a time when the earth is repainted and renewed by the Sunpainters.

Old man Saturn and his Scythe, reaping away the old and unnecessary.

Because the astrological players include some heavyweights including Old Man Saturn, the planet of time and karma, Uranus, the rebel planet of unexpected change and Pluto, the planet of deep transformation, along with the solar eclipse, involving a dance between the Earth, Moon and Sun AND the Spring Equinox, stuff is gonna  go down. Australian Sabian Symbol astrologer, Lynda Hill has some very interesting things to say about this solar eclipse.

Giant Gate ahead.

Giant Gate ahead.

I’m deciding to look at it as a Gate. An old one is closing and another one is opening. Don’t sit still. Don’t think too much about things. Do. Put the past to rest. Forgive the douche bags in your life and realize they are only operating and acting out of a limited amount of knowledge and information. Put out feelers for your dreams and anchor them by offering some tobacco to the Earth. Do and apply yourself towards things you normally wouldn’t. There is a strange energy about all this which seems to be self-correcting, pulling people into situations they are meant to be in and yanking others out from situations they aren’t meant to be in.

And So it Goes…

“This future is joy and light. Do not let yourself be influenced by those who predict only difficulties and misfortunes: it is simply because they do not know what the future really is or how to build it. Misfortunes are the past, not the future. Before the future can present itself – that is to say, your true future as sons and daughters of Cosmic Intelligence – it is waiting for you to finish drawing lessons from the past. This future is on the move: since you are creating it, you are already beginning to live it. One year is ending and another is about to begin… But before thinking about the coming year, turn your attention  for a moment to the one that is departing, and speak to it, for a year is a living being, and so you can talk to it. When you leave it, ask it to remember you. As it is alive, it does not remain idle: it has recorded not only your actions, but also your wishes, feelings and thoughts. On the last day it reports to the lords of destiny, and it connects you to the new year: you must be able to say goodbye to it before it goes for good. As for the new year, you can begin to prepare for it consciously, by setting a goal for yourself: to get rid of a bad habit, develop a certain quality, put a plan into action for the good of all. With this thought, this wish, it is as if you were placing a first stone, and then all the benevolent spirits in nature will bring you their help, so that you  can carry out your plan. These are the things you should be concerned with today: welcoming the new year in  and placing yourself under the protection of the light.”

Hope you Shifters have a peaceful and joyful holiday season in whatever form you celebrate it, whether it’s Christmas, Hanukkah, the Wiccan Yule, the Winter Solstice.

I have not been writing a lot in recent weeks mostly because I have been pre-occupied with other things and ideas which I’m working on. Long story short, while I am not ending this blog I have made the decision that it’s now time to stop talking the talk and walk the walk. Part of the problem of why I decided to minimize my presence online is that it’s just not enough for me anymore. Religious and spiritual traditions the world over, without exception, emphasize the importance and need for community. The Buddhists call it the “sangha”, Christians might call it the living Church. I realize that online forums, social media, the blogosphere, yoga studios and whatnot, even if they are populated by some really well-meaning folks, are not a sufficient enough substitute for the real thing. So I’ve decided to take these discussions and some of my ideas offline and into the real world in an attempt to meet and discuss with real people, face-to-face and in real-time. Mostly via local Meetup groups, random Craigslist postings, and see where that goes.

Another thing which I want to focus on is on creating an individualized spiritual travel company. For those of you who are familiar with my posts from the early days nearly 3 years ago, energetic travel and travel to these “hot spots” plays a huge part of who I am and my own spiritual development. There are places which for whatever reason, for long-forgotten historical reasons, sacred pilgrimage sites imbued with the prayers and aspirations of millions of pilgrims and spiritual seekers, some places which are dormant and need to be re-activated where the energy is far more conducive to accessing higher realities where I was able to have certain spiritual breakthroughs which I could have never had if I stayed on in Montreal. There are some parts of the world which are connected to certain spiritual issues people struggle with, other places are connected to specific chakras and still others connected to certain illnesses. I figure since I am actually qualified to do spiritual assessments on people and because I do have contacts to healers, shamans, Elders and my own first-hand experience in certain parts of the world, why not combine all that and create programs for serious spiritual travellers who want a genuine, deeper experience with a guide there beside them, which these group tours just don’t offer and can’t? It’s not just about being a guide, but actually entering into a healing relationship with these persons and walk with them as they go through the process. Travel can be lots of things to lots of people but for me, it’s always been a modality for transformation. It’s for women who have hit a certain plateau in their life and are now looking for something more. You gotta start somewhere, right?

For anyone who wants to know more, drop me an email or we can do a Skype session sometime and I can tell you all about it.

Best wishes to every last one of you in this New Year! I hope all your individual journeys deepen and become richer. I get the feeling 2015 will be year where many of us who put the hours in, finally turn a corner.

Cheers,
EER

View from top of Mount Constitution on a sunnier day than when I went.

View from top of Mount Constitution on far sunnier day than when I went.

“Even peaks that are not especially high but are prominent and isolated often have an angel in charge. For instance I observed one at Mt. Constitution in the San Juan Islands in Washington. This appears to be the highest point of land on an island which is fairly central in the group, and from its top there is a magnificent view over hundreds of islands on all sides…The angel in charge is one of special power, remarkable in proportion to the peak. He is the guardian of all the islands and makes this point his main center; he has saturated it with his special atmosphere. He has both power and dignity and is of a steady, slow temperament, but especially marked by kindliness and wisdom.  He takes a remarkable interest in human beings and has, indeed, a real fondness for them.  He seems to have a certain scheme which he is working out. He wants to maintain a special atmosphere throughout the islands and this influences his fairies.  It also makes them friendly and helpful to humanity, for this is his wish.  He has also established a feeling that there shall be no barriers.  He has had a wonderful piece of good fortune because a state part (Moran State Park) has been established in such a form as to take in his particular peak and a large area around it.  This is an animal sanctuary in which there are many deer and other fine wild things and magnificent trees…I also think he has managed to impress many of his ideas on the human beings in and about the peak, for his genuine friendliness towards people enables him to understand and guide them…High up on the mountain are several lakes and these are the home of particularly fine specimens of the freshwater fairies…What is remarkable about this place is that it is not only a sanctuary for animals but also a resort for fairies and even angels from the islands and the mainland. The peculiarly lovely combination of sea and mountain and lakes and forest preserve, protects and creates a splendid place, and the powerful personality of the angel draws these beings. They come for counsel and change…He always makes a special effort to help human beings who come to the mountain, and I think many people feel his benign presence even if they do not know of his existence. The magnificent expanse of sea and sky, the distant mainland and snow peaks far off key up the sensitive visitor so that he has a better than usual chance to respond to the presence of this most ancient, wise and stimulating inhabitant.”

Dora Van Gelder
“The Real World of Fairies, A First Person Account”

OrcasIslandWA
Orcas Island is the largest of the San Juan Islands off the coast of Washington State and straddles the US/Canada border. It is full of VERY wealthy Washingtonians, not surprising since both Microsoft and Boeing are both based in Seattle. Practically everyone here drives a Land Rover. Get out of the villages and head into the woods and it’s all moss-covered giant Douglas fir trees, quiet private coves, and secret meadows. And then there’s the intense and sudden fog which comes off the sea and shrouds everything in minutes. One minute you can see the next island and the next you can’t see anything past 5 feet.

Taking the ferry ride over from Anacortes, I saw a few Orca whales. I thought it was strange that practically every time I went near the ocean water, I was seeing a whale while other people pay upwards of $85 an hour on whale watching boat tours with no guarantee of seeing anything.  I guess the gift of Whale medicine was real.

Moran State Park entrance.

Moran State Park entrance.

I went to Moran State Park and drove up to the top, to the observation tower. I couldn’t see anything because of the intense fog that was there. From where I stood, it was like looking out over a cloud field, like what you see when you look out the window of an airplane. The fog can linger for hours.

The lookout tower at the very top.

The lookout tower at the very top.

When I got to the tower at the summit, as expected the place was chock-full of with tourists and hikers, not a place to do any sort of work. Since Van Gelder mentioned the lakes near the top, in her book, I figured I might as well go there and may be it would be much more quiet and private. She said it was near the top. In actuality, it is a steep hike which lasts about 2 km. It looks like nothing on paper, but it’s quite a difficult hike, especially returning uphill. It took me 45 minutes to go down and 2 hours to get back up.

moran map

The forest is indeed beautiful; giant Douglas firs, huge old-growth forest trees, lovely moss everywhere. As you can see from the map, there are three lakes near the top, Mountain Lake, and 2 smaller lakes which are only separated by a tiny sliver of land which are called the Twin Lakes, so I went there since I liked the name and they were closer.

Signage

There were a few hikers on the trail but everyone was far apart that you could forget about them. I wasn’t sure where to go so I decided to hike along the edge of the two lakes and see if something interesting came up. So I went along the edge of one lake and eventually found a beautiful mossy slope going up. I looked up and saw that there was a path there and even further up, someone had made a rock cairn, not at all obvious from the main trail.

Not the rock cairns I saw...

Not the rock cairns I saw…

I scrambled up the trail and soon found myself in a mossy, flat glen, with a clearing in the middle, completely encircled by the trees. There was even a rocky knoll jutting out at the head of the glen, everything, the rocks, the trees and the forest floor were all covered with the thickest, softest moss imaginable. It almost looked like a raised daïs with a throne and I figured with the perfect circle of trees and the clearing, and the privacy and intense quiet and the throne-like rock structure, this was as good as it was going to get. “Bingo” I thought to myself. I took off my shoes. Again intense quiet here, not like Crater Lake which felt muffled, probably because of the altitude, but this forest was like something right out of Narnia, it felt so alive and quietly vibrant.

Digory Kirke in the Wood Between the Worlds, in C.S Lewis' "The Magician's Nephew

Digory Kirke and Polly Plummer in the Wood Between the Worlds, in C.S Lewis’ “The Magician’s Nephew, illustrated by Pauline Baynes

There’s a part in C.S Lewis’s Narnia book, “The Magicians Nephew” where Digory Kirke and Polly Plummer were in a place called the “Wood between the Worlds”, a quiet, lush forest where you could actually feel things were growing.

The trees grew close together and were so leafy that he could get no glimpse of the sky. All the light was green light that came through the leaves: but there must have been a very strong sun overhead, for this green light was bright and warm. It was the quietest wood you could possibly imagine. There were no birds, no insects, no animals and no wind. You could almost feel the trees growing…You could almost feel the trees drinking up the water with their roots. This wood was very much alive. When he tried to describe it afterwards, Digory always said. It was a rich place: as *rich* as plum-cake.”

The feeling was very similar to that. I lay down the tobacco and stayed for about an hour. I then headed back to the main trail to complete the rest of trail around the Twin Lakes and then back up to the tower.

Trail back to the top

Trail back to the top…

About halfway up the mountain. I heard some branches breaking. I looked behind me and saw that it was a lovely doe on the trail, maybe 20 feet away. She wasn’t afraid or anything. We looked at each other for a few seconds and then she pranced off. The next day as I left the island on the ferry, I had my third encounter with a whale, another Orca.

A lot of things came to me after I processed the trip and the various places I visited. My usual readers already know that David Icke’s name comes up regularly here. Really, he’s in essence taking a very old idea and putting it into more modern terms. You don’t have to believe everything you read or what others say. There are plenty of resources to look up and then make up your own minds.

However, if in some way our reality/matrix  has been hijacked by something evil; inter-dimensionals, bad spirits, demons, jinns, reptilians, whatever you want to call it, and if they have had a direct hand in creating these artificial hierarchical systems of control, manufactured scarcity, unnecessary depletion and pollution of this planet’s resources and the uglification of every square foot of earth they can get, then it is not hard to see that it is a true death cult. It hardly leaves any room for real beauty, peace and grace. At this rate, there will be no need to go to Mars.  It will be  re-created right here.

A typical 'industrial park" building. The kind of place many people work in . A dead zone if you ask me...

A typical ‘industrial park” building. The kind of place many people work in . A dead zone if you ask me…

People and places aren’t always what they seem and sometimes you wonder if there’s any integrity left among some human beings. They might have been successful in manipulating many under their influence, but they forgot one crucial point;  they completely overlooked the natural world. The animals, plants, trees, the stars, the Sun, the water, the wind, and the land operate on a completely different frequency which they can’t control, understand or tune into. On the other hand, we can if we really wanted to. That’s our advantage. It also explains why they are hell-bent on destroying any vestige of these other forms of intelligence and consciousness using some people to do their dirty work (they are even trying to make apps for apes now!). Once you decide to enter into a relationship with the natural world, it transforms your outlook and interactions completely. You begin seeing things you didn’t before, it starts heightening your senses, you start understanding more. You don’t have to believe me; scientists are pretty much saying the same thing.

One thing about Native/shamanic teachings and Gnostic teachings, they acknowledge that conscious life can exist in many, many different forms and give them due respect as equals. It’s what they’ve been trying to teach most humans to understand while other formal “religions” (or any other  constructed “ism”) have been trying to do their best to destroy these teachings and eradicate this information from getting into the hands of most people.

Seneca Hawk Elder, Grandmother Edna Gordon ended her earth walk last year at the advanced age of 93 but before she did, she published a book, “Voice of the Hawk Elder” which is mainly comprised of her sayings, thoughts, opinions and the kind of old-fashioned homespun wisdom you just don’t see anymore. She said we’re living in a Popcorn-Potato Chip kind of world.

“It’s a Popcorn-Potato Chip world we’re living in today. We got fast food for the stomach and fast food for the soul. Maybe don’t nourish you, but it’s quick and it’s easy. Bet you never ate the REAL potato salad like we made in those days. Oh, my, it was the world’s best meal by itself! Nobody can seem to make that REAL potato salad today. Today’s kids think potatoes come instant or in chips in plastic bags or all greasy french fried like McDonald’s or Burger King. They think corn comes popped with imitation butter on it, already salted! That’s why I say it’s become a popcorn-potatochip world.
It ain’t real. It’s all imitation.”

She’s right.

It’s a reasonable facsimile of the haze most people operate under everyday and take for reality. I’d go even further and say many people have forgotten what real life and real consciousness is supposed to look like.
If you’ve got an hour to spare, give her a listen. There are some genuine golden nuggets of wisdom here for those who really want to hear. And you don’t have to travel all the way to the Pacific Northwest to get it either 🙂

(P.S Gregg Prescott, copying isn’t cool and I really don’t appreciate the fact that you did in this article and then tried fobbing it off as information you yourself know. You cited Christopher Penczak at the bottom. Penczak is firmly in the Pagan Wicca world – nothing there about Native American spiritual stuff while you suddenly mention it which you’ve never touched before on your website. Do you actually do any spiritual work at all or do you just fleece information from those of us who actually go out there and are trying to figure this stuff out on our own? Shame on you.)

October 2014 Eclipse and Fire Grand Trine

lunar-eclipse-8-oct-2014

Normally, I would be posting my favorite astrologer, Carl Boudreau’s monthly astrological outlook video but Carl has stopped doing videos now and instead posts written reports on his Facebook page. If you like astrology filled with wisdom, you can’t ask for better than Carl.

Having said that and after having scanned many videos online of what diverse astrologers are saying, it looks like next week’s lunar eclipse and the Fire Grand Trine underscoring the whole thing  are a bit of a doozy. Some astrologers have a tendency to panic (i.e astrologer to the fashion jet-set, Susan Miller) and then there are others who are just a little too happy.

I really like Steve Judd‘s (aka The Caustic Astrologer) videos because they are short and concise and get to the point without too much astrological jargon, (say unlike Tom Lescher, who just comes across as a typical West Coast flake. Why spend 20 minutes belaboring when you can say it in 5? Hey Lescher, don’t think I didn’t notice that you copied me by comparing white water rafting to the astrological climate, like the way I did last spring when I talked about April’s Grand Cross. Too much doobage and not enough real, hard-core rafting methinks…)

All astrologers are unanimous: There are some major changes ahead and the end of an era is in sight. Instead of fearing it, embrace it. Whatever isn’t working for you, let it be purged, don’t grasp on so hard. Even at first if you don’t want to end or let go of something, sometimes later on when we look back in hindsight, we realize it was the best thing that could have happened to us.

Enjoy the Silence

Crater Lake

“Silence is inhabited by countless beings, in forests, lakes, seas, mountains, and underground too – Cosmic Intelligence has placed inhabitants everywhere. Even fire is inhabited, so too is the ether, the sun, the stars – the entire universe is inhabited. So wherever you go, in the mountains, in the forests, by rivers, lakes or oceans, if you want to be like an awakened being, aspiring to a life that is subtler and filled with more light, do not disturb the silence of these places. Show that you are aware of the presence of etheric creatures living there. When you approach them, begin by greeting them; show them your respect, your love, and ask them to give you their blessings. These creatures will catch sight of you from afar and, filled with wonder at your attitude, will come running to shower you with their presents of joy, light, love and pure energy. And you will return home with a much greater idea of what true Life is.”

– Omraam Mikhael Aivanhov

Very few things can prepare you for your first sight of Crater Lake.
It’s not just the unearthly blue of the water, it is also the sheer size of the place. It looks a lot smaller in photos than in real life. The lake itself is about six miles wide and the drive around the rim is about 53 km. Many people hike the rim trail and for most of the year, the lake is inaccessible since it receives almost 12 feet of snow per year and even when I visited in the second week of August, there were still patches of snow at the waterline. If you want to have your breath taken away, forget the Grand Canyon and the tourist circus that place has become and go to Crater Lake instead.
Crater Lake is a lake that was created when Mount Mazama blew its top 7700 years ago. The dome collapsed, forming a caldera and the snow run-off over the years is really where the water comes from. The deepest lake in the US and the seventh deepest lake in the world, the water is ice-cold and very, very pure. Wizard Island, on the western end of the lake was formed from a volcanic cinder cone and geologist say that one day, it will blow again as well.
Some Native American tribes still do vision quests as a rite of passage for young men in that tribe.

Some Native American tribes still do vision quests as a rite of passage for young men in that tribe.

Depending on which tribe you listen to, this place is either cursed or holy.
Local Klamath Indians still come here to do vision quests, which usually involves fasting for a few days under the guidance of an Elder, holding ceremony and then diving into the frigid water to receive the vision. On the other hand, some Klamath Elders and Modoc Elders consider the placed accursed and that to gaze on the waters is to invite death and avoid the place completely. In the past, Natives would deliberately lie to many of the early white explorers and settlers to throw them off from finding the lake and Wizard Island since they consider the place haunted and evil. They believe this because their stories still record when Mount Mazama erupted and apparently the force of the eruption was 42 times stronger than when nearby Mount St. Helen’s blew in 1980, so you can just imagine the devastation. Imagine something along the lines of Mount Vesuvius and what happened to the inhabitants of Pompeii and Herculaneum. I’m sure that kind of destruction leaves an etheric footprint.

Mount St. Helen’s erupting in 1980

Many, many, many stories about the place have developed over the years. UFO sightings are rife and apparently in February 1997, a fighter jet was seen pursuing UFOs over the lake and that evening, a sonic boom was heard throughout Western Oregon. Sasquatch/Bigfoot sightings happen regularly as well and several park rangers claim to have followed a large, dark, foul-smelling creature through the woods until it started throwing pinecones at them somewhere along the Southern Rim Road. Many people have gone missing  over the years and rangers regularly see fires on Wizard Island in the middle of the night to only go investigate and find out no one is there and there was no evidence of any campfire. (Public boating isn’t allowed there, the only way to get to Wizard island is to take the official boat tour which involves a gruelling 1 mile hike down the rim from Cleetwood Cove.)
Even the waters are supposedly haunted. Some people claim to have seen a dragon, serpent-like creature in the water a “block long”.  Until recently, that could be dismissed  as legend and a tall tale. However, in recent years scientists discovered that new life forms have been found in the coldest parts of the ocean, thanks to deep sea vents, volcanic fissures in the ocean which create  just enough pockets of warmth for lifeforms to develop despite the absence of light and despite the cold temperatures of the water. In effect, most biology textbooks had to be re-written when they found that out since it was assumed you needed light for life to exist. And guess what? Crater Lake has deep lake hydrothermal vents since the area is still seismically active and volcanically dormant, not dead.
Picture of a hydrothermal worm which lives on the sea floor.

Picture of an actual hydrothermal worm which lives on the seafloor.

I drove in coming in from the North Entrance, since it far less busier, through the ancient lava field, now an open field with the odd, lonely pine tree standing here and there. It was a hot, humid day and the place was crawling with thousands of tourists.
Skell Head lookout point

Skell Head lookout point

Stopping at various look-out points, scoping it out and getting a feel for the place, the very first thing I noticed while standing on the rim was the immense, almost muffling silence of the place. You can feel the wind against you but you won’t hear it. People can be talking loudly barely 10 feet away from you stand but it somehow sounds muffled. This wasn’t the rich, almost buzzing-like golden silence I experienced in places like Cappadocia, Turkey or Moray, Peru or the soft silence of untouched forests. This was the kind of silence you feel like when you’re being watched. Oppressive and strong.
Crater Lake Lodge and one of the wind-bent trees there

Crater Lake Lodge and one of the wind-bent trees there

I had a vague idea of taking the boat ride tour the next day, out to Wizard Island to offer tobacco.  Online reservations were full, so I headed over to the Crater Lake Lodge, a posh but rustic overpriced hotel to buy my ticket for the next day at an automated teller machine. It turned out there was one, last available ticket. I was about to buy it but then before I could press the “Buy” button, something, a sudden feeling, told me to back off. I didn’t buy the ticket but that night while researching about the lake online and trying to figure out a secluded spot I could go to, I found out about all the bad mojo the lake and area have.  I didn’t feel bad anymore about missing the boat tour.
Glad I missed that boat....

Glad I missed that boat….

The next day I returned. I left the main hiking trail and given that I was in running shoes and not proper hiking boots, I veered away from the edge of the rim trail. There are no guard rails and if you go down, you’re going all the way down since it is insanely steep. I found a meadow, not far from the highest point along the rim,  and went to the center of a grove of Whitebark Pines, pine trees which have grown up deformed because of the strong westerly winter winds here.
A Typical twisted but ancient Whitebark Pine found around Crater Lake.

A typically twisted but ancient Whitebark Pine found around Crater Lake.

I noticed a giant blue jay sitting in the tree but not squawking as they usually do, blue jays are normally very noisy birds. Again, a silence you could cut up into pieces. I lay the tobacco down and did my thing. I’ll only say this; there are some exceptionally powerful beings and entities here. Very powerful.  For anyone who wants to come here to do serious spiritual work, you need to come with an attitude of reverence, respect and humility.  I didn’t see anything but I certainly felt the presence of *something*. When I looked up, there were now 3 giant crested blue jays in that same tree staring down at me. No singing, no chirping just complete silence as they flew off one by one.
What I learned is that even when it comes to good places or bad places, if you respect a place, it will respect you right back. Intention is everything.  Even when we think we’re all alone, in the middle of nowhere, we never really are. Something is always watching over us

The Language of Nature

“The Danish writer, J. Anker Larsen, in his novel “The Philosopher’s Stone”, speaks of the contacts that humans can have with nature.  He speaks of the “open world” and the “closed world”, explaining how nature opens up to sensitive, innocent people, particularly to children, whereas it stays closed to the majority, who have not learned to receive the vibratory energies of the subtle world: trees, lakes, rivers and mountains are nothing more than lifeless landscapes, and they have no communication with them.  Those, however, who live in the open world feel not only that they are part of nature but that all of nature is part of them. So when they touch a rock, a tree, an animal or any other creature, they are aware that they live in this rock, tree, animal or creature, that they are part of the soul and being of everything. In order to speak to animals, plants and stones and be understood by them, we must know where to find the entity governing the realm they belong to. The entity which rules over the animal kingdom is found on the astral plane of the universe; the one ruling the plant kingdom in found on the mental plane; the one in charge of the mineral kingdom is on the causal plane, which is so far away that stones to us appear lifeless. However stones are alive; they are alive and conscious….All the time, wherever we are, we can be in contact with all living beings. The language does not matter, because thoughts (and even more so words) produce waves of energy which influence all creation. Those who have worked for a long time at controlling their inner lives will be able to possess the power of the Word. Their purified and illumined lives release a power which permits them to take the etheric double of a tree, a flower, a rock or a spring and use it to serve the world. Yes, for example, they can speak to a rock and ask it to go to the aid of someone fragile, to make that person more stable and stronger, like the rock. They can also go to a spring and ask it to purify and bring new life to their friends… Nature spirits are waiting for you to ask for their help and protection. If you are unaware of them, what can they do? I am sure some of you are thinking as you listen to me, ” What on Earth is he telling us? We are living in a scientific and technological century and he wants us to believe  that we can be in touch with elemental spirits and that they will help us!”  Well, well, well, let me tell you that I believe it. The examples are numerous and the methods are for you to choose.”

– Omraam Mikhael Aivanhov
or-rrt
My favorite kind of vacation is the kind where I can throw my tent, sleeping bag and foam pad into a giant backpack, fly to a particular destination, pick up a car rental at the airport, throw everything into the car trunk and then hit the road ASAP. I figure when you’re you’re young and able-bodied, that’s the time to do the trips which can be physically demanding, like hiking the Grand Canyon, investigating remote valleys in Cappadocia, or hacking my way through overgrown bush to get to a remote historical site. Art galleries in Florence or palaces in St. Petersburg are not going anywhere, I figure I can see those when I’m old.
Aivanhov’s quote above is in line with the teachings I received when I spent time with First Nations wisdom keepers and Elders. That there is life behind all of creation even if we don’t always see it or understand it. In fact, when you do a sweat lodge and the heated rocks are brought in, they are referred to as Grandfathers and Grandmothers and a certain respect is also given to them.
So it was after receiving the sign from my stay at the Aivanhov retreat that I found myself on a flight to Seattle in order to investigate a few places in the Pacific Northwest. Camping along the way in state parks, driving back roads over remote mountains, ducking into motels when it became too cold, eating at diners or splurging on seafood feasts thanks to Oregon’s 350 mile wild seacoast, for years the area had been beckoning me and I finally made it there.
A few things sparked my interest about that part of the United States. After having visited New Age circuses like Sedona, Mount Shasta and California in general, I’m always on the lookout for those forgotten and overlooked magical spaces which have escaped the blight of commercialism and mainstream attention. I figured since I was going to be in Oregon, it would also give me a chance to visit Crater Lake and Orcas Island which I will write about in the next few days and weeks.

Still a big deal in the Pacific Northwest

Aside from Sasquatch/Bigfoot sightings which people still report, it was reading about the “Wheeler Moment” which happens regularly in the Nehalem Bay, an almost regular occurrence of synchronicity the people in the area seem to experience almost daily and how locals always tell people who visit here “to make a wish” particularly in sight of Neahkahnie Mountain. It is a mountain which Native tribes consider to be holy and  “the place of the Supreme deity” in their language. After doing some research, it seems there is a portal or vortex there, an extremely powerful and pure one which some local spiritualists work with as well. Another strange coincidence:  Robert M. Pirsig, the writer of the classic “Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance” has a teacher who also lives near the base of Neahkahnie Mountain. Practically everyone who visits the area or the closest village, Manzanita, seems to come away with some insight.
Nothing will prepare you for the temperate rainforests of the Pacific Northwest. It literally is like stepping into some primeval world straight out of a J.R.R Tolkien book. Shades of green that you can’t imagine, crystal-like waterfalls everywhere, canopied forests and lush ferns and wild mushrooms abound. Then there is the moss, which starts to cover tree trunks, drapes from the trees, covers rocks, bridges and the forest floor.
The sense of vitality and of the abundance of the life force  is almost overwhelming. The moss was so soft that I could hike barefoot on some trails. The only sad part was seeing how much of Oregon’s wilderness has been sacrificed to logging companies. One minute you’re driving through a fairy tale scene, the next you’re in some desolate post-Apocalyptic landscape.

I tried swimming in the water pool, the water is freezing cold.

Aside from the Wheeler Moment, Neahkahnie seems to be shrouded in mystery and stories of pirate treasure still keeps people coming. A rock formation called the Indian Maiden guards the base of the mountain and whales are usually spotted from the lookout point.
Indian Maiden Rock

Neahkahnie Mountain dominates the skyline of Nehalem Bay, which includes the villages of Manzanita, Wheeler and Nehalem. It’s a small community comprised mostly of fisherman and given the abundance of seafood which is harvested from the bay, it’s easy to see why. I made my way to Neahkahnie Mountain, offered tobacco like I always do when I visit a holy place, and spent an amazing afternoon meditating on Manzanita Beach. I’m not going to share what I meditated on and what came to me only to say that I got my insights a bit later on after the trip and the experiences at Crater Lake and Orcas Island are also taken into consideration. The next day I stopped off in Wheeler to investigate a bit more while on my way to Cape Lookout State Park. As always, I asked for a sign that I had been heard.
Cape Lookout State Park:
Driving along Highway 1, along the coast is a “must”. Everyone goes on about California but honestly I found Oregon even better.  Samuel H. Boardman Scenic Corridor has my vote over Big Sur any day. With parts of the coast resembling Maine’s rocky shoreline, other seaside villages which would rival Italy’s Amalfi coast with homes dramatically sticking to cliffs (i.e Oceanside), the purest soft-sand beaches with haystack rock formations and arches which go on for miles, you can walk all by yourself for miles at a time and not encounter anyone else.
The little village of Oceanside.

The little village of Oceanside.

Number 1: No pretentious attitudes. Number 2: Oregon lawmakers and environmentalist had the foresight to keep their beaches public for the use of all in perpetuity and prohibited any kind of development. Meaning, you have the most stunning, remote beaches and they are open to exploration by anyone with nary an ugly condo development on the beach itself anywhere. Number 3) Dogs are allowed on the beaches and everyone picks up after them. Some towns have unfortunately become tourist traps like Seaside and Cannon Beach, but there are still amazing hidden gems there like Manzanita, Oceanside and Yachats.
Add to that, the mystical fog which seems to shroud everything in the early morning hours, coming in off the sea and hitting the coastal mountains and cliffs, families out on the beach investigating what the night tide brought into the tide pools like jelly fish, crabs and razor clams and just the sense of space the whole place gives you.
Trail heading out to the beach at Cape Lookout State Park

Trail heading out to the beach at Cape Lookout State Park

I came here to camp and after setting my tent up decided to walk along the long beach. I was blessed to hit it on an exceptionally bright sunny, cloudless but windy day. The water was an aquamarine blue and the sound of the thunderous waves would rejuvenate even most tired of souls. I eventually found a lonely spot, away from the families and dogs I could just sink into, lean against a piece of driftwood, read a book, take in the salty air and just take it easy. I was less than 50 meters away from the water when about 100 meters away from me, I suddenly saw a giant dark, black-grey dorsal fin pop out of the water.
I of course thought it was a shark but then a spout of water shot up through the air. Then a second, a third, fourth, fifth and sixth. It was a pod of whales sunning and feeding themselves. I spent the rest of that afternoon hanging out with them, silently communicating with them for hours until sunset, when one by one, I did not see any more water spouting every few seconds and they swam off.
In Native lore, when you have an unexpected animal encounter, it means you are being gifted with a certain medicine, that a certain animal totem-animal spirit is bringing you a message from the Spirit world. In my case I understood that whatever I had petitioned for back on Neahkahnie Mountain had been heard and second, I had been gifted with Whale Medicine.
The lesson here is: don’t ever pay any attention to what New Agers, channellers, UFO enthusiasts and the like tell you about what place is “powerful” and what isn’t. Always pay close attention to the old stories and myths of the original, indigenous people of any given area since they know that landmass better than anyone else because of their history in the area. I mean: First Nations tribes in the Americas, Aboriginals in Australia, Dravidian/Tamil Indians in India, the Ainu in Japan, Celts in Ireland and the old Druidic orders in Great Britain etc. There are still many magical places left on Earth, but you have to look for them and no stupid New Age huckster will ever tell you where they are. Never  forget that the natural world has all the answers we need. We just need to train ourselves to ask the right questions and understand that language better.

Some Mysticism in Some Films

The National Library and Archives of Quebec

The National Library and Archives of Quebec

One of the few benefits of living in Quebec is that it is easily the most leftist place in North America with strong socialist leanings. Yeah, our taxes are high and we have bad roads with winter potholes which will do a number on your car maintenance bills. However that also means extremely affordable university education, fantastic community services and wonderful public libraries with excellent collections in many languages with speedy inter-library loans.

Inside the library

Inside the library

It’s a very rare public library that can say it carries the entire catalogue of the Criterion Collection of DVDs. For those of you who aren’t film buffs, the Criterion Collection produces the most amazing versions of all those art house films you’ve read or heard about but never had the chance to watch. Those films and directors which are often quoted by more mainstream movie directors or those covered in basic courses in film studies and communication, like Luchino Visconti, Akira Kurosawa, Ken Loach, Alex Cox and countless others. The Criterion DVDs also contain those extras like rare documentaries on the making of, interviews with surviving actors or directors.

Boss. The mystical poet of cinema, Andrei Tarkovsky. If Rumi had been a filmmaker, the closest approximation would have been Tarkovsky. His gravestone in Paris reads,"To the man who saw the Angel."

Boss. The mystical poet of cinema, Andrei Tarkovsky. If Rumi had been a filmmaker, the closest approximation would have been Tarkovsky. His gravestone in Paris reads,”To the man who saw the Angel.”

You gain a special insight and understanding about the art form and a basic free education in film studies (Film was always considered an art form by the Europeans and more of a business by the Americans, with few exceptions which is why the “look” and message is so different.). Once you watch the masters at work, you begin to have the ability to discern when fifth-rate Hollywood directors try oh-so-hard to copy them or insert scenes in their films which have been “inspired” by the real maestros (and usually fall flat on their faces).

Scarlett O'Hara in Victor Fleming's classic "Gone With the Wind"

...and Steven Spielberg's rip-off version at the end of the film "War Horse"

…and Steven Spielberg’s rip-off version at the end of the film “War Horse”

One thing the Americans could never do was portray spiritual and serious mystical ideas on film effectively. I don’t know why, maybe the puritanical religious history has something to do with it or the lack of exposure or understanding of religious traditions outside of the strictly Protestant/Catholic framework until fairly recently. When they do, it either comes across as New Age-y like “What Dreams May Come” or like “City of Angels” (an excretable version of the original German masterpiece “Wings of Desire”) or it has to be based on biblical or religious dogma like the more recent “Noah”. Mysticism, because it is so porous and open-ended, does not lend itself well to the medium of film.

Russell Crowe as Noah (you're kidding me, right?)

Russell Crowe as Noah (you’re kidding me, right?)

When it’s done in the hands of directors, who themselves may have the best credentials technically but have low spiritual insight or maturity, the films usually fall flat like in the case of Martin Scorsese‘s “Kundun” (which is why I think he keeps repeating the same themes and keeps making the same gangster film all the time – he doesn’t have very much range IMHO).

Kundun (1997) a film about the Dalai Lama. Movie was nothing to write home about.

Kundun (1997) a film about the Dalai Lama. Movie was nothing to write home about.

When it’s done right, the results are beyond fabulous and keep you running back for more.
The films can haunt you for days and more often than not, raises more questions, which then forces you to re-watch the film with these questions in mind – and the process keeps repeating itself from there. Andrei Tarkovsky’s entire body of work and especially “Andrei Rublev” (read the user reviews at the bottom), Wim Wender’s “Paris, Texas”, Louis Malle’s “My Dinner with Andre” or Krzysztof Kieslowski’s Decalogue, easily come to mind here.

Recently I stumbled on the works of British filmmakers Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger aka “The Archers”. There has already been volumes written on them to say nothing of the countless PhD dissertations on their work, but what I would like to focus on is the almost-lyrical mysticism which seems to pervade their films, most notably in “The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp”, “I Know Where I’m Going”, “A Matter of Life and Death”, “Black Narcissus” and “The Red Shoes”.

The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp (1943)

Roger Livesey and Deborah Kerr at the beginning of General Wynne-Candy's career

Roger Livesey and Deborah Kerr at the beginning of General Wynne-Candy’s career

This is a film about missed chances, realizing the truth of the matter a little too late and looking back on life. For anyone who has had to live with regret and then had to make the best of it, the film will ring true especially for you. The film follows Major General Clive Wynne-Candy (Roger Livesey’s performance of a lifetime) from 1902 until 1942 and watches the changes in culture played out in the theatre of war. Particularly from when war was once fought by gentlemen to when war became an outlet for brutes.

Probably one of the best close-up shots of an actor ever.

Probably one of the best-looking close-up shots of an actor, ever. A gentleman, moments before his fight.

Powell and Pressburger took the piss out of war and the British idea of “empire building” and even had Winston Churchill and the British War office on their backs for making this film, particularly for showing up the humanity of a German highborn soldier. The war propagandists of the time just couldn’t take it because the film refused to take sides. This was a film which was not supposed to be made but 70 years later has finally been restored to its original form and is now becoming recognized as the masterpiece it was. An undercurrent theme of lost love also runs throughout the film. English actress Deborah Kerr plays 3 characters in this film, a different incarnation of Clive Wynne-Candy’s Twin Soul at different stages in his life.

I Know Where I’m Going (1945)

Looking out towards Kiloran from Mull.

Looking out towards Kiloran from Mull.

A tale about Destiny, Fate and Love (and I capitalized those words on purpose here). Wendy Hiller plays Joan Webster, an ambitious young lady who is engaged to be married off to the much older but very wealthy industrialist Sir Robert Bellinger. The wedding is to take place on the remote Scottish island of Kiloran in the Western Hebrides and the only way to get there is to catch a boat from the island of Mull. Setback after setback hits Joan as a sudden storm and windy conditions prevent her from leaving Mull and Joan meets a dashing naval officer named Torquil MacNeil (again, Roger Livesey at his most handsome I find) who kindly offers her to stay at his friend’s home.

Captain MacNeil doesn't have eyes for anyone else but for Joan.

Captain MacNeil doesn’t have eyes for anyone else but for Joan.

The storm lasts a few days and with each passing day Joan and Torquil’s unsaid feelings for each other become deeper and more apparent. Joan, fearing that she is going to lose everything she has worked so hard for in her life if she stays any longer, tries to flee but Mother Nature, the Fates (and especially Captain MacNeil) have other ideas. Set against the harsh beauty of Northern Scotland, this film has a solid cult following and hundreds of fans of the film have made the trek to the filming locations over the years. No one can quite explain WHY the film seems to resonate with so many people, but I personally think that the mysticism of the story, the atmospheric Scottish landscape and excellent acting all have something to do with the films longstanding appeal.

A Matter of Life and Death (1946)

a_matter_of_life_and_death

Here, Powell and Pressburger decide to tackle Death, Life after Death and the Power of Love. David Niven plays Peter Carter a pilot who jumps out of his plane and doesn’t die. Death has been robbed and a trial has been set and Carter has to argue for his life before the powers that be. Problem is, Carter has fallen in love during his “stolen hours” which has complicated matters somewhat.

powell_pressburger_a_matter_of_life_and_death_gallery_2

Roger Livesey (who many speculate was an alter-ego of Michael Powell’s) is Dr. Reeves, who looks after Carter and ends up having to defend him against historical persons in a heavenly court of law. Really, at its heart, it is about the redemptive power of love on Earth and speculates wildly on life after death, the nature of Time and why we are really here. It’s worth watching just for the “Stairway to Heaven” sequence alone and the laughable “English Culture vs. American Culture” trail. Be warned, stereotypes abound.

Black Narcissus (1947)

How does one balance out sexuality with spirituality? More often than not, many spiritual teachings talk about squashing those feelings and sentiments – usually with disastrous results and “Black Narcissus” shows up how these instincts can sometimes go wrong. Very wrong. Based on story by Rumer Godden, the film is set at a convent high in the Himalayas where the wind never stops blowing. The convent itself used to be a bordello but has since been converted. The exotic, sensual but isolated surroundings eventually get to the nuns.

Sister Ruth -Yikes!

Sister Ruth -Yikes!

Having a mentally unbalanced, but sexually repressed nun in the form of Sister Ruth (Kathleen Byron) and a walking stud-muffin like Mr. Dean (David Farrar) doesn’t help matters in the least. The entire film was shot on a soundstage in England, very far from India yet you’re taken in completely. The fight between the “good” nun and the “bad” nun will leave you on the edge of your nerves.

The Red Shoes (1948)

How does the artist answer his or her true calling, remain faithful to it in face of outside pressures particularly, Love? Can two great passions, such as love and the artistic impulse truly occupy the same space? Loosely based on the Hans Christian Anderson fairy tale, it follows the rise of a ballerina Vicky Page (real-life ballerina Moira Shearer) from relative obscurity to the heights of artistic success, all under the watchful eye of an artistic Svengali ballet impresario Boris Lermontov. Moira falls in love with a composer and that places her role as prima ballerina within the touring company at odds with Lermontov who has even bigger plans for her. Upon telling him of her wishes to follow her heart, Lermontov declares, “A dancer who relies upon the doubtful comforts of human love will never be a great dancer. Never.”

I'm positive Darren Aronofsky copied a lot of ideas from "The Red Shoes" and used them in "Black Swan"

I’m positive Darren Aronofsky copied a lot of ideas from “The Red Shoes” and used them in “Black Swan”

The highlight of this film is the actual ballet sequence which runs for 15 minutes during the middle of the film and is probably the most surreal, beautiful piece of film-making ever committed to celluloid. A young woman sees a pair of red shoes in a shop window, which are offered to her by the demonic Shoemaker. She puts them on and begins to dance with her beau. They go to a carnival, where she seems to forget about the beau as she dances with every man she comes across. She attempts to return home to her mother, but the red shoes, controlled by the Shoemaker, keeps her dancing. She falls into a netherworld, where she dances with a piece of newspaper which turns briefly into her beau. She is then beset by grotesque creatures, including the Shoemaker, who converge upon her. They abruptly disappear, leaving her alone. No matter where she flees, the shoes refuse to stop dancing. Near death from exhaustion, clothed in rags, she finds herself in front of a church where a funeral is in progress. The priest offers to help her. She motions to him to remove the shoes, and as he does so, she dies. He carries her into the church, and the Shoemaker retrieves the shoes, to be offered to his next victim. (In the case of the fairy tale, the red shoes can be read as any earthly enticement).

If you love watching serious films as much as I do, do yourself a favour and find these movies. They just don’t make them like this anymore, that’s for sure.

The Law of Exchange

“Tell yourself that all human beings are your brothers and sisters, and if you learn to accept them, with their weaknesses, their shortcomings and the difficulties they create for you, you will attract the benevolence and support of heavenly beings.  Never be like those people who turn away from others on the pretext that they are inferior.  Such ignorant people do not know that when they do this they are transgressing the law of exchange and that, as a consequence, the divine world will refuse to make exchanges with them.  It is up to each one of us to find out how to establish true contact with others.  May scientists be happy to give their knowledge and the wise to give their light, and may those who receive them be delighted to have been taught and enlightened.  May the strong be happy to support the weak and the rich to help the poor, and may the weak and the poor be grateful to feel they have been helped.  All those who refuse to allow their wealth to circulate, in whatever sphere, are like stagnant water. They will never discover the meaning of life, for life can only be found in free circulation and exchanges. Just because people are different from you, it doesn’t mean you have the right to mistreat them or ignore them. You will do better to try to understand them.  In this way you will be establishing a good habit, which will then protect you from many dangers. You meet people who think they are so important.  They think they don’t have to make any effort for little ants. But maybe one day they will find themselves, like in fairy stories, having to sort thousands of grains of wheat, barley or rice in a few hours, and then they will be very pleased when the ‘ants’ come to their aid. Or else they will be bound tightly hand and foot, and a little mouse will start gnawing at the rope to set them free.

Lucy noticing the mice gnawing away the ropes around Aslan at the Stone Table in an animated version of "The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe"

Lucy noticing the mice gnawing away the ropes around Aslan at the Stone Table in an animated version of “The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe”

You will say, ‘But those are fables, fairy stories for children!’ If you like… The mice and the ants represent those people you mix with that you tend to look down on.  But who knows?  Perhaps those people you were able to show some respect, because they deserved it, will one day come to your rescue. There are invisible beings who can come down to help us, and if you want them to pay you a visit and to stay, you must prepare the right conditions in yourself.  Yes, never forget that divine beings are always ready to visit you and that they seek a place to dwell in your heart, soul and spirit, so they may work and bring you their riches.  It is only people’s negligence and lack of appreciation for their presence and help that keeps these entities away. They are fully aware that human beings are imperfect, weak and silly, and yet they excuse them and do not let this stop them. On the contrary, they say: ‘Oh, what a state the poor things are in, they need help!’ But if they see that people do not appreciate what they bring, they leave. Not because they need to be respected or thanked, no, but because they know that ingratitude prevents people from profiting from the blessings they are offered.

– Omraam Mikhael Aivanhov

I am, in small degrees , a supernaturalist.

That probably doesn’t jive with a lot of people (and that’s cool) but I do firmly believe that all that we can see, hear, touch, smell and taste is not all that there is (Is it just me but isn’t it strange that 4 of our 5 senses are centered around the head? Are there others in other parts of the body and they are just dormant?).

Microbacteria in your tummy

Mycobacteria in your tummy

There’s much more, we just haven’t been able to quantify or record these things mostly because the instruments, physics and mathematics just aren’t there yet. It’s all relative. I mean if you were to go up to a feudal serf in medieval France and show him a picture of a what a real microbe or virus looks like and explain to him that it is living underneath his fingernails or on his skin when he doesn’t take a bath after six months, he’d probably run screaming off to the local church official and have you burned alive. That microbe may not have been something which anyone could see, quantify or touch back then, but it doesn’t change that it was still there. Thankfully, germ theory changed a lot of things. That’s what I mean by relativity.

No. Just no.

No. Just no.

Likewise, I do think, like what Aivanhov suggests, there are lifeforms which populate this universe way beyond us. Mostly good, some bad but because I think evil has its limitations, the more benevolent forces are far more advanced in form and expression. I’m not talking about Ascended Masters bullshit and all the crap many New Agers sprout. I don’t think they are in a form we can even relate to except perhaps in flashes of insight, sudden intuition and those all-too-rare moments of pure transcendence or grace. However, if the quote is true and they are indeed ready to help us, it also means we have to hold up our end of the law of exchange as well.

I think what is stopping so many people to practice that law of exchange is 1) Fear, fear that if they give anything away, they will never have anything to show for it  and 2) Greed. We are living in a world culture which is largely predicated on class-warfare and with the “Haves” displaying a horrific culture of entitlement. Too many people thinking that if they display any form of kindness, decency, gentleness or compassion, there will be less of it to go around to them.

6a00d8345275cf69e2014e87df8ad5970d

This culture of entitlement has many, many expressions. From an impossible diva like Jennifer Lopez who has it written into contracts with the hired help that they are not to make eye-contact with her at any time to Generation Y college grads who get upset that they may have to work on a project which requires a longer attention span, of say a mouse.

Moll girls at play. From Vice.com

Moll girls at play. From Vice.com

I recently read about the phenomena of the “moll girls” in Australia over at Vice. It’s mostly girls, usually in their early 20s, mostly from upper middle class to upper class backgrounds acting like thuggish boys. I mean binge drinking, fighting with each other physically, even fighting with boys as a gang, sleeping around randomly as a form of “empowerment” usually at clubs and bars. Generally acting very boorish and vulgar and throwing a fit at even the hint they may not get what (or who)  they want in the next 10 seconds.

Whenever I watch people who give off that “I’m Entitled to do Anything I Want” vibe, I always detect fierce anger underneath…as well as deep hurt. Somehow, somewhere along the line, something damaged them. I’m not justifying that behaviour but I do think it’s a scar that they carry around and it manifests in other ways

A typical group of socialites as featured in New York Social Diary.

When I used to work at non-profits, many of the charity fundraising events were chaired by local socialites and I have to say, they are easily the rudest, bitchiest, most self-absorbed and neurotic women I’ve ever come across. Many of their husbands were captains of industry so they were, in short, bored, flaky trophy wives. They used to treat us at the non-profits like we were their domestic help and would often get away with it unless you said something and put them in their place. I don’t think many of them were happily married or for that matter were even in love with their husbands (most of their husbands were really old and not particularly attractive…). I think because in some ways, they were disempowered in some areas of their lives, they tried to exert extra power in other areas to compensate.

The wedding of Jackie Kennedy to Aristotle Onassis. The two Kennedy kids, Caroline and JKF Jr. don’t look very happy, do they?

It was rumored that Jackie Kennedy, when she married Aristotle Onassis, one of the stipulations  was that she was required to have sex with him 3 times a day at anytime he wanted and she would have an expense account which allowed her to spend $10 000 – $15 000 a day at high-end New York department stores on anything she wanted. Do the math.

Thanks but no thanks, I’d rather be happy, unhindered, minding my own business and free to see, experience and receive the magic this world and life has to offer.

Working with Earth Forces

From where I stand
You are home free
The planets align so rare
There’s promise in the air
And I’m guiding you

You have to believe we are magic
Nothin’ can stand in our way
You have to believe we are magic
Don’t let your aim ever stray
And if all your hopes survive
Your destiny will arrive
I’ll bring all your dreams alive
For you

Some people are attributing the recent rash of earthquakes to the astrological climate of late. While I wouldn’t dismiss it entirely, I mean the Earth is a planet which is part of a greater system of planets and nothing ever stays the same after all, I do find Ben Davidson who runs  Suspicious0bservers has probably the best, bar-none, daily earth changes report which are worth keeping a steady eye on.
The notorious Ring of Fire

The notorious Ring of Fire

Earthquakes are freaky.
Indeed they can be terrifying events, and when they strike particularly vulnerable areas in parts of the world which have shoddy or sketchy building construction codes, the human costs can be unnecessarily tragic. I am with Danish writer Isak Dinesen on this one. There’s a passage in “Out of Africa” where she writes experiencing a powerful earthquake for the first time in Kenya and her reaction was one of wonderment because it made her realize the power or Creation and how small we all are. Not smallness in the sense that we are weak and useless. Rather, we may be small but we are part of a larger system at work and that system is powerful and marvellous and terrifying all at the same time.
We are not separate from all this.

We are not separate from all this.

It’s a reminder that we are not above Nature (despite what asshole businessmen, marketers, right-wing pundits  and politicians want you to believe and accept) but rather, Nature is above us and indeed, we are a part of it. I pretty much had the same reaction when I felt earthquakes for the first time while living in Turkey or even the smaller ones which hit Montreal from time to time (in fact, the whole St.Lawrence River basin, like California and Istanbul are long overdue for a “Big One”).

One of the things I was taught from my first spiritual teacher is that events like earthquakes and volcanoes release huge amounts of energy which has been building up underneath; the pressure gets too much and out it goes. It’s only to be expected. Anyone who has ever experienced a full bladder in an emergency situation can easily understand. However, she also added, that they release huge amounts of psychic energy as well and pointed out that it is not a coincidence that places which are seismically active, places like Iceland, California, Hawaii, Java, the “vibes” at these places causes them to be  spiritual hotspots and the people who live there seem to have a leaning towards high-frequency thought and lifestyles.

(Of course there are exceptions to every rule. I mean look at Japan and their dolphin and whale slaughter as well as their borderline-socially acceptable norms on child pornography. It’s just sick. Thankfully the Aussies have recently won a case against the Japanese for preventing them from catching whales for “scientific purposes” in Antarctica so at least that’s something…)
One of my Native American teachers taught me that the Spirit World (and that includes Mother Earth, Father Sky, Grandmother Moon etc.) are always willing to work with us but They will only meet us halfway. It is up to us to also do the work and not expect it all to come to us effortlessly. This is where things like meditation, prayer and doing ceremony (which is another form of prayer and meditation if you ask me) come into play.

It could be as simple as making a small hole into the ground and dropping some tobacco into it and genuinely saying to the Earth “Thank you for letting me live on you. Thank you for giving me food. Thank you for giving me life”. You’d be surprised but an attitude of gratitude goes a long way. It not only may protect you but it also begins to transform you in a good way.

It could be lighting a few candles and working with lesser-known angels like Barachiel, Jophiel and Sandalphon by naming them and addressing them directly if that is what you are into. It could be leaving some food out on your porch at night if you have raccoons in your neighborhood and working with and inviting raccoon medicine and raccoon teachings into your life.

Work with these natural forces as opposed to fearing them and you might be surprised at what they may bring back to you.
